Tiger Scouts Ousts Lesbian Den Mother, Parents Rally to her Defense

(The Blaze/AP) The first-graders in Ohio Pack 109‘s Tiger Scouts didn’t know or care their den mother was a lesbian – at least not until the Boy Scouts of America threw her out over the organization’s ban on gays.
Now, parents who were aware of Jennifer Tyrell’s sexual orientation well before she took the boys on campouts and helped them carve race cars for the annual Pinewood Derby have rallied to her defense in a case that has re-ignited the debate over the Scouts’ policy.
“I teach my children to judge people on their actions,” said Rob Dunn, a father in Bridgeport, a village of about 2,000 across the Ohio River from Wheeling, W.Va. “Whether you agree with their lifestyle or not.”
The Boy Scouts of America, whose oath calls for members to be “morally straight,” maintains that as a private organization it has the right to exclude gays and atheists from its ranks.
That stance was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2000 but has led many state and local governments to deny support for the Scouts.
Male scout leaders who are gay have long been barred, but instances of women being excluded are not well-documented and probably rare. A lesbian couple in Vermont were told two years ago that they could no longer be involved with their son’s Scout troop.
Watch Tyrell speak out about the incident at the recent GLAAD awards in Los Angeles:
Because of the policy, Tyrell said she only reluctantly allowed her 7-year-old son to join up in Bridgeport, where she lives with her partner and their four children. Told, she said, by the local cub master that it didn’t matter that she is a lesbian, she was drafted to lead the pack in September.
Tyrell told parents at their first meeting about her sexual orientation. Some already knew her because she had coached youth baseball and volunteered at school, organizing class parties and reading to children.
“She wasn’t trying to hide anything,” said Dunn, whose son is among the dozen or so members of the boys-only pack. “Nobody I know of has ever made a single complaint against her.”
Tyrell said she was removed in April, right after she was asked to take over as treasurer of the local Boy Scout troop – which oversees Tiger Scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts – and she raised questions about the finances.
She said the Boy Scout Council for the region told her she had to resign because she is gay.
“In this case, the policy was understood by her and her fellow volunteers but not followed,” said Deron Smith, a spokesman for the Boy Scouts of America at its headquarters in Irving, Texas. “When a fellow pack leader made a complaint about it, to a local Scouting professional, they followed the policy.”
The organization said it believes Scouting is not the right place for youngsters to be exposed to issues of sexual orientation.
Tyrell said she is not certain who complained, but she felt betrayed.
So did parents, who organized a protest last week outside the church where the pack held its meetings. They demanded Tyrell be reinstated.
Crystal Sabinsky said: “My son asked me last night, `Why did Jen leave? Why is she in trouble?‘ He doesn’t understand.”
“The only people who were hurt were the kids,“ Dunn said ”They‘re asking questions they shouldn’t have to ask at this point.”
Parents of the Tiger Scouts, a program for first-grade boys before they become Cub Scouts, said they
never heard Tyrell mention her sexuality to the children. Club rules require a parent or other adult to accompany each child to every meeting.
“I had no clue she was a lesbian. It doesn’t really make a difference to me,” said Don Thomas, whose grandson is in the pack. “She did a fantastic job, and the kids loved her. You couldn’t ask for a better den leader.”
Gay rights groups have taken up Tyrell’s cause, starting an online petition to get the Scouts to change their policy.
“The extent that people care is amazing,” Tyrell said. “We’re a perfectly normal family. We’re not dangerous. We’re not predators. We’re just normal, everyday people.”

Posted on April 27, 2012 at 1:59amThe rules in the Scouts are completely clear. She knew the rules, and unfortunately, the leaders ahead of her knew the rules and knowingly violated the rules. If any of those leaders are still involved in the organization, they should be removed.
In fact, if the Chartered Organziation knew about the situation, the Charter should be dissolved and the remaining parents can seek a new Chartered Organization.

Gay is all that matters. God is irrelevant. Morality is passe. Kids are nothing more than fodder for “The movement”. And YOU — Y O U — if YOU stand in the way, the forces of gay omnipotence will simply flatten you and leave you a puddle.\

The BSA publishes clear rules and guidelines. All you have to do is follow them and you really can’t go wrong.

