Three Frightening Revelations About the Border Found in Beck‘s New Book ’Cowards’

Three Frightening Revelations About the Border in Glenn Becks New Book Cowards

File photo.

In Glenn Beck’s new book, “Cowards,” the best-selling author, nationally syndicated radio host and founder of GBTV (Soon-to-be renamed The Blaze TV) touches upon nearly every hot-button issue facing America today in a read that is both compelling and frightening at times.

One of the chapters in the book focuses solely on the U.S. border, and while it isn’t exactly what one might consider “light reading” — and may leave you wanting to curl up in a corner somewhere — it is certainly an eye-opening account of what may really being going on along our southern border.  You can get an immediate eBook of “Cowards” — click here.

Here are three of the most unsettling revelations about the border found in “Cowards.”

Mexican Drug Cartels are Here in America

Despite the fact that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says “the border is better now than it ever has been,” Beck argues that drug cartels are currently operating inside the United States and regardless of what the feds say, spillover violence is dripping across our southern border. And he has the evidence to back up his claim.

“According to the Justice Department’s National Drug Intelligence Center, Mexican drug cartels have a presence–either direct or by proxy, in over one-thousand U.S. cities. Ninety percent of the illegal drugs consumed in this country come from our neighbor to the south,” Beck writes.

But even more disturbing than the fact that drug cartels own homes and operate front businesses in the U.S. is the reality of the brutal violence they bring with them.

Three Frightening Revelations About the Border in Glenn Becks New Book Cowards

In this Monday, March 12, 2012 photo, a house on a quiet cul-de-sac in Brownsville, Texas. U.S. prosecutors say Rafael Cardenas Vela, nephew of the Mexican Gulf cartel's former boss, bought the home with drug money. (AP Photo/Chris Sherman)

DHS regularly uses cherry-picked statistics to make the case that big U.S. border cities are some of the safest in the country and therefore no spillover violence from Mexico exists. But according to Beck, these and other statistics are being purposefully manipulated to minimize the threat of cartels in the U.S., leaving a fuzzy and distorted image of their influence in America.

Here is the definition of “spillover violence” that DHS is currently using:

[S]pillover violence entails deliberate, planned attacks by the cartels on U.S. assets, including civilian, military or law enforcement officials, innocent U.S. citizens, or physical institutions such as government buildings, consulates, or business. This definition does not include trafficker on trafficker violence, whether perpetrated in Mexico or the U.S.

Glenn Beck

As Beck puts it, “In other words, if a drug cartel member beheads five rival drug cartel members in the middle of Dallas, DHS would not consider that to be ‘spillover violence.’” The book also notes that Napolitano likes to use crime statistics from only big border cities such as San Diego, El Paso and Nogales, Ariz., which are some of the safest in the county.

So why exactly is Beck so worked up about the spillover violence coming from Mexico’s drug cartels? He explains:

Well perhaps it’s about looking past the crime stats to the cartel member who was beheaded in his Chandler, Arizona, apartment for telling his drug bosses his drug load was seized, when in fact he had sold it and kept the money. Or the six-year-old boy who was kidnapped from his Las Vegas home at gunpoint because his grandfather owed a cartel more than one million dollars. Maybe it’s about the five men who were tortured and then killed by having their throats slit in northern Alabama by men working for the Gulf cartel. Or the Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputy in Texas who was shot three times while responding to a cartel-related kidnapping call. Could it be the shoot-out between Gulf cartel members that happened on a McAllen, Texas highway? Or maybe it was the dismembered corpse discovered on a rural Tucson highway, and the possible link to another dismembered body found two weeks earlier in Southern California near the Hollywood sign.

And these incidents, he says, are just a “drop in the bucket.”

Hezbollah in our Backyard

In a confidential memo issued in September 2010, the Tucson Police Department in Arizona reported on Hezbollah’s presence in Mexico and possible ties to Mexican drug cartels operating on the U.S.-Mexico border. The only reason we know about it today is because the document was later leaked by the hacker group LulzSec.

Three Frightening Revelations About the Border in Glenn Becks New Book Cowards

Alleged Hezbollah operations.

Though the report is unable to prove an official connection, Beck explains, the author of the memo mentions two specific incidents that seem to show Hezbollah, a designated terrorist organization, is establishing a permanent presence in Mexico and slipping through our borders:

The arrest of Jameel Nasr in Tijuana, who was alleged to be tasked with establishing the Hezbollah network in Mexico and throughout South America, and the arrest of Jamal Yousef in New York City. Yousef owned a pretty decent weapons cache, including 100 M-16 assault rifles. 100 AR-15 rifles 2,500 hand grenades, C4 explosives and antitank munitions. He told police that the weapons, which were being stored n Mexico, had been stolen from Iraq with the help of his cousin, who was a member of Hezbollah.

