This Stinks: Nev. Bill Would Ban Air Fresheners, Candles

If something smells funny about this story, you’re not the only one.
A group of legislators in Nevada are proposing a bill that would ban air fresheners and candles in public places because, they say, the fragrances can annoy some. But Critics say the bill would lead to stinky rooms and prohibit priests from using candles in Mass.
Las Vegas Democratic Assemblyman Paul Aizley on Monday presented the proposed legislation, which would set restrictions on pesticides, fragrances and candles to accommodate people with chemical sensitivities.
Proponents said air fresheners give them migraines or asthma attacks and prevent them from going to the movies or to restaurants. A cocktail waitress at a casino said inhaling the fragrances piped through the ventilation system felt like a concrete slab on her chest.
Critics counter the bill would affect everything from candlelit restaurants and weddings – not to mention unmasked odors in public bathrooms that would drive away tourists.
The bill, AB 234, specifically “prohibits the use of an ozone generator, any volatile organic compound, any candle or any air additive, including an air fragrance, air freshener or potpourri, in any area of a place of public accommodation which is open to the public.”
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Posted on March 15, 2011 at 7:59amGee, what’s next? Maybe they will pass a law that people have to take a bath or shower every day. We can have the stink police go around sniffing people to make sure they comply. Obviously we need laws for everything that might possibly annoy anyone. If those geniuses in Nevada want to pass a law about something that annoys people, Harry Reid annoys the heck out of me.

Posted on December 17, 2011 at 9:10pmIt’s actually dangerous air. The issue is far deeper than odor. You may not consciously feel the effects of chemical from the dispersion of the fragrance but they are very dangerous to all of us. Many of the fragrance machines are using either Acetone or Difluoroethane. Either one is very dangerous to health. They cause Death, people to faint while driving and Du Pont’s says it causes lung cancer in rats. Just go to Du Pont’s website and read the warning about Difluoroethane

Here’s what this section 2 says:
SECTION 2. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
Emergency Overview
Rapid evaporation of the liquid may cause frostbite. Inhalation of high concentration may cause central nervous system depression resulting in dizziness, weakness, nausea, headache and possibly unconsciousness.
Inhalation may cause central nervous system effects. Inhalation of high concentrations of vapor is harmful and may cause heart irregularities, unconsciousness, or death. Intentional misuse or deliberate inhalation may cause death without warning. Vapor reduces oxygen available for breathing and is heavier than air.
Increased susceptibility to the effects of this material may be observed in persons with pre-existing disease of the central nervous system or cardiovascular system.
I used to love fragrance until they started messing with my health. It suck! However if you go back 40 years ago you could tell if an establishment was clean by

Posted on March 15, 2011 at 7:52amThere is literally no end to the types of ‘smells’ that can be irksome or irritating. People who wear too much perfume or cologne. Disenfectant smells in public restrooms. Body odor. Bad breath. Pesticides and chemicals sold in hardware stores…
If you don’t like it, leave and tell the business owner WHY. I don’t have known allergies, but I’ve been driven out of a store more than once. A few times I’ve told the manager and came back another time, only to see the store rearranged to make the smells more controlled. If a business owner finds out that it’s overwhelming to their customers, they’re losing money.
This can be dealt with without legislation but as usual, the left has to regulate what is better left to human diplomacy.

Posted on March 15, 2011 at 7:32amI have the answer.
All should get on the “global warming train” Reduce all emissions. Nevada’s next bill will include human and animal flatulence. Al Gore will patent a de-flatuater and make billions.
The waitress in Vegas will sue Gore because he failed to give the casino a freeby, thereby causing her chest to cave in.
She will hire a lawyer, sue Gore and he will raise the price of the de-flatuaters. They will become so high priced noone can afford them.
The flatulence will get so bad that nobody will go outside. In order to rectumfy the situation, the US Govt will declare all animals as excessive flatuence makers and a bounty will be placed on all animals.
PETA will sue the govt to protect the animals.
The NRA will sue PETA for depriving them of assisting with clearing the air.
The president goes golfing and Congress fashions another piece of legislation without reading it.;
And on and on………..;

