This Is What It Looks Like to ‘Fly’ With a Water-Powered Jetpack

Hydro-powered jetpack allows for dolphin-like tricks

Water sports continue to get more exciting. Back in July we brought you the video of a jetpack demo gone wrong – on live TV no less. Now, here is what it looks like when one goes right.

This hydro-power jetpack runs on at least 100 horsepower and mixes with the skills and tricks of competitive diving. Whether you want to flip, dive, barrel roll or stand stagnant 30 plus feet high, this amazing Flyboard has you covered.

Watch the demo:

The Daily Mail reports that this “Iron Man-style” Flyboard was built by Franky Zapata of Marseille, a water sports enthusiast. As you can see, the user isn’t completely free to fly around being tethered to a Jet Ski. The user wears boots that are attached to water jets and controls his or her movement by shifting his or her body and using hand-guided nozzles.

The Daily Mail has more:

Earlier this year much excitement was generated by the water-powered Jetlev jetpack, but the difference with the Flyboard is that you can dive back in the water and out again.

The other difference is the price. The Jetlev costs an eye-watering £60,000, but the basic Flyboard model comes in at £4200.

They share similar mechanics, though, with water being sucked from the ocean through a huge hose attached to a Jet Ski and blasted back out again.

The pressure of the water jet stream is controlled by the Jet Ski operator, which has to have 100 horsepower or more to operate the jetpack.

      @godhatesacoward,

“Very impractical but very f’n cool!”

I could maybe see a use for it as a way to greatly reduce the cost of ferrying goods.

Waterproof the circuitry, put on a SCUBA tank and mask and STAY UNDERWATER! That’s the application I see. Hi speed underwater rescues or just for fun.

Probably only in the movies, OR MILITARY! Imagine the_____ (pick your unfriendly nation with a navy ) when they’re watching for subs, or battleships and suddenly one of these surfaces beside them! With the proper adaptation , disguising, AND, the ability to carry waterproof weaponry? Many nations seamen are extremely supersititious about SEA MONSTERS!!!! (Maybe this is what the Loch Ness really was, just ahead of it’s time!)
      ——-
On a lighter note, AWESOME, if I was 40 yrs younger and a much better swimmer, Wow! It’d be sooooo much fun. (Until you hit the water at that pressure!)

Just what a good FL boy needs…3 to 4 weeks of an awesome ride, then 4 to 6 years in the garage secondary to no time. Heck, I’d walk the plank with one of those bad boys strapped on.

It isn’t a “Water-Powered Jetpack,” it is a Water-Propelled Jetpack. Water does not power the device, it is merely the substance used to propel the rider.

Yes its a gasoline powered water propelled jet pack. Now if it really was water powered it would be more than a toy!

The Obama administration and enviro-weanies will never allow this device to be used in U.S. waters because it does not pass the “green” technology smell-test.

Pretty sure they did and they also pointed out the limitation of the hose. Probably another $million military research project sending money to a needy Senator’s former colleague or campaign manager. I’m thinking the self contained rocket packs are a better way to go.
