‘This Is Nuts’: Beck Looks Back on Trilogy of Restoring Honor, Restoring Courage and Restoring Love in Moving Interview

Glenn Beck sat down for an exclusive interview today to discuss the long process that has led up to his massive, three part series of events – namely, “Restoring Honor,“ ”Restoring Courage” and this Saturday’s “Restoring Love.” Beck recounted story upon story in the interview, touching on the logistical failures of “Restoring Honor” with a combination of humor and solemnity.

“This will work to the good and the benefit, I don’t know how, but this is in us, leave it alone,“ Beck said as he described soothing his staff after panicked reactions to the fact that ”Restoring Honor” inadvertently fell on the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. As it turned out, it did, because the event drew the attention of Alveda King, no less an eminence than the niece of Martin Luther King.

Beck’s segment hearkening back to his “Restoring Courage” tour in Israel was more poignant, as Beck described the process of dealing with negative press – an act that was especially painful, given that he himself had doubts about whether the tour was a smart idea. In fact, Beck described explaining those doubts to one particular early detractor from the spiritual community, who had tried to talk him out of it. To the other man’s surprise, Beck agreed with him.

“This is nuts and I have no real desire to do it,” Beck quotes himself saying. “Don’t talk to me, talk to [God.]”

And finally, in the “Restoring Love” focused section of the interview, Beck explains that his inspiration for the event is former South African leader Nelson Mandela, one of the few leaders who, in Beck’s estimation, took the high road in trying to save his country.

“You know, Nelson Mandela could have just ripped this country apart. Had he wanted to, it could have been a blood bath. People would have followed him. And instead, he chose love,” Beck said.

To that end, Beck had originally planned to host the event in South Africa. However, events conspired to put it in Dallas. That’s not to say the event has been a failure thus far – the biggest complaint among people who attend the event is apparently that the service organizations involved don’t have enough for their tens of thousands of volunteers to do.

Beck also announced his plans to replace the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) with the first ever FreePAC at Restoring Love. “CPAC, I think is an old dinosaur,” Beck said, explaining that the organizers of the event might have been less than comfortable with his barn-burning performance in 2010, because he was critical of both parties.

Yet even if CPAC’s response was muted, Beck’s presence has struck a chord on an international basis. Through a series of anecdotes, Beck explained that he has been approached by everyone from former residents of the Soviet Union to members of the British Parliament about spreading his message. However, Beck says, spreading his message doesn’t work that way.

“It has to be from the grassroots. It has to be from the people,” he says.

Certainly, “the people” will be showing up at Beck’s event. Tickets for “Restoring Love” are still available here. The event will be broadcast exclusively on TheBlaze/GBTV, this Saturday July 28th.

    Haven’t you heard that you can only love Jesus as much as you love your worst enemy? (as He commanded us to do)
    Also 1 John 4:20-21 ESV If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.

    I’ll be the first to agree the BEHAVIOR is to be hated, but just as with your children, you can love them without effort while hating their behavior.

    This is a mistake I make often myself…saying things like “I can’t STAND him/her,” (or worse), yet
    under it, I realize the PERSON is still loveable to me, their concept of decency/truth/reality
    is another story..

    So glad to have read this today. I‘m going to try to remember each time I get annoyed by someone’s statements/actions to silently ask God to BLESS them and let the person HE’s designed them to become emerge.

    God can, but I cannot– love people who are destroying this country. I cannot love people who are killing babies and old people and denying vetrans adeaquate medical care and the things they need to stay safer in time of war. I cannot love those who are disrespecting the police and killing the down and out vagrants living on streets because they are in spiritual poverty as well as financial poverty. I cannot love people who lie, cheat, steal and kill and take the earnings of those who have sacrificed. These are my enemies. They have no love. I cannot love those who play games and vote within a given race because they are of either dark or light skin color. I do not love them, nor would I do them harm unless my life was in danger, but I will not hesitate to do what I have to do if it becomes necessary. I owe them nothing. But they owe God and this country something. They owe all of us to stay out of our faces and spaces. They know what it is they owe.

    What we need is leadership that is respectful of God, the family and this country and her Constitution in every town to encourage others. Who is worthy?

    It is hard for me to “restore love” right now for I am at war with these people who are destroying my country. They have no love in them. They cannot restore what they do not have. They do not have God so they have no love. We already love one another who are capable of giving and receiving love in a Godly manner. Those who do not have God must not want Him or they would seek Him. These must be meant to go as tares in the wheat. I am at war with these. I have no feelings except to allow them to know I will not stand with them nor expect anything from them and they better give me my space. That way, there will be peace of some sort between those and me. I will not waste my time for it is not my gift to heal those who do not want healing, nor do I believe will God. They will have to make that decision. Glen is right in that Love does need to be retored. Good luck finding some of that love for the only L word they are interested in is the LUST word. That will not suffice for the type of Love God intends for people to have.

    I’ll be there and looking forward to it! Thank you Glenn for your foresight and your optimism in those of us that still love our country.

    God has taught us that loving him first is the ONLY thing that supersedes loving one another and this event will help drive that concept home.