Posted on March 15, 2011 at 8:14amSorry.. while I think this bill goes to far.. I HAVE ALLERGIES.. recycled air is the WORST..It’s not the scents as much as the STRENGTH and the SEALED in rooms.. I am sorry but I do think there would be a huge drop in ASTHMA and COPD IF manufacturers would make these things with LESS chemicals.. or if PUBLIC building had WINDOWS that OPENED.. Of course the last one would take care of a lot of problems like people passing around the FLU, COLDS etc.. While everyone was complaining about second hand smoke I beleive the chemicals in a closed in room are MUCH more dangerous..IT however is NOT just Air Fresheners.. each person wears at LEAST 5 scents and that is NOT the same scent they are all differnt.. they have the one from the soap they use EPICALLY deodorant soaps which smell stronger when you sweat.(they DON’T smell good either.. they smell like SOAP.. like you didn‘t’ rinse off ).. deodorant.. whatever fabric softener you used on your clothes, hair conditioner,hand lotions or body lotions than we have various hair products, make up, and to top it off after shave or colones/perfumes.. None of which are NATURAL smells.. and ALL of which are CHEMICALS soaking into your skin and as you sweat releasing into the air.. People are suppose to SEE you coming NOT smell you coming.. Just think in a CLOSED in PUBLIC room with recycled air a hundred people can have on the low end 500 different scents (chemicals) going though a ventilation system that is SHARED with other rooms that could have another 500 scents.. the problem will stop when 1. they mandate windows that OPEN even slightly for air flow.. 2. they make sure they check building on maintenance on filters in closed buildings are changed once a week depending on traffic in building..OR people start realizing just how many chemicals they are using.. this increases in people who seem so focused on being healthy with all their habits BUT hygiene.. there the OD on chemicals and wonder WHY they have problems..It would ALSO explain WHY since so many places have NO SMOKING in them but people ARE STILL having the SAME problems they blamed on the smokers..

Sorry about your scent challenges.
Here in Ohio it is now illegal to smoke inside any business. I was at a restaurant for the first time in a year. No longer are there ‘smoking ’ rooms. Non smokers admitted they could not smell the smoke. It OFFENDED them that it could still be seen and it is bad for me.
MANY bars and food joints are closed. The large chain franchise I met former coworkers at; sales dropped 25% immediately after the law was enacted, and has NEVER recovered. I used to be accommodating to non smokers. Now I could care less………………………
So shall we ban trees pollinating. How about dead wild animals decaying after they become road pizza? volcanoes belching?

So, we punish a million because of 100? Your statement is ridiculous and has no merit; neither do your words about JUDGING. No one is judging. Look up the word. Everytime a law is made and enforced, it does 2 things:
1. Controls the people
2. Removes more freedom from the people.
I am allergic to cigarette smoke. Do I whine and carry on? NO. I stay away from people who smoke or places where there is smoke. I am humble enough to KNOW that it is NOT my right to punish others because of my own selfish reason, no matter how important they may be for me. However, having said that, there are just some things that are NOT morally right and those are worth fighting for: such as abortion. Now, if the air concentration becomes so saturated that NO ONE CAN BREATHE, then there should be steps taken to reduce that. But, to pass a law: he is grandstanding because he is a Democrat and because he has no morals.

That being said, I don’t think legislation is the way to go here, but as a mom, I do appreciate the awareness that some people have to this important issue. Count your blessings if you are healthy and all of your family members are too. It is terrible to watch a loved-one struggle to breath, even with the aid of medicine, simply because of common chemicals that people put on themselves (i.e. perfumes in detergent, cologne, deodorant, shampoo, etc). Going to school, stores, or even to church can be impossible for chemically sensitive people (often times these are kids), simply because of the common chemicals in the air. Many chemically-sensitive people (including children) have to deal with unnecessary hurdles to accomplish the most mundane, everyday activiity simply because we are a culture that is obsessed with perfumes.
