‘This Is the Divider We All Feared’: Beck Slams Obama Camp for Perpetuating Debunked Lie About Romney

On CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, Candy Crowley had some tough questions for Obama campaign advisor and former White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs regarding a recent attack ad targeting GOP nominee Mitt Romney for outsourcing.

Crowley ran the ad, noting that the Washington Post even rated it false (with “four Pinocchios”). She challenged Gibbs to give his take on why this now debunked lie is still being used against Romney. For reference, below is their exchange, courtesy of Mediaite:

On Monday, Glenn Beck took to his radio show to respond to the Obama camp, saying that the president is “not the uniter we were promised,“ but rather ”the divider we feared” and that facts do not matter to his campaign.

“If you say a lie loud enough and for long enough people will [grow to] believe it,” Beck said plainly. ”Most Americans don’t want to believe that their president is a liar” he added, “or a Marxist, so they will avoid those things at all costs.”

Beck maintained that Americans tend to “see ourselves in others,” meaning that we believe the best in people, especially our Commander-in-Chief.

    For the most part the American people have made a firm decision whether they support conservative or liberal principles. The key word here is principles. For far too long the RINO’s have COMPROMISED on conservative principles.
    Obama’s “do nothing” Congress is in reality one that is finally standing up and saying WE WILL NOT COMPROMISE OUR PRINCIPLES.

      READ THIS GREAT ARTICLE by LARRY KUDLOW and his last paragraph is especially poignant and the most reasonable I’ve read so far about GOV. ROMNEY:

      ‘Basically, Romney is promising a return to free-market, supply-side policies on taxes, trade, regulation, and spending. Hopefully he will embrace a sound and stable dollar as well.       Patty…I too want to believe Romney is our man…and I would vote for him loooonnnggg before obama…( I would ever vote for obama)…I DO NOT hold my breathe…hoping he’s another Reagan…tooooo much progressive liberalism in his past…pro socialized medicine…pro homosexual marriage…pro abortion….just to name a few…and I would be more skeptical if these items were in his DISTANT past…but alas they are not…most of them he “changed” his mind on when he started running for president as a conservative a few short years ago…when I was a young adult I felt differently then I do know…but on killing babies…NEVER…just to name an example…so you tell me who is the wolf and who is the sheep.

      I’d rather take a chance on, and fight for Romney, and expect he will be the best President. He may fail, but we’re here to remind him with our emails when he might go wrong. I’d rather give him a rip-roaring chance to do the right thing, because I‘m positive he’s a decent person and will be a good President.

      Patty, Natl Review, a Fox / establishment magazine. Stop listening to the establishment reporters, they are lying to you. You have to think in real terms here. Romney is not going to defeat Obama. By the time the general election gets here, I guarantee, Obama will have made it look like there is progress, and will villify Romney because of his wealth (the richest candidate to ever run for POTUS), so Democrats will vote for Obama over Romney. Romney will only get approximately 40% of the Independent vote, he will not get the youth vote (since the GOP basically told them they did not want them in the party) Paul supporters will nto vote for him because of the election fraud the GOP did against them, that leaves the Republicans, and he has not secured 100% of them. There are going to be lots of votes cast for Johnson, and write ins for Paul. It is mathematically impossible for Romney to win. I cannot believe it is so hard for all of you to see these truths. Stop watching TV.

      @GODLOVINMOM I agree. I too would vote for Romney well before our current president. However, I believe Romey knows most Americans feel that way and he will not support the necessary changes to our government that would set it straight according to what our founders and many here on this site believe our government should be. I fear for the future of our republic. Look what has happened to the new crop of tea party elected reps we helped put in office in ‘10. A great many of them have been assimlilated into the government / party machine.

I’m sorry to be the one to inform you, but when countries elect leaders in a democracy, they vote in leaders the population supports, not leaders the US or you would like to have in office. It has something to do with self governance, government by and for the people of that country. Did you expect them to elect a Christian?

      I think you only like Democracy when a country votes in people of your religion and who are friends with the US. Otherwise you’d like the US to overthrow democratically elected leader and install their own leader, as we did with the Shah of Iran and tried to do with the Bay of Pigs.