In another incident, from May 2011, a local news station in San Diego interviewed a former U.S. intelligence agent (his name and agency were never mentioned) who said, “We are looking at 15 to 20 years that Hezbollah has been setting up shop in Mexico.” He also told the news station that Hezbollah is partnering with unidentified drug organizations, and that the group receives cartel cash and protection in exchange for Hezbollah expertise, “from money laundering to firearms training and explosives training.”

As if that isn’t alarming enough, Beck goes on to say that thousands of people affiliated with Hezbollah are living in the United States, some of them for quite a while.

He points to a 2008 raid on a Queens, New York warehouse where police confiscated $4.5 million worth of fake merchandise in the largest raid of its kind in U.S. history. New York investigators later revealed that the proceeds from the knock-offs were likely headed to Middle Eastern terrorist organizations.

However, if there is any silver lining in this scenario, Beck says it’s this: “there is no evidence than an operational member of a terrorist group–meaning someone toting a bomb, or actively planning to kill lots of Americans–has gotten into the United States via Mexico, yet.”

Feel better?

When it Comes to Drug Smuggling, Cartels Are Innovators

According to Beck, drug cartels specialize in four drugs: marijuana, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine. The United Nations estimates the cartels make as much as $30 billion each year from drug sales.

As mentioned earlier, the U.S. gets 90 percent of its drug supply from Mexico, which would make us sort of a preferred customer of the cartels. And while a lot of the drugs come across the border hidden in secret trunk compartments or carried by “drug mules,” cartels have had to get creative in order to keep up with the demand. And right now, their business is booming.

The use of border tunnels, drug submarines and ultralight planes is becoming increasingly more common for drug traffickers who want to minimize the risk of being caught and get their drugs into the U.S.

Three Frightening Revelations About the Border in Glenn Becks New Book Cowards

This tunnel is a 600-yard passage linking warehouses in San Diego and Tijuana and is equipped with lighting and ventilation. (AP Photo/Alex Cossio)

Beck provides more details in his book:

More than one hundred cross-border tunnels have been discovered in the past decade, including seven major tunnels along the San Diego border with Mexico in the past five years alone, according to U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE). Some of these tunnels are engineering wonders, with concrete-reinforced walls, ventilation systems, wired-in lighting, and track systems for transporting drugs quickly. Other tunnels are more like rabbit holes.

Drug subs can can be “multibillion dollar affairs” built by brilliant Russian engineers or just a cheaply built contraption that can barely make the trip, however, no matter what the price tag the subs can carry a lot of drugs.

Ultralights can carry about 250 pounds of drugs and one person. They can be hard to detect by radar because they fly just below it.

Some other methods have included stuffing a frozen shark with packages of cocaine and creating actual statues of Jesus made out of a plaster-cocaine mixture.

As Beck points out, “There is nothing quite like drugs and money to bring out maximum creativity in criminals.”

But don’t worry! We can solve ALL our illegal immigration problems by basically completing the fence (only) at 5%!

Or not deporting young illegals, from Mexico where records are spoty, falsefied, or none existant at best, with 1 in 4 having violent sexual assualt pasts (according to a report from our own government). Yes, after a certain age you’re bat snot to our fearless Dictator-in-cheif.

And Oboner says that there is no illegal immigration problem? Guess he forgot to tell the Drug Cartel that they should not be seen here until after he is re-elcted. This is how this DUFUS is going to take the “Black” House next term. He is going to have the drug cartels attack our borders and advance into our country, have top cities riot in the streets and then declare martial law, stop the election process this year, name himself the dictator of the new United Muslim States of Obama. If we allow this to happen, we nobody to blalme but ourselves.

I live in the Houston area and I have some good connections with two or three law enforcement agencies in Southern and S.E.Texas. Hizbollah has crossed the border. Some have been caught. When they are captured along with some illegal Mexicans and identified as arabic, the government demands to be contacted and these people are picked up by government types within hours. No one sees them again. How many get through? More Hizbollah agents cross undetected than are captured.