Distorting morality to favor an individual or group just causes the gradual reduction of society to a lower level.
Whether homosexuality is viewed as an inherent trait or an anomaly of nature, or, as Michael Savage says, a mental disorder, it has no place among our children.
The fact that this woman was able to adopt a young child, which will likely cause him to engage in perversions, is a crime in and of itself, and it starkly reveals how far this country has degenerated.
The culture war will be won by conservatives by virtue of a collapse of the system….economically at first….and then secession, partition and eventual large scale civil hostilities.
As Glenn said in his GBTV OWS revelation the other day…prepare…prepare…prepare. It’s coming, and it’s not far away.

Posted on April 27, 2012 at 1:35amTheir kids “don’t understand” & are “asking questions they shouldn’t”? About the degenerate behavior? NO! They’re only about why she was kicked out? Did they consider their kids‘ lack of understanding or questions about the degenerate’s sinful lifestyle? This is why degenerates who feel righteous in their being actively gay, alcoholics, drug addicts, pedophiles, etc are forbidden from Scouts. The kids “don’t understand“ and ”ask questions they shouldn’t”.
“We’re a perfectly normal family. We’re not dangerous. We’re not predators.”
Homosexual sex is NOT normal – it’s self-worshipping idolatry. They ARE dangerous because of their compulsion to instigate exactly this type of controversy. They ARE predators because they are forcing their disgusting “CHOICES” onto the minds of children – asserting their “right” to persuade them away from their innocence, traditions, and morals that make scouting a pillar of virtue.
When it comes to activists in defense of their perversions; I don’t do business with them, I don’t befriend them, and I don’t tolerate them around me. I call them out for what they are – degenerate servants of the adversary. If they can make no effort to change then I can make no effort to help them. Even God gives them up and over to a reprobate mind. For these perversions they foist on these kids, it were better that a millstone were hanged about their necks, and that they were drowned in the depth of the sea.

You may PERCEIVE people without your ‘progressive’ lack of morality and common sense is pervasive, but that’s simply because of the world you submerge yourself in. A decent analogy would be: if you are face down in the gutter, it sure does seem like all the world lives in the gutter.
Fortunately, most people live in nice, clean HOUSES, have nice, normal FAMILIES, and live nice, sound LIVES. Further, there is a resurgence underfoot (you, perhaps, have not noticed it from your gutter perch) and the anti-progress your ilk have slimed us with is slowly but surely being pushed back.

The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy (1855–1931), who was a Baptist minister, a Christian socialist, and the cousin of socialist utopian novelist Edward Bellamy (1850–1898). The original “Pledge of Allegiance” was published in the September 8 issue of the popular children’s magazine
Bellamy’s original Pledge read as follows:
I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
The Pledge was supposed to be quick and to the point. Bellamy designed it to be recited in 15 seconds. As a socialist, he had initially also considered using the words equality and fraternity but decided against it – knowing that the state superintendents of education on his committee were against equality for women and African Americans

The policy is not secret, it is applied evenly by the Boy Scouts, and her attempts to muddy the water with her vauge accusations of financial improprieties are just an attempt to distract people form the basic issue: She is openly gay (”Tyrell told parents at their first meeting about her sexual orientation.”), she knew the policy (see her “reluctant” comment above), and she should not be surprised by the decision of Scouting…

The scout oath:
“On my honor, I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and
Morally straight.”
It‘s the ’morally straight’ part that a lot of people have problems with. It implies two things;
1) That there are morals
2) That you know what those morals are.
A Scout (especially an Eagle) knows how to respect people, but he knows there are rules of behavior expected.
If you don’t like the rules, don’t participate.

Anyway…”The Scouts have gone off the deep end with their bigoted idiotic anti gay stance.”
It is not a “stance” it is a moral imperative – like honesty. By definition you must find the God to be bigoted and idsiotic. Also, thier moral imperative is not “anti gay” it is pro virtue. It is not the BSA’s fault that some people are missing cetain virtues.

There is way more involved than simply doing tasks well.
Leaders of any children’s group are, like it or not, role models. Who the he!! wants their little innocent “role modeled” into homosexuality?????????????

Posted on April 27, 2012 at 12:34amI agree with @Godlovinmom on one thing, if these parents don’t care, then she should lead a group for these kids, but as a private organization, BOA should be able to have whatever rules they like. This community could form a scout group not affliated with the BOA. More power to ‘em.

Posted on April 27, 2012 at 1:11amBeen tried repeatedly, fails every time.
Boy Scouts is designed to prepare boys for adulthood, assuming responsibility and being leaders. “Alternative” scouting groups just sit around and marvel at their inclusiveness, and when the novelty wears off, so does their interest in the group.
Who wants to join a group whose sole purpose for existing is to include homosexual scouts/leaders?

