‘I Truly Believe in My Own Mind That Things Have Happened to Me’: ‘America’s Got Talent’ Contestant Bares Soul on Local Talk Show

Either Timothy Poe is a sociopathic liar, or he really does believe things that are demonstrably false. At least, that’s the only takeaway one can get from the “America’s Got Talent” contestant‘s appearance on Joe Pagliarulo’s show today. Poe, who has sparked controversy after getting caught in an apparent lie on the Talent show, and apologized for what he calls “incomplete facts,” says he really remembers things the way he said they happened originally…even if the memories are wrong:

“I truly believe in my own mind that things have happened to me,” Poe said. “I honestly don’t remember everything and now that, you know, everything’s coming out, I just remember, you know, having a blast go off by me, and I remember being in the [vehicle] and saying, ‘Hey, a grenade went off by me,’ and then the next thing I remember, I was in Germany. I don’t even remember going to the Airbase. Apparently I had gone there before I went to Germany.”

Poe continued, “I don’t know. I see things in my mind of what happened, and now…”

Pagliarulo interceded, “Is there some confusion in your mind about how you got injured?”

“Yes, sir,” Poe responded. “I truly believe what I said. And I put tattoos on my arms, and over the last two years, I’ve been telling everybody, and not one time did anybody try to correct me.”

So is Poe trying to get more pity as a veteran so shellshocked he can’t even remember the truth, or is he being genuine? You can listen to the deeply awkward interview here and judge for yourself:

    Served one month in Krapistan, then sent home w/an ear infection. No purple heart. No record of speech therapy. Sang in a band for 6 years (yet claimed he never sang before mythical speech therapist directed him to). He’s a fa fa fa fa fraud.

    You people on here are like a pack of wild hyenas going after a ground hog. I see that he isn’t a liar but made a mistake in remembering things wrong…but that doesn’t make him a liar. We’ve all made mistakes in remembering things wrong in our lives…but does that make us a liar? Look up the definition of the word liar. Do you really know for sure that he was lying or was he just remembering things wrong. I sure hope that everyone on here who is calling this guy a liar sure doesn’t have people call you a liar and tear you apart…like you’ve done this young man. I hope that he gets a good psychologist who will help clarify his memories.

      Agreed! This guy is bawling he is so remorseful. I don’t hold this against him. Who here has never made a mistake? Like you said, I just hope he gets the help he needs, just for his own peace of mind.

      So then he’s “remembering wrong”:
      earning medals such as the Purple Heart and Bronze Star
      that he learned he could sing when a speech therapist advised him to try it to help his stutter.

      That a photograph of a soldier in fatigues and holding a gun,he submitted to AGT,turned out to not be him. The actual soldier in the photo, Norman Boone, came forward to call out Poe and inform officials that the AGT contestant actually snagged the photo from the U.S. Department of Defense website.

      The photo in question was originally posted on the U.S. Department of Defense website, with the caption, “U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Norman Bone directs movement as his patrol turns around on a narrow path in the mountains of Parwan province in Afghanistan on Oct. 25, 2006.”

    I had no idea of who this kid is or his claim. I’ve spent the last 35 yrs interviewing subjects trying to give an account of the truth. Most have been in crisis to one degree or an other. This kid is in trouble. His delivery, his breathing, his emotion, everything about this shows me he’s in Real trouble. As a Crisis Negotiator, I would be concerned that this is going to end fairly soon, with him being gone. One out of six people in the U.S. will develope some sort of mental illness in their life. If you read the comments, you can see that. Without professional help, things will get worse for him. I hope those that truly love him stay close to him. If he has talent, good for him. If he signed up to take the risk for the rest of us… Thank you Brother. We owe you. You paid it forward for the mental health services you need now. We have your back.

      I am sure you have heard joe pags? The guy is one of the most irritating radio people ever! He tries to talk so fast and stutters and walks over himself so much that it sounds like fingernails on a chalk board. Poe should have been interviewed by someone else if he wanted to get anywhere.

      After reading several articles about the numerous death threats he’s receiving, I understand why Pags did the interview. Pags has a big heart when it comes to our military and he wanted to give the man a chance to tell his side of the story.

      Timothy did in fact serve his country and was given an honorable discharge. However, he’s obviously suffering from mental illness and delusions. People need to quit threatening him, leave him alone, and get him the help he needs.

    Never seen the show, don’t know this guy or the story for it to become an article. And being that I’m not a doctor, I’m not going to make an assumption that could prove to be false about somebody who may not be sure of what happened exactly.

    But I will say this much. Think about people who have fell into a diabetic coma. Many of them have said they can’t remember what they did previously, before waking up in the hospital. And some of those people did some rather bizarre things to say the least.

    So whatever happened, I hope he finds out the truth.

He truly believes these things happened to him and I believe I‘m a billionaire yet I don’t fly in a private jet or live in a multi million dollar mansion on my island ! He’s insane.

    Good interview, I hope he’s at least truthful about this one..
    As an 18 year veteran of the US Army, I was a tad upset when I heard this, I wondered why, how, could anyone do this? Hell, I served, I wasn‘t a ’war hero’ but I did my job, and I was proud of that, still am..
    I guess I just don‘t understand an individual needs to be a ’hero’ to the point of self destuction.. I served with a LOT of heros, some of which never saw combat, but they all served.. That’s honor..

    Perhaps Tim needs help.. perhaps this is just more of a story.. who knows..
    Kid has talent, too bad he didn’t just go on and sing..

I served, I do not consider myself any sort of hero, nor would I even tell of anything that happened to me to make people think I was one in any way. The men I served with, I consider heroes, as for me, I do not and will not look at myself than anymore than a man who did his job. That is the way real men think of themselves. Humble, lowly and truthful, not stealing accolades for something you didnt even do. Pure EVIL! And a slap in the face of all Military men. What a puke!

    I would love to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, but his story doesn’t pass the smell test. Simply being a veteran is a wonderful thing. You raised your hand, took an oath, and promised to give your life, if need be, on behalf of the Constitution of the United States. Congratulations! You are in the 98th percentile of Americans. There is absolutely no reason to embellish, mislead, exaggerate, or lie about your service. I’m not out to crucify this guy. He’ll be vetted and excoriated accordingly. I can’t help but to feel sad for him. He has a wonderful voice. He served. The round of applause he received on the show would’ve happened whether or not he had told a tall tale about heroism.

    I don’t know why these “false heros” come out and embellish their military careers. We were taught, or at least I was taught, to be proud of who you are and don’t try to be someone or something your not. I guess it’s different now, it’s not like he would arrested, even if he was burning the flag, smoking weed he lit off that flag, sacrificing a goat in the name of satan, using his dead combat buddy’s names to vote for a socialist, all the while cashing in on his fracudetulant wounded warrior benefits. Times have changed in society my friends, for the worst.

Did you know he claims to have been awarded; the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge (CIB), Purple Heart and Air Assault Badge, among others? Poe’s MOS was as I can tell a supply Sgt. You could charge the enemy like Audie Murphy killing 100′s of enemy and still not earn a CIB and Air Assault Badge. Yup….he’s a phony.

      Without going into detail I earned a couple of those awards 67-68 the hard way and I assure you if I ever run into this guy he’ll have a real stutter and a limp to go along with it!!

      To people reading this post – be on guard and slightly suspicious of the person that displays medals from waist to shoulder and tells tails of his heroic exploits…..especially Medal of Honor, POW’s, SEALs, Green Beret etc. Real hero‘s don’t brag, either by appearance or by word.