Who cares? Drugs are fun, and I don’t see gangsters killing gangsters as a problem as long as they don’t target civilians. Since I don’t want to wash dishes or pick lettuce, I don’t give a hoot if some immigrants get through. Heck, if it wasn’t for illegal immigration, we wouldn’t have the great state of Texas in the first place. It was founded by guys who illegally immigrated to northern Mexico from the U.S. And as for Hezbollah. They’re like terrorism lite. Their political wing has grown bigger and more active than their military, and it’s working well for them. Thirty years ago when they were most active as terrorists, anyone in America or western Europe who vocally sided with Palestinians over Israelis would be shunned and denounced. They aren’t about to start blowing up Americans willy-nilly when they are steadily gaining ground on the political front.

You don’t live here, do you Chet? And FYI,Texas was settled by the Indians and Spanish, then French took it, then Mexico, then the neglected Tejano and Anglo- Mexican citizens revolted and created the free nation and Republic of Texas. Then we became Americans, Conferderates, and then Americans again.

There’s no such thing as an “Anglo-Mexican citizen.” Anglo means English, and if you reread your little lecture of historical facts that I already knew, you will notice that no part of Mexico was ever English. The Anglo settlers were illegal immigrants from the U.S., and Texas would never have become a state without them.

You are correct, Anglo-Mexican could be interpreted as an English Mexican, or someone who has descent from both ancestries. However it can also refer to an alliance between English or Anglo descended settlers and Mexican settlers who wished to overthrow the corrupt Mexican government to form their own Republic. Now go smoke some more weed, the adults are having a conversation.

      @ Chet
What???? You are going to school me? OK. Historical news flash!!! Anglos came to Texas for cheap land and running away from debt or crimes they committed.and became loyal to the Spanish crown and then to the Mexican Republic. So they were not illegal aliens! They had to take an oath of loyalty. Anglos were Spanish and then Mexican citizens. There’s no other way to describe them until Texas fought for independence and the were called Texians and then Texans. Everything was already settled with little bustling communities through the Spanish missions and priests and trying to convert Indians in different parts of Texas. Many new Anglo settlers learned Spanish, converted to Catholicism, and intermarried with Spanish ranching families and conformed to the rules an regulations of the Spanish Crown and then the Mexican Republic. English was learned by the natives in what was Mexico through Anglos! It’s when they wanted to trade slaves and were basically forgotten by the Mexican government in the northernmost part of Mexico (Texas) that led to revolt. Yes, Anglos didn’t create a state, but a country, a Republic, at that time, but so did Tejanos, but I doubt you know who they are, right? Without them, the Anglos would not have prospered or even survived the Indians.Geez, I learned this in 7th and 8th grade Texas History! And you’re going to tell me how it is? Wow. You are definitely not a Texan.

Amazing. Chet?I would really like to know what you call White people who became Spanish subjects during the late 1700‘s to early 1800’s New Spain, France, and Mexico of what is now Texas? Simple, they were Spanish, French, or Mexican subjects/citizens. HENCE, Anglo-Mexicans in the later years of revolt. Please remember that we are mixed heritages especially here in South Texas. Look it up. Polish married senoritas. Senoritas married Germans. That how they rolled back in the day. Spanish, English, German, and Polish are still spoken here today. Anglos adapted even if they didn’t want to learn Spanish, they did if they wanted to get along with their new wives regardless of starting English speaking colonies. Hell, even Jim Bowie married a Spanish surnamed beauty. White doesn’t really mean Aryan down here. Even the Germans were as despised as Mexicans in Texas history as Texas grew. May I recommend, David Montejano’s “Anglos and Mexicans in the Making of Texas 1836-1986″ The tone is angry, but then Texas has seen many historical highs, lows, and ugly growing pains and pangs over time. I‘d like to think we’re tougher and wiser for it.

Thank you for your “entertaining” history lesson. When Americans were invited to live in Texas with promised land and freedom that was an “invasion” you say? Then when Mexico went through one of their countless coups or changes of govt.- there were so many it’s hard to keep track – Antonio de Padua María Severino López de Santa Anna y Pérez de Lebrón decided he didn’t have to uphold those promises made to those Americans who had joined his nation in Texas. But as things usually go when dictators lie to Americans he was shown he would have been much better off by living up to the promises. But ticked off Mexicans have distorted this story for 170 years or so. And even now ignorant bozos believe the convoluted version of history purported by the Mexicans. They should about “Reconquista” and invade our country without an invitation. So far we haven’t kept our promise to toss them back across the border to where they came from. Personally I think we should toss them out in the middle of desert in N. Africa with one bottle for water and another to pee in. Why should Americans have all the fun of an illegal invasion. Lots of other countries could be just as happy as we are with cheap labor to do the work they won’t do. I guess no one told me I didn’t have to do that sort of thing because I did do it for years. I worked on a farm picking apples and other crops and I worked construction. But my children have no chance to do that work – the Mexicans are doi

