Picture of Raccoon Being Painted Over With Yellow Line in Pennsylvania

This photo provided by Sean McAfee from Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, shows a dead raccoon that McAfee saw with the road dividing line painted over it before he stopped his motorcycle to take the picture on Franklin Rd. in Johnstown, Pa. According to PennDOT traffic engineer John Ambrosini, paint crews know to avoid such animals and usually have a foreman on the job to clear any dead animals off the road before the paint-spraying truck equipment passes by. This crew didn't have a foreman that day, and the equipment was too big to turn around in traffic on the curvy, narrow road so the line could be repainted without the carcass in the way. Credit: AP

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (TheBlaze/AP) — The “squirrelly” configuration of a western Pennsylvania road helped cause a state road crew to paint a double-yellow line over a dead raccoon.

Motorcyclist Sean McAfee snapped a photo of the mistake before it could be cleaned up and submitted it to the Tribune-Democrat of Johnstown.

“When I saw it, I almost wrecked my motorcycle because I was laughing so hard,” McAfee told the paper.

He says he almost crashed, he was laughing so hard.

PennDOT spokesman John Ambrosini says paint crews usually have a foreman on the job who clears away any dead animals before the paint-spraying truck equipment passes by. This crew didn’t have a foreman and the equipment was too big to turn around in traffic, remove the animal and repair the paint. He says the “the squirrelly geometry” of the narrow road didn’t help.

We’re unsure if that was a pun.

The crew did try to stop the paint gun, but was unsuccessful. The mishap was cleaned up the next morning.

This is what happens when there’s a union. People are not allowed to do the work of another employee because it’s not in their job description. Unions kill common sense and good work ethic.

You all know full well somewhere there is a DOT worker still laughing his ass off. I love it! This should be Romneys poster child moment for the inefficiancy and lack of quality with anything government run….much like my 2008 Chevrolet Equinox that get‘s seperation anxiety if it doesn’t see the service department every 20,000 miles or so.

Must be a union crew on the hwy. Takes one to trigger the sprayer and 4 more to watch him.
Why work when you can relax. How many have you seen at a construction site, where one uses his shovel, the others are leaning on them?

Good Point. I don’t belong to a union because I want to…I was forced to or lose my job. The only time I asked for help, I was told I had to commit an illegal act or they could not help me. As far as I am concerned, unions, including mine, are just another group with THEIR paws on MY money.

The spokesman was from the Department of Transportation and if it was a private company I’m fairly confident that he would have deflected blame to a private company if he had the opportunity.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”
