Close Call! Tightrope Walker Nearly Falls While Attempting to Cross Wire 300 Feet in the Air

Do you have any dangerous hobbies? Motorcycling, mountain climbing, maybe deep sea diving?

This video from ITN News shows a tightrope walker in China falling while attempting to cross a wire suspended 300 feet in the air between two hot air balloons…with no net:

Luckily he hangs on!

Sky News:

Strong winds left Saimaiti Aishan dramatically clinging on to the 15m-long steel wire in front of stunned onlookers in China’s Hunan Province.

The wire was attached to two hot air balloons – which were affected by the wind force and direction.

After successfully walking across the wire at 30m in just five minutes, Saimaiti took on the 100m challenge.

But the balloons slowly fell down to the ground and Saimaiti Aishan failed the challenge.

The only way he could have fallen was to cut the line that was preventing him from a real fall.

Don’t think it was a staged fall, but he gets disqualified anyway for using a wussie-rope,,

The Wallenda family is still performing without a net or safety lines. This is just a stunt, including the “fall” for dramatic effect. He never really was at risk. Cheesy.

Reminds me a bit of our current situation. Always good to have a safety wire. (savings, food, ammo)

Safety wire or no safety wire i would bet nobody here could do that… not that anybody here would want to do that or even prove they could do that. What would have made the event more humorous (if this could ever be the case with somebody dangling 100 meters in the air would have been if two birds landed on his balance pole right before he fell.

Hats off to him. He’s got some large pair if I may say so.

He pulled a spare pole out of his pocket. Or, possibly from someone in one of the balloons? Maybe the second pole was photoshopped. Wait..the second pole came from the grassy knoll!

Al Gore was there and he sent a ‘Pol’ar Bear up the side w/ a new pole from ‘Pol’and, it was all very ‘pol’itical of course but since it was ‘pol’arized he was able to pole vault up a new pole that had not been polluted from all the poultry who of course are very polite.

It looks like he caught the wire himself, never dangling from the safety wire, so I’d count it good. I’m glad he had a safety wire, I don’t need to see the video of him crashing to the ground. But even so, even though he fell off, he caught the wire and got himself back up, I count that as a success!