      Reagan overspent by around $2T in his eight years. Since Governor Romney is “almost” as conservative does that mean he will only overspend by $3.5T to $5T, adjusted for inflation, if we give him a shot? That range of overspending would be better than what Obama will do with a second term to be sure, but can’t we do better than that? We’ll go broke with Romney, just a little more slowly than with Obama.

      As far as Gov. Romney being underrated, I have to agree. I think he is much, much, much worse than most give him credit for. If he’s the best arm we have in the bullpen, it’s lights out. Your screen name is an adaptation of one of the greatest patriots that the Commonwealth of Virginia has ever produced. A true patriot; willing to die rather than submit to tyranny. He would tell you, “Look elsewhere, Romney is not the droid you are looking for”. Peace and may the force be with you.

      My son said it best. He decided he was more libertarian/Conservative. So I asked if that meant he was going to vote for Ron Paul? He said no, he’s more interested in Gary Johnson. So, I said, oh, does that mean you’re voting for him?
      He said, “Hell no, I like him but there‘s no way he’ll win, so I’m voting for Mitt Romney.”

      So I told him, it was ok with me if he wants to be Libertarian, because I’ve considered it my self, but in NO WAY would I throw away a vote that might help obama win.

      I live not too far from the stadium. I’ve been to a couple of events there and even paid the $25 for the tour. It’s ginormous!! I took a relative from Australia to it, and he‘s been to to Manchester United’s stadium in England – which he claims is huge – and all he kept saying was “Bloddy Hell!”

      As far as JZS is concerned, even a blind squirrell finds a nut once in a while. I disagree with a lot of his ideas, but I give credit where credit is due.

      I for one am very optimistic. Think about it…last election Romney was the most conservative canidate towards the end, this time he was the most liberal. Our nation is waking up and trending in the right direction. Obama woke this nation up. And do you really think Romney will VETO conservative legislation put on his desk. We need to focus on congress and get REAL conservatives in. THe president really has very little power but the veto pen and appointments. Given the right congress, the president can be steered in the right direction. Case in point, Bush was like Romney not really a conservative, did great in the first few years with a conservative congress; congress went liberal and so did the president. Then the whole thing went over the cliff. Congress steers most things. Focus there. Because seriously Romney will not VETO legislation, but Obama will. ANd cheer up, things will get better.

      I just want to weigh in to echo Angrys’ sentiments and add a thing or two to his/her thoughts. I don’t know if BWS characterizes him/herself as a Libertarian or a libertarian. I’ve found that there can many times be a profound difference between the two.

      Most of the people in my local Tea Party group are libertarian but they are not Libertarian. They are independents, disaffected Republicans and a few are registered Libertarian. Most libertarians are not like BWS. We don’t berate the views of others but we invite the opportunity to engage in honest debate of ideas. And if our ideas don’t hold up under the weight of the debate we are willing to reconsider our positions.

      BWS is more of a Ron Paul ideologue, not really a libertarian. I, personally, agree with most of his positions because I admire Ron Paul but I abhor BWS’s tactics and his inability to engage others in any sort of productive dialogue. I’ve even tried, in the past, to get him to tone it down because, frankly, it hurts the cause of those of us that believe the same things but realize that, as Brother_Ed said, “you can get more flies with sugar than with vinegar”.

      Please don’t allow BWS to foul up our ability to engage in debate. There are other posters who I think of as kinsfolk, like Angry, West Coast Patriot, Mutiny, Ghost of Jefferson and others that I’m forgetting right now. Let’s keep a dialogue going. It’s healthy, it‘s productive and it’s fun.

      Ron Paul is a thorn in the Republican Partys’ side. He has been since he switched from the Libertarian Party to the Republican Party years ago. The Party establishment don‘t like him because he isn’t a reliable vote for anything they tell him to vote for.

      Unfortunately, as is true with many groups of people, the Party values conformance ahead of anything else. And that’s true of all Parties; I‘m not just bashing the R’s here. It’s why George Washington warned the Republic in his farewell address not to become entrenched in party loyalties. What a wise man he was!

      Ron Paul has more seniority than Boehner, Cantor and most of the House committee chairmen, etc. But will he get any kind of real leadership position? Nope. Because he won’t sell out his Constitutional fidelity for Party purposes. As an aside, that’s why I was surprised when his son, Rand, endorsed Governor Romney. Maybe Rand is a chip off the old block, but then again maybe not. Time will tell.

