Atheists Take Down DNC-Centric Billboards Calling Jesus a ‘Useless Savior,’ & Bashing Mormonism — Here’s Why

Atheist activists are known for their angst-inspiring billboards. These messages typically take aim at religious institutions and those who subscribe to them — and they’re also generally very timely, with themes focusing upon holidays and political happenings. During an intense electoral season, for instance, American Atheists, an organization devoted to spreading secularism, is taking aim at presidential candidates’ faith.
But, in North Carolina, where the group’s billboards were strategically posted just weeks ago in an effort to coincide with the Democratic National Convention, complaints have led the organization to take the offensive messages down.
Fox News has more about the purported removal of the controversial messaging:
American Atheists and Adams Outdoor Advertising are reportedly removing two Charlotte billboards blasting Christianity and Mormonism following an outpouring of complaints and threats.
The Bradenton Herald report that the billboards, which targeted the faiths of President Barack Obama and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, went up two weeks ago and were intended to be displayed for the duration of the national conventions.
So, what was it that led to such intense reaction from those who observed the billboards? Consider their contents. As previously reported, the first has the header “Christianity.“ It goes on to call God ”sadistic“ and to dub Jesus Christ a ”useless” savior. The full text reads, “Sadistic God; Useless Savior, 30,000+ Version of ‘Truth.’ Promotes Hate, Calls it ‘Love.’”
News reports about the billboards apparently led to a national outpouring of anger. Amanda Knief, managing director of American Atheists, told Fox News that “vitriol, threats and hate speech” has been waged against staffers, volunteers and against Adams Outdoor Advertising, the company that helped place the billboards.
“It was a mutual decision between us and Adams Advertising for the safety and interests of both organizations that the billboards come down,” Knief said of the decision to take the controversial billboards down.
On Thursday, Adams Outdoor Advertising issued the following statement about the removal of the campaign:
The American Atheist billboard campaign was accepted on First Amendment grounds. Adams Outdoor Advertising stands behind our position that the ability to express one’s opinion is a right and a privilege of our democratic society. However, due to the public response to the messaging, The American Atheists have agreed to remove the advertising copy in question in Charlotte. We appreciate the feedback, opinions and dialogue we have received.
So, it seems intentional controversy and mockery did little to benefit the secular cause (at least this time).

Adams advertising: Firstly, we do NOT have a democracy (it is a republic – if we can keep it). Tampa advertisers know about free speech and exercised it. You, unfortunately, discovered the hard way that offensive speech, while guaranteed, is not always welcomed. May your billboards rot away with no advertisers.

Posted on August 26, 2012 at 11:02pmAtheists.org is full of idiots. They attack people for their beliefs and expect people to flock to them? I’m an atheist and I find them offensive. They say Christians are hateful and bigoted and fail to recognize the irony in that.
Report Post »There are several different churches within a couple miles of my home and I’ve walked into several of them during their ceremonies. No one said I wasn’t allowed in. The Mormon church keeps inviting me back. The churchgoers are super friendly and even welcome me, an atheist, to listen to them. The atheist people are spewing the hate and intolerance, not the churches… or at least none of the churches I visited.
Also, as an atheist myself… I can’t help to wonder why they want to push their belief in… nothing. “You must believe what I believe!… I got nothing. Let’s just hate everyone who believes in God.” Nope, there is nothing more repulsive to me than intolerance of others’ ideas, beliefs, race… so I choose to stand with the Conservative-Libertarians. I was completely apolitical for decades until I saw all the dishonesty and intolerance coming from the Leftists during Clinton’s administration, then when Progressivism was exposed… that was the kicker that locked me in with the Right.

I don’t think God would want us to sit by and watch the destruction of our faith and our country. Now is the time to get angry and do something about it. Vote!!! No violence, but strong words to fight all the desecration of what we believe in – God and Country.

The next patron to come in was a Libertarian with a hunched back. He shuffled over to a booth, painfully sat down, and asked the waitress for a cup of hot tea. He glanced across and asked, “Is that Jesus over there? The waitress nodded, so the he asked her to give Jesus a cup of hot tea,
The third patron to come into the restaurant was a Democrat on crutches. He hobbled over to a booth, sat down and hollered, “Hey honey! How about gettin’ me a cold glass of Miller Light?” He, too, looked across and asked, “Is that God’s boy over there?” The waitress once more nodded, so the he directed her to give Jesus a cold glass of beer. “On my bill,” he said.
As Jesus got up to leave, he passed by the Republican, touched him and said, “For your kindness, you are healed.” The Republican felt the strength come back into his legs, got up, and danced a jig out the door.
Jesus also passed by the Libertarian, touched him and said, “For your kindness, you are healed.” The Libertarian felt his back straightening up, and raised his hands, praised the Lord and did back flips out the door.
Then Jesus walked towards the Democrat. The Democrat jumped up and yelled, “Don’t touch me

How can you keep directing a message of hatred and negativity towards God if you do not believe He exists? Could one of you atheists please answer this question? Since you cannot hate a thing if you do not believe that thing exists. This is because by definition if it does not exist there is nothing to hate. There is no possible escape from this logic! Therefore being an atheist is not about believing God does not exist it is all about hating the one God all Christians believe in. IMCHRISTIAN “Jenny – We do not know the time or date (could be today or millions of years)”
Not millions, God said when you see these signs this generation will not pass from the earth before all is fulfilled. Typically a generation was one of three times: 40, 70, or 120 years. If from the parable of the fig tree we take 1948 as the starting date we have 1988 (gone), 2018, or 2068. One could also reason it meant someone alive in flesh in 1948 will still be alive when Jesus steps foot on the Mount of Olives. The true Jesus not the fake who comes first that is. Since everything is accelerating my guess would be 2018 at the latest but only God knows the day and the hour.
I vote for the theory we have little time left until all prophecy has been fulfilled.

Report Post »Quite simply the answer is God said He would withdraw His spirit from the earth in the last days (yes this is yet another sign)

That is a dangerous interpretation. No man can come to Jesus unless the Father draws him and convinces him of sin (John 6:44; 16:8). We know there will be saints on earth during the Great Tribulation. Most of them will be martyred. (Rev. 7:9-17) The Holy Spirit will also protect and anoint the remanent of Israel during the final 3 1/2 years. (Rev. 12:14-16).

Posted on August 27, 2012 at 3:55amKryptonite it will be dangerous to who His children or the heathen? Maybe a better way of putting it would be they will drive His Spirit away from them: Matthew 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. KJV In short the Spirit of God will not dwell with evil, just as God required the Israelite’s to maintain their areas in a state of cleanliness if they wished Him to be near them, or they were to stay away from sex before a battle if they wished Him to protect them. This is all in the book. While He said He would pour out His Spirit upon all flesh this does not mean everyone will suddenly give up evil and be nice to their neighbors. If they fill themselves with evil they drive the Spirit away leaving themselves with a reprobate mind, devoid of conscience. It could be a matter of interpretation as to whether they drove God away or He turned them over to a reprobate mind, or that God turned them over to a reprobate mind because they drove Him away. If you do not see this either you live under a rock or you have not lived the decades I have because I remember back in the 50′s a very different way of life. People were decent in large numbers and gang violence and drive-by shootings were unknown. There were a few evil people as it has always been but nothing like the overwhelming onslaught it is today in such numbers. I was explaining to ImChristian why the anger is on the rise in so many, not how God will protect His own. You are off topic.
