TEHRAN, Iran (The Blaze/AP) — Iran’s government on Saturday welcomed the U.S. Navy’s rescue of 13 Iranian fishermen held by pirates, calling it a positive humanitarian gesture.

U.S. officials announced Friday that the fishermen had been rescued by a U.S. Navy destroyer on Thursday, more than 40 days after their boat was commandeered by suspected Somali pirates in the northern Arabian Sea. The rescue came just days after Tehran warned the U.S. to keep the same group of warships out of the Persian Gulf in a reflection of Iran’s fear that American warships could try to enforce an embargo against Iranian oil exports.

“The rescue of Iranian sailors by American forces is considered a humanitarian gesture and we welcome this behavior,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast was quoted as saying by state TV’s Al-Alam Arabic channel.

Photos of the rescued Iranian fisherman showed them happily wearing American Navy ball caps, with one embracing a U.S. sailor.

Iran’s hard-line Fars news agency had a different take, calling the rescue operation a Hollywood dramatization of a routine event.

The Fars report noted that attacks by Somali pirates in the region are common and said that Iran’s navy has itself freed many mariners held by pirates in recent years without seeking to highly publicize it.

Amid escalating tension with Iran over its nuclear program, the Obama administration reveled in delivering Friday‘s announcement and highlighted the fact that the rescuing ships were the same ones Iran’s army chief had just said were no longer welcome in the Persian Gulf.

“Basically, rescuing trading and fishing boats from the hands of pirates in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden is considered a completely normal issue,” Fars said. “A U.S. helicopter filming the rescue operation from the first minute makes it look like a Hollywood drama with specific locations and actors. It shows the Americans tried to publicize it through the media and present the American warship as a savior.”

The semiofficial Fars news agency is considered close to Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard military force.

Fars reported in April that Iranian naval commandos had driven off pirates attempting to hijack a supertanker off Pakistan’s southwestern coast.

“Iran’s navy has rescued various foreign ships from the hands of pirates … but never publicized that,” it said.

Naval forces from several countries patrol shipping lanes in the region in pursuit of Somali pirates. The pirates, who are after huge ransoms, have dramatically expanded their range in recent years and targeted some of the largest vessels to take to the seas, including oil supertankers.

The episode occurred after a week of tough talk from Iranian leaders, including the statement that American vessels were no longer welcome in the Gulf. Iran also warned it could block the Strait of Hormuz, the strategic waterway through which a sixth of the world’s oil flows to market.

The Iranian threats, which were brushed aside by the Obama administration, were in response to strong economic sanctions against Iran over its disputed nuclear enrichment program. A week ago, President Barack Obama signed into law new sanctions targeting Iran’s central bank and its ability to sell petroleum abroad.

At the same time, Iran has sought to project its naval power, carrying out 10 days of military drills at sea near the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

On Saturday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard began new war games near the Afghan border, according to the Guard’s website, sepahnews.com.

Mohammad Pakpoor, commander of the Guard’s ground force, said the maneuvers began outside Khaf, an eastern town near the border. He said the war games were aimed at strengthening Iran‘s borders and increasing the combat readiness of the Guard’s ground force.

Iran is also planning new military exercises near the Hormuz Strait next month.

There is little doubt that the power of individual good will can be easily overcome by very poor foreign policy.

Our elmination of their Democracy in 58 did indeed blowback. We had it coming, as we did in Nicaragua and El Salvador. Our corruption has given hold to the Communist position, much like the Corruption in South Africa gave rise to the Communist tactical change of starting a Civil Rights Campaign in order to reach their goals.

So the ultimate point of poor foreign policy is using wnat ever means opens the door to being called a Rogue State or illegitimate.

What is being faced right now in the Gulf is the unspoken alliance that is being forged between yet another Gulf State and the unseen and unmentioned actor. While we face a build up in Austrailia, hat unmentioned Actor is China, who was building a fiberoptic ComNet for Saddam (remember?) who was wanting OPEC to go to the EURO and move from the Dollar. Remember?

Last Week japan, China and I believe India forged an agreement to trade directly between themselves without the use of the Dollar.

BANG! The US just got shut out of secret taxation the future of the East, if not the world, and the EURO (that proposed tool of Saddam) is not anywhere to be seen.

This is what it is all about. Israel will decimate Iran if they are the least bit inclined, but then again they are now a Defacto Member of NATO, so do they possess any power over their sovereign will?

Judging from the USS Liberty incident, I

Remember, the PEOPLE rose up AGAINST their leaders and cried for help from us only to be ignored completely by Obozocommie while supporting his Muslime Brohood!! (What a traitor to our ideals of a Republic and Democracy in general!!)

During the journalism conference event, I asked Hersh specifically about this meeting and if he could elaborate on what occurred. Hersh explained that, during the meeting in Cheney’s office, an idea was considered to dress up Navy Seals as Iranians, put them on fake Iranian speedboats, and shoot at them. This idea, intended to provoke an Iran war, was ultimately rejected:
HERSH: There was a dozen ideas proffered about how to trigger a war. The one that interested me the most was why don’t we build — we in our shipyard — build four or five boats that look like Iranian PT boats. Put Navy seals on them with a lot of arms. And next time one of our boats goes to the Straits of Hormuz, start a shoot-up.
Might cost some lives. And it was rejected because you can’t have Americans killing Americans. That’s the kind of — that’s the level of stuff we’re talking about. Provocation. But that was rejected.

TheWholeTruth, when I see a nick like yours, it signalizes that what I would read is either a lie, or not the whole truth.

I‘ve got Ozzie friends and they don’t hold that opinion. They are not from the left side of the political spectrum aisle. Maybe that is why. The international left always saw US as a country standing in their way of establishing their utopian paradise on earth. They always scapegoated US and their minions were brainwashed to do the same.

You see, if they picked a specific actions of specific administration, one may consider them having a point form their perspective. But what you usually hear is the sweeping generalizations, and then some other epithets like “noisy, uneducated, self-centered”, etc.

And then you read polls from hospitality industry outside US and the Americans bubble to the top as “generous, friendly, personable”. You may understand that in the eyes of haters these may turn out into “ostentatiously opulent, in your face arrogant, inconsiderate and imposing”.

When there is a major disaster, Americans are usually the first to the rescue, dwarfing others with generosity and speed. Plug in the haters assessment as noted above and add some conspiracy angle. But if Americans did not come to the rescue, they’d get a flak too. Bad if you do, bad if you don’t.

Watch for Obama to send the latest technology home as a peace offering with the fishermen.

All the fisherman will be thrown in jail as soon as they get home. They might just spread the word about what a great bunch of guys they met on the ship.

I don’t think so. Their government will say that it is the anti arab/muslim zionists who control the policy of america and the american people are its’ brainwashed pawns.Unimpeded by anti muslim propaganda the american people are as decent as all people would be with the power to intervene when faced with the sight of defenseless people in the grips of armed pirates. This story has to die fast as it goes against the script or it has to be spun with a vengence to not give the gulls any ideas[about peace and brotherhood with muslims].

This is how humanitarian nations interact. We need to stop with the warmongering.
