This Study Claims Islamic Extremists Aren‘t Seeking ’World Domination’ (Yes, Really)

Adam Levine published a story Monday on CNN’s “Security Clearance” blog titled: “Study: Muslim extremists not looking for world domination.”

Citing an Arizona State University study that was supported by a grant from the Office of Naval Research, Levine paraphrases:

Muslim extremists are more concerned with defending against foreign intrusion than foisting Islam on the world, according to a new study of extremist texts. The study suggests that a Western approach of claiming extremists are seeking world domination is misdirected, and instead should seek to counteract claims of victimhood. [...]

The study concludes that extremists, at least based on how they quote from the Quran, do not reflect “an aggressive offensive foe seeking domination and conquest of unbelievers, as is commonly assumed. Instead they deal with themes of victimization, dishonor and retribution.” [Emphasis added]

To combat the efforts of extremists, Arizona State University recommends “alternative approaches,” citing a State Department video of Ayman al-Zawahiri calling for violence to overthrow despotic rulers interspersed with images of protesters in Tahrir Square.  If that fails, Arizona State University also suggests “undermining” the “champion” narrative of the extremists.

But even CNN’s commenters find the study dubious.  Though “world domination” is certainly not the desire of mainstream Muslims, to claim that the Islamic extremists want otherwise is to ignore centuries of literature and years of their leaders explicitly telling the West their intentions.

One commenter, named “Omar,” wrote that the study only undermines ASU’s credibility:

…the [Islamists] are fighting the wars that are currently in front of them to reach their desired goal: the supremacy of [Islamic] law in the regions under contention. However, their guiding books and ideology make it clear that [Islamic] law is the ONLY legitimate law on the planet and that every expression of man made law or instance of power in the hands of non-muslim over muslim is illegitimate and an abomination. World domination may not be on the menu today, but it will be tomorrow, at least once anything resembling the caliphate is resurrected.

Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch compiled a brief list of prominent figures contradicting Arizona State University’s study:

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said, “Have no doubt… Allah willing, Islam will conquer what?  It will conquer all the mountain tops of the world.”

Omar Ahmad… [of the] Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), has said that “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth.”

Majid Khadduri was an Iraqi scholar of Islamic law of international renown… Khadduri says this about jihad: “…The Islamic state, whose principal function was to put God’s law into practice, sought to establish Islam as the dominant reigning ideology over the entire world….The jihad was therefore employed as an instrument for both the universalization of religion and the establishment of an imperial world state.” [...]

A Shafi’i manual of Islamic law endorsed by the most prestigious institution in Sunni Islam, Al-Azhar University in Cairo? It says that the leader of the Muslims “makes war upon Jews, Christians, and Zoroastrians…until they become Muslim or else pay the non-Muslim poll tax,”…

There is an overwhelming difference between average Muslims and Islamic extremists, and to pretend that they are the same is patently dangerous. Arizona State University has seemingly overlooked years of speeches, warnings and promises in compiling their study, and it doesn’t look like many people are buying it.

After all, it is kind of difficult to interpret “Islam will conquer…all the mountaintops of the world” as anything other than wanting a form of global domination.

Whether the extremists have any chance of realizing that goal, however, remains to be seen.

    It is stupid people like this that put obama in in the first place…….Really, Einstein……..so all the things they say about the caliphate and islam being the religion of the new world order are what………just kidding around? Do you even know what caliphate means? If ignorance is bliss, they have got to be the most blissful people on earth…. Cloud nine is several floors below where they reside….must be nice….

    OK, so Muslim extremists do not seek to conquer the world just for the sake of domination. They also want to do it to get retribution for some dishonor they perceive the world has shown them. What’s the difference! Don’t the idiots who authored this study understand that just by not accepting Islam the world has brought “dishonor” to Muslims in the eyes of the extremists? Muslims still hold a grudge from the crusades of a thousand years ago. They still think the entire western world is to blame for preventing them from conquering the known world back then. That’s all the reason they need to seek “retribution” against us. The only way I can explain this study’s conclusion is that the Office of Naval Research, who funded the study, received the same mandate from Obama that NASA did:

    President Obama told NASA administrator Charles Bolden that his highest priority should be “to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science … and math and engineering.”

      Seriously, exactly how much money is the blaze, it’s staff or GB getting from military contractors to continue the propaganda regarding the “Arab Threat” and thus the need for an ever expanding military and increased military spending.       you’ve gotten ahold of some bad history.. You are correct however in the fact that Hitler did try to peacefully relocate Jews away from Germany pre War. He had worked out a plan with high level Zionist to send them to Palestine which in his opinion would benefit both Germany and the Jews.

      Germany never attacked Britian. Germany absolutely 100% did not want a War with Britian, France, or the US. England and France both attacked Germany first after Germany had invaded Poland. That’s just the facts. Now Russia invaded Poland as well less than 2 weeks after Germany did; however, France England and the US had no problem with Russia’s invasion… Nor Russia’s early invasions of Finland Poland or other Baltics.. .Nor did our US Gov’t have any problem with Lenin and Stalin slaughtering some 20 million Russian Christians all before the start of WW2….

      But along comes little ole Hitler wanting a Germany for the German people only and the Jews had to have a War… Recall International Jewry declared War on Germany in 1933? They didn’t care about the millions being slaughtered in Russia… But a Germany for Germans was a cause for total World War!

      In summary WW2 was War between German Nationalists and International Jewry. IJ bought off all the Allies and already ran Russia so in the end they were able to defeat the Nationalists.

      IJ is always at War with Nationalism. Today Russia has Nationalist aspirations so they are the new Germany in the Media…

      @TECH okay..thanks for the history lesson…I have a client who told me of being a kid in Great Britain and he suffered through some bombings from Germany..     Most of the kids that go to college begin at age 17 or 18…… still immature enough to be persuaded by their professors that Islam is a peaceful religion and that we have nothing to fear from Muslims and their ideology.     This is a kind of ‘well duh!’ statement as I read it. Of course they’re more worried about strengthening their foothold and total control where they have it. ~sigh~ If the rest of the world just pulled out entirely and severed all ties with that region and the islamists got full control and did not have to worry about these things anymore ~ What the heck do you think their next step would be!?

Then on top of that remind them of 9/11 It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the Worlds in major trouble. Look at EU and some countries in Europe, ya know the ones that are being overrun with muslims. Sharia law is infiltrating into the UK and many other countries and everyones blind to it. Its a Trojan horse and we just let them bring it in. Our University’s and Colleges are being funded by them also! Look at islam chairing New Buildings for campuses and Mosques right next door. Look at who gets to pick the Instructors, do ya think their vetted? People we need to stop accepting any money from muslims for mosques! It may be to late. Yesterday I posted a link to Prophecy in the News. Watch the yesterdays dail video. Why is it muslims are building 45,000 sq ft buildings, when they only have 200 families in that area attending. It sounds like obama is going to bring over a few 100,000 families. Would it then make sense to build huge mosques?

      If as they say “All Politics is Local” can we also look to the local to discern what the sum of it’s parts is up to? Islam is on the move everywhere it is found, if in the minority it attacks the majority, if parity exists Islam attacks for dominance, if dominate Islam attacks to remove any competition.