    I will not deny that the President lies, and that this particular lie is resurfacing just to put a shadow on Romney’s campaign, but for Beck to say that “if you say a lie loud enough and long enough people will grow to believe it” is the pot calling the kettle black (no pun intended). Beck made a career out of shouting lies loud and long, and then convincing people that it was in fact the truth.

      The agenda for Mr. Beck’s conference has been released. It’s mostly one book signing after another with a couple of interruptions so Mr. Beck can talk about himself. The actual Love part, which is community service participation, is only 3 hours long. The biggest gathering is to sit around listening to Christian music that may or may not be as good as what most of us hear on Sundays. And the whole program ends with watching Major League Baseball.
      The oddest thing is the celebration of entrepreneurship with free lemonade, which is not entrepreneurship because it is free.

      What a bore.

      This is all evidence of Mr. Beck’s decline.

      The Restoring Honor Rally on 8/28 was such an energizing experience. Sometimes we just need to feel we are not alone. It’s always nice to hang with like-minded people once in a while.

They committed felony election fraud by flipping Paul votes to Romney votes, they locked Paul supporters out of some conventions, they broke GOP rules to oust Paul delegates (violating federal law), they did not like the results in Nevada so they started a shadow party, etc…. Sorry but Romney will not defeat Obama without us. It is impossible. Republicans again have shown there tendancy to listen to the establishment on who to pick. It is going to be the GOP downfall. I am berated with names for pointing out the truth of the matter, but that is what I do, just like Ron Paul, tell the truth no matter how much the people do not want to hear it.

      There are more Paul supporters as delegates than anyone knows. Delegates are not bound, that is a perpetual lie by the party. Federal law trumps any state law saying so. It was meant to be this way in case a candidate had the most supporters as delegates and something comes out of the closet that people do not like, the delegates have the option of changing their mind at the ca=onvention. Why would anyone want it any different?
      Paul is the only candidate left in the running that can defeat Obama! The sooner everyone understands this, the sooner we can breathe a sigh of relief that Obama will not get four more.

      Geez Louise, WPC. Really. Do you know how incredibly idiotic and boring your post is? I have already put the TRUE numbers of the primaries out in a previous reply to you that show DEFINITVELY just how bad Dr. Paul got stomped. The nomination was not stolen. Dr Paul was beaten by EVERY SINGLE CANDIDATE–I’m talking Romney, Gingrich, Santorum. They ALL BEAT HIM! At least Dr. Paul had the dignity to close up shop at the end. I respect him for that. He will endorse Romney at the convention, same as his son, and will then get to work to oust obama.

      You and your cohorts will be left bleating on the sidelines and probably turning on Dr. Paul, calling him a traitor or progressive, or whatever.

      And the paulbot delegates you keep spouting about? If they even exist, they had better vote the way the people voted in the primaries or they should be held in contempt. Do you really want a candidate that stole the nomination like what would happen in that case? Oh, wait, you would since your ultimate objective is to get obama re-elected.

      @JSCIAI, I read on the Daily Paul blogs that RP will ask delegates to vote honoring past traditions on the first vote. Much of the Paul campaign now is mostly a grass routes effort on behalf of RP. There’s no reason for you to be such an ASS because WCP is holding out hope for a miracle because the GOP keeps getting worse each election cycle. (or continuing our march to global socialism). I do hope you‘re still around when Romney proves to be the douche we’re predicting so we can rub it in. If we’re right, maybe you will listen to us in 2016, provided they have wifi in FEMA camp. (The last part was a joke)

      And I do believe WCP is right about Romney losing to Obama. He has a better engergy policy, but a worse foreign policy, which will offset any gains we make drilling. Remember Independents weren‘t happy with Bush’s foreign policy, and the Dem’s are already putting it out there who is advising Romney in that regard. Easing regulations could help eventually, but it still will be cheaper to manufacture stuff in whatever pissant country we have free trade agreements with, so manufacturing will continue to leave the country. I don’t believe he will repeal Obama care. What’s left?… Oh yeah, tax breaks for the richest Americans and that’s going to go over like a fart in church.