The fact that Hezbollah is in America was reported by Steve Emerson over 10 years ago. He is an expert in terrorism, and now has to live in hiding because of what he has reported. The Mexican Mafia is in Arizona and they are scary. People (esp. democrats and the msm) think that Republicans are “racist” because we want the borders CLOSED. There are a slew of reasons to close the borders, including the terrorists that cross our borders, the drug cartels as well as illegal aliens that cross to come for a “better life” but end either costing US citizens a lot of money because of all of the freebies they get, or they become or continue being criminals (in AZ we have lost many police officers due to being shot by illegal aliens). So, it’s not about race, it’s about protecting US citizens, period.

Oh, so the answer is Mr Paul, more Obama, anarchy? Which is it? Who’s your dog in the fight? We’ve, as a country, been asleep too long, and as a people, gave rise to the cartels with our insatiable appetite for drugs. Obama didn’t do this alone but, with his administration looking the other way at this time in history, he will allow the demise of the greatest country ever to have graced this planet. So you think a Libertarian President will solve these problems? You know Obama will not sove these problems. Anarachists? Really?

I’m sad at the prospect of a declining America but we have no one to blame but ourselves. I’m not going out without a fight. I believe in the constitution and the spirit for which it was created. We need to come together as a nation and put down our petty political arguments and solve these problems. Aren’t the Excutive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of government on the same team? What’s worse is that when the fall of this great nation is complete, those who spoke ill of it will hide there sorry arsses and speak of Liberty and America as if they fought for it.

      @D-Fence

      CONFUSING:
      “anarchy?”
      CLEARED CONFUSION:
Ron Paul represents ADHERENCE to law. The leftist republican/democrat party represents SELECTIVE law… which is MUCH closer to “anarchy.”

      CONFUSION:
“So you think a Libertarian President will solve these problems?”
      CLEARED CONFUSION:
Actually Ron Paul is a CONSTITUTIONAL libertarian (FAKE-conservatives tend to… LEAVE THAT OUT). Furthermore, Ron Paul is MORE CONSERVATIVE than ANY OTHER TOP TIER republican. Romney, on the other hand, is LEFTIST, same as Obama.

NO TRUER WORDS HAVE EVER BEEN SPOKEN ON THIS SITE:
“but we have no one to blame but ourselves.”
Yes, “we” (NOT me) have elevated “lesser evils” into ALL BRANCHES AND LEVELS of government. “We” (NOT me) HAVE DESTROYED THIS NATION IN DOING SO.

      GIBBERISH:
“I’m not going out without a fight.”
      TRUTH:
Submitting to a “lesser evil” IS, BY DEFINITION, SURRENDER!

      CORRECT:
“What’s worse is that when the fall of this great nation is complete, those who spoke ill of it will hide there sorry arsses and speak of Liberty and America as if they fought for it.”
Yes, this is ANOTHER reason why FAKE-conservatives make my skin crawl. The problem is not on the streets and in the night clubs, those people are all over and I think we have all watched what can happen when people ban together and fight (we are doing this here in Florida with the voter rolls). 30 billion a year from drugs, that would destroy any country or God. You need to make sure your children know the dangers and acknowledge how these people make their money, from your children. Its more then just music, it is the whole industry that surrounds it and your children need to know that. Its not right and you are not racist, you are only doing Gods work as a productive parent. I believe that if there is no money for these mindless idiots to go to da club, we will have a very large rash of home invasions this summer. They have already started even though the news will not report it. In order to keep these invasions down our president will have to pay out another stimulus to keep these punks under control. Pretty sad but the democrats have created this along with help from(racists) We the People who are scared to point the finger at the real problem(rap music industry). I hope me or my friends or my family do not end up in a home invasion gone bad. But like one rapper said to a lawyer friend of his,“Its gonna be one hot summer”. Gotta love those god fearing rappers. I believe this administration not only wants gun violence, they need it. Boarder violence does not fit the narrative they want an out of control American populace, or at least the appearance of it.