Why don’t we just give in to their agenda, gay is normal, staight is wrong, do what feel good and God is dead.
And the minstels rejoiced….Yaaaahhh.
By the way, I must admit to being a lesbian, trapped in a mans body.

Posted on April 27, 2012 at 12:36amThat is not the point. Certain they are an absolute pleasure to be around. Regardless, to have a person living a life that is in direct conflict with what God has said cannot lead children in an organization that is obedient to God’s rules.
Not sure why this is so hard to understand.
An atheist would not be a good leader either as they deny God’s existence. This person denies God’s law. Does not add up if the organization is about God.
And to make exceptions is wrong, as that compromises the whole reason for the Boy Scouts.

Posted on April 27, 2012 at 1:14amI don’t think they regard their homosexuality as a “choice”, but I could be wrong, I don’t know your six gay friends.
If you have sat down and counted the number of gay friends you have, you may not be as open-mided or accepting as you think you are – really open-minded people have friends, nor “gay” friends or “black” friends, and keeping a running tally makes me think it’s important to you to APPEAR to be open and accepting rather than simply being open and accepting…

You or any one else has no clue as to what God has “said”. You only know what other mere mortals have told you. The truth is far from anything you have been told. What two or more people do in private is their business. How can so many of you claim to follow the teaching of Jesus and yet be so JUDGEMENTAL. How dare you judge the entire person based on one trait or part of who they are. You are the reason I and millions of no longer go to church. The purpose of church has long been lost. Now it is just another “club” to belong to.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you! Treat NO ONE any differnt than you wish to be treated!!!!!!!!

Posted on April 27, 2012 at 3:39pmSnake relax. Go to the third page and read my post about judging. Read Matthew 6 & 7.
I believe the bible teaches that homosexuality is a sin. So I don‘t have to acccept someone’s **** lifestyle. But just because I consider it a sin does not mean I can’t use the golden rule for them. I do treat them as I would want to be treated. I don’t spit on them or call them names or be mean to them. I work with some. I just don’t hang out with them. And they don’t want to hang out with me. We are using the golden rule.
I am allowed to choose my friends and not necessarily be “judgemental” as you think it means. Just like I don’t like hanging out with alcoholics who are always drunk, or young people who only want to party and smoke pot, or 50 yr old nerds playing dungeons and dragons. I am allowed to choose who I want to be friends with.

Not anywhere in what I wrote did I meantion you could not pick your friends. You took what I said out of context and turned it into something totally different. The bible has many many writings all from man, not God. Not to mention the volumes of writings that have been left out over the years as it gets re-writen over and over to suit the churches needs to continue control. Maybe you should read some of those writings left out before making more judgments. They are filled with very interesting information, but since they contridict “todays” church, they are simply ignored. Ignorance is bliss.
As I said, NO ONE knows what God said, only man has writen any words! All bibles are nothing but a construct of man. No one knows the truth about God becasue God is an unknown. Show me proof of where I am wrong.

Posted on April 27, 2012 at 2:21pmHi Godlovinmom: The mission of Boy Scouts is designed to teach skills, character, and morals. The structure of the organization is designed so that these things are taught from the top and it runs all the way down to the leaders of the packs and dens. It is a private organization that originated 101 years ago and as a private organization in the U.S., it has the right to make its own rules. The idea of having a den doing its own thing (not following the BSA rules) in some corner of the U.S. runs counter to the strong structure and intent of the Boy Scouts. Moreover, it is blatantly disrespectful for parents and leaders of such a group to do so. They were demonstrating poor character for their children in this case: How to lie just so that your desires are satisfied, disrespect for other people and rules of an organization, and so on.
My family lives in Canada temporarily (we also homeschool, by the way). My boys were members of BSA before we moved here. Canadians have many great qualities, but many of them (if not most) are push-overs when it comes to politically correct issues. Scouts of Canada faced the homosexual issue soon after BSA had their day in the Supreme Court several years ago. Scouts of Canada folded to the pressure and now are an “inclusive group”-including everyone that wants to join (homosexuals, girls, transwhatever). Because of this, Canadian Scout numbers have dropped dramatically and they have had to sell off beautiful camps and land just to surv

Posted on April 27, 2012 at 2:30pmWoops, got carried away. Anyway, The Scouts of Canada has had to sell of major assets because their membership has dwindled so much. It’s a lesson for the Boy Scouts of America-when one compromises one’s core values, one loses that which makes one great.
