Tim Tebow Draws More Than 20,000 for Father’s Day Church Event

Tim Tebow drew an enormous crowd to San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium Sunday, where he spoke as part of Shadow Mountain Community Church’s sermon on “encouraging men to live, love & lead.”

“If there’s anybody in our country today who illustrates what it means to live with passion and break the mold, and to rise above what everybody says are your limitations, it’s Tim Tebow,” Shadow Mountain spokesman David St. John told the North County Times.

“He did that as a quarterback in Florida, he did that in the NFL with the Denver Broncos, and I certainly wouldn’t want to be in the camp that bets against him as he continues his career with the Jets. There are a lot of folks who will be sitting in the bleachers on Sunday who have been given the same kind of message — either, ‘You’re not talented enough’ or ‘You’re not capable of leading.’”

NBC Sports has more details:

The Jets backup quarterback drew a crowd of 26,000 to Qualcomm Stadium, and told the Father’s Day crowd he wanted to be viewed as more than an athlete.

“One of the most frustrating things – and last time I said it, I got a lot of flak for it, but it doesn’t bother me too much. There are a lot of role models. There just aren’t a lot of good ones,” Tebow said, according to U-T San Diego. “If we would come together and be great role models, it would be amazing to see how the next generation turns out.”

Tebow spoke for 35 minutes with the pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, talking about role models and whether Christians can also be “real men.”

He’s never backed away from that side of the equation, speaking openly about his responsibilities as a public figure.

And whether Tedy Bruschi likes it or not, or whether you agree with his public pronouncements of faith, arguing in favor of setting a good example for young people is admirable. And it’s also part of what makes Tebow so popular with a large swath of America that doesn’t care a thing about his passer rating.

Here is amateur video of the speech via YouTube:

Pastor David Jeremiah said of Tebow: “Tim is the kinda guy who not only says what he means but he lives what he means…We spent a little time last night with my grandson and to have a hero like that in this day in age is pretty rare.”

Some fans say they got up at 4 o’clock in the morning to see the sermon, while others talked about the man’s football career.  “I did pray for him when I heard he was going to the Jets.  I set football aside for that,” Chargers fan Edward Walker said.

Another told NFL Network: “I haven’t gone to church in a while. So this brought me back.”

And how sad is THAT, really? They would rather rally behind some degenerate like the dog killer, Vic whats his name. I even wonder if Tewbow will be allowed to play football or if they will hold him back.

I loved it when high wire walker Nik Wallenda got down on one knee and thanked the Lord, while walking the rope over Niagara Falls.
Tim and Nik are both great role models.

Wish Tim had not been traded off to New York.
He‘s a Christian who has been thrown into the lion’s den.
God, please watch over and protect Tim.

Charles Barkley is the one famous for saying he is not a role model—What a crock. What a copout.

When Barkley was at Auburn, he was an outspoken Christian. I worked with 16 boys near Auburn, 8 black and 8 white. A pastor arranged for those boys and me to get tickets to an Auburn vs. Tenn. game, and for Barkley to speak to them at a student union room after the game.

Barkley talked to the boys about Christ, and it had an impact on them. One of the black youngsters came to Christ shortly afterward.

I have thought about those boys all these years, knowing they too have heard of all Barkley’s cursing on air, getting caught with hookers, etc. I guess the money and fame revealed the real Barkley.

Don’t kid yourself Charles. You ARE a role model, just a bad one—a really bad one.

“And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

Pontiac, and you’re an expert on Christianity how? You’re a bigoted anti-Christian, who if you had a god, you‘d pray for every Christian’s death. You‘re sick and you’re no American I care to know.

Mr Pontiac, below, seems to be implying that Christians should hide their faith and never be seen praising God. How like a liberal! Did you ever read the WHOLE Bible (of course not); because if you did, you would know that the early Christians converted the whole civilized world to Christianity just by witnessing as Tebow does. Praising God and speaking his truth in the streets. Tebow does not have personal gain from his openly religious stance, far from it. Haters like you are everywhere, trying to tear him down. Even in his career, he brought his team ti the brink of the Superbowl and they make him back-up to a much worse player.

      To Do List:
Post scripture that will make superficial christians rage. ☑
Don’t bother reading their predictably inane replies. ☑
Make them rage more when their efforts were for not. ◻

Go on, pound some more “stupid” out on the keyboard. Pound on it with your head if you like. Probably just as effective.

He recieved a huge ovation when he said “If we would come together…it would be amazing how the next generation turns out.” I was able to say I was one of the 26K, and was very impressed by his comment that, “I’m not a football player that is a Christian, I’m a Christian who just happens to play football.” Thank you Lord Jesus for a man’s man like Tim Tebow. We Christians need more role models like him no matter what our age is.
