This Inmate in TX Just Took Over 40% of the Vote Against Obama… in W. Virginia’s Primary

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Just how unpopular is President Barack Obama in some parts of the country? Enough that a man in prison in Texas got 4 out of 10 votes in West Virginia’s Democratic presidential primary.

The inmate, Keith Judd, is serving time at the Beaumont Federal Correctional Institution in Texas for making threats at the University of New Mexico in 1999. Obama received 59 percent of the vote to Judd’s 41 percent.

For some West Virginia Democrats, simply running against Obama is enough to get Judd votes.

“I voted against Obama,” said Ronnie Brown, a 43-year-old electrician from Cross Lanes who called himself a conservative Democrat. “I don’t like him. He didn‘t carry the state before and I’m not going to let him carry it again.”

When asked which presidential candidate he voted for, Brown said, “That guy out of Texas.”

Judd was able to get on the state ballot by paying a $2,500 fee and filing a form known as a notarized certification of announcement, said Jake Glance, a spokesman for the Secretary of State’s office.

Attracting at least 15 percent of the vote would normally qualify a candidate for a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. But state Democratic Party Executive Director Derek Scarbro said no one has filed to be a delegate for Judd. The state party also believes that Judd has failed to file paperwork required of presidential candidates, but officials continue to research the matter, Scarbro said.

Voters in other conservative states showed their displeasure with Obama in Democratic primaries last March.

In Oklahoma, anti-abortion protestor Randall Terry got 18 percent of the primary vote. A lawyer from Tennessee, John Wolfe, pulled nearly 18,000 votes in the Louisiana primary. In Alabama, 18 percent of Democratic voters chose “uncommitted” in the primary rather than vote for Obama.

Obama‘s energy policies and the Environmental Protection Agency’s handling of mining-related permits have incurred the wrath of West Virginia’s coal industry. With the state the nation’s second-biggest producer of this fossil fuel, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and Sen. Joe Manchin -both Democrats have championed the industry – have declined to say whether they will support Obama in November.

Hillary Rodham Clinton beat Obama handily in the state’s 2008 primary, and he lost the state to Republican John McCain in the general election. The latest state-by-state Gallup poll, released in January, found Obama with a 32.7 percent approval rating in West Virginia. The president had a lower approval rating only in Utah, Idaho, Oklahoma and Wyoming.

“Keith Judd’s performance is embarrassing for Obama and our great state,” outgoing West Virginia GOP Chairman Mike Stuart said.

Presumed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney won West Virginia’s GOP primary Tuesday with more than 69 percent of the vote, with 93 percent of precincts reporting. Rick Santorum followed with 12 percent, while Ron Paul had 11 percent.

Brown, the Cross Lanes electrician, went to the polls Tuesday with his 22-year-old daughter, Emily. She planned to vote for Judd too until she found out where Judd has been living.

“I‘m not voting for somebody who’s in prison,” she said.

She was certain about one thing: “I just want to vote against Barack Obama.”

      We don’t even know who or what Obama is. No birth certificate, illegal name change from Batty Soetoro, fake Selective Service registration, fake Social Security number. At least the KNOW who that convict is.

      The way Obadman has lied, misled, swindled, and degraded this country is tantamount to a felony, so he and Judd are about even. No actually Judd ism better. At least he is paying for his violation(s). Obadman keeps making new ones every day without the decency, backbone, guts, or moral decency to admit to any of it. He is nothing but an egotistical, narcissistic, ‘entitled’ COWARD!

      I think people in prison cannot vote, but they can run for president. After all everyone should get a second

      This guy is serving federal time in Texas for making threats at the University of New Mexico? In New Mexico..as I understand..a guy will serve from two to five years for killing his wife..a woman will serve twelve years for killing her husband..this is thirteen years for this guy..Wowzers..this guy might need a little media attention..

In 1999 Judd was convicted of two counts of “mailing a threatening communication with intent to extort money or something of value”[14] and sentenced to 210 months in federal prison. The convictions stemmed from an incident in which he made threats at the University of New Mexico.[3] He has appealed his conviction no less than 36 times, but each appeal has been dismissed for various reasons…so he threatened extortion and got 17.5 years..so look at what our leaders have done in the bailouts with our tax dollars..and if that means that they take away ours and future generations money..is that extortion? Or is that outright grand theft?..I have heard of people spending lots of time for actual deceptive practices with other peoples money like Berney Madoff was it? I guess some people can get away with grand theft..and some will spend their entire lives in prison for just the threat of the extortion attempt..what’s the old saying? What is the difference between rape and consensual sex.? Salesmanship..

      Here in West Virginia, there is a lot of the population that is forced by union control to vote a certain way, else you could lose your job and be black listed and not find anymore work with the unions that control the valley. We are already almost there to communism, the rest of you are just catching up to us.

      Obama only getting the small percent he did, even though the unions here threaten the population is actually remarkable. Union votes here in this state can reach 70 to 80% easily without any non-union votes at all.
      After all the main headquarters of the ACLU is right next to our golden domed capitol building in this state.

    Not really sure what else this article says — I couldn’t get past what the guy is in jail for: for making threats! That’s it; making threats?! OMG! The entire NBPP, OWS, NoI, etc. should be under the jail for the threats they’ve been making. Something is way out of whack here.

    Wait a minute, I read that this Texan was locked up for threating someone. Really, then why is Shaaabazzz still free? Why is ole Al Sharpton still free?
    I don’t think that the story is a convict Texan gave him a good run, I think the story is that the Texan was imprisoned for making threats against someone or something. How does that jibe with what we are seeing from our Dept. Justice today.

    If there was ever an enemy to West Virginia as a people and state in the dictionary would be a picture of Barack Obama. Killing coal is killing West Virginia and Obama has sworn to do that.       There was a time when Democrats were patriots. I think West Virginians are real Democrats, not communists posing as Democrats. I still don’t agree with them on most issues, but they are not the marxsits that want to “fundamentally change” America.

    At least with the inmate, he‘s not pretending to be something and someone he’s not just to get elected and revert to further destroying the country and its economy. I bet he does less “misleading” and downright lying than Obama also – and keeps his promises better. He is probably less divisive too.