Living in South Texas we saw this happening years ago, but no one realy paid any attention. Things have gotten significantly worse since NAFTA. Scary uninspected Mexican trucks do get into this country. Yup, it’s all true. Haven’t bought the book , but wonder if Beck mentions human trafficking. It’s also a significant problem once a large number of illegals get here successfully from all over Central America. They hide them in plain American neighborhoods and could be right next door. It’s very common here. I warn people to pay attention. Communicable disease is a major threat as well. TB cases are being more common because illegals bring these cases over here and they are treated in our hospitals and local clinics free of charge. Welcome to Texas Glenn. You get a little break, though being up there in North Texas. But, he’s right, the cartels are controlling not only their Mexican goverment, but they have been invading our economy and communites for decades. Businesses and homes are being bought up by Mexican citizens like hotcakes more than ever in the RGV and here in San Antonio. They get financed quickly and/or have the liquidity to pay cash for everything. Terrorists, cartels, illegal aliens bringing God knows what into our nation, and our own DOJ are provoking Texans to consider secession more and more these days.

Add North Korea to your list. The original tunnels had the same handiwork as the tunnels we found under the DMZ in Korea in the 1980s. If you check the back issues of Counter terrorism magazine, you will find where an AN-2 Colt aircraft in camo, still operational was on a beachfront airstrip on the baja peninsula. Only the DPNK still use the AN-2. Please follow up on this information.

If CRAPPY DRUG ADDLED AMERICANS would stop using drugs there would be no demand. If we cut out Welfare so that drug users would have to spend their own noney on drugs instead of the extra money our Government gave them, usage would go down. If we started either locking up USERS forever or Legalize the drugs and tax it, there would be no problem either. Bottom line…The war on drugs has made the United States a Police State that reallly does not want to control drugs. It wants to control PEOPLE.

The war on drugs is a miserable failure, many Americans are pure idiot addicts and cause the demand. Either give it to them or start locking them up forever! Make up your mind.

Godless yuppies also fuel the drug trade. It isn’t just hookers and destitute junkies…there are many, many casual users in the middle & upper classes.

Don’t agree with legalizing it, but locking them up works for me. We have such a weak culture. Individuals avoiding real life is what makes the cartels wealthy.
We make Mexico an offer and purchase it.
      We crush the cartels militarily.
(With all the money we send to Mexico, it is blantantly clear that they really do not want the cartels destoyed. They just steal our money and buy Blackhawk helicopters and illegally fly over US airspace for SHOW.)
And we repeal NAFTA. You cannot have a truly secure border with it. Too much gets into the country under a legal guise.Especially from China. China to Mexico and BAM! It’s in America, lead, Bird Flu, TB, etc.

I agree, that is why I am an advocate of drug testing via hair, finger nail, blood, for anyone on any type of public assistance. Someone should have to prove they deserve the use of public money. All a freaking druggie will do is use the public money for drugs.

You are absolutely correct. Supply follows demand.

Life in prison for drug users would be a direct violation of the Eighth Amendment. Prohibition of drugs created the cartels. Regulation in place of prohibition would destroy the cartels as the majority of their profits come from drugs. Anyone who tells you otherwise is an ideological dolt. The US Government created this monster through prohibition and the only way to kill it is to starve it economically. As long as drugs exist (they always will) people will use and abuse them. The idea that you can eliminate demand is a foolish notion. The drug market will always exist, there is nothing that we can do about that short of complete totalitarianism. The real problem stems from who the government chooses to have fill the demand; dealers, thugs, hard core criminals, gangsters, and cartels. If we decriminalize and allow the private sector to supply the demand with extremely tight regulations, the cartels, dealers, and even inner city street gangs will eventually die off. You may not like or agree with this, but facts are facts.

Wow! Lots and lots of additional taxes and government controls in this group of posts. I thought this was a “conservative” site. Oh that’s rights, the taxes and controls are OK if they are only for the other people and not us. I get it. When I come across these types of postings it makes me very happy that I am neither a conservative or a liberal and choose to look at reality. Both groups are just too much in favor of government control. They only differ on what and who is going to be controlled.

As a Phoenix resident, this comes close to home. The Feds continue to sue and harangue the toughest sheriff in the country, because he has the audacity to do the job they refuse to do….jail the intruders…We need to close the border. It’s a sieve. Thanks Beck for speaking the truth…..you seem to be the only one to do so.

Already well known of here Glenn; I live in the border state of AZ, and not much occurs that one can find out about if they wish or bother to do so. DHS is a terror enabling organization under Obama in the way of unsecured border, and the allowing of terrorists and drug cartels no end of freedom to cross.
