Time-Lapsed Video of Mongolian Nomads Building ‘Instant House’

As the word nomad implies, they are a people that won’t be stopping in one place for a long period of time. But like all humans, still need shelter from the elements.

Enter the ger –pronounced gair according to producer Dan Grossman. A ger is an easily transportable and quick to set-up mobile home.

Watch as Mongolian nomads put up the ger in this time-lapsed video:

According to Grossman’s description on YouTube, the ger — the Russian version of which is called a Yurt — was moved by the family to Lake Hovsgol near the Russian border in Mongolia. The whole process takes the family a little more than an hour, but Grossman brings it to you in just over two minutes in his film “The Nomad’s Ger: Mongolia’s Instant House”.

How bout we donate a number of thses units to the Occupy Marxist and and suggest that they try forming their communistic enclaves in say Siberia, Venezuala, N.Korea or any country that they would like to emulate. Maybe Mexico.

You know I can tell they were democrats? They took the big box to stand on to secure the canopy through the little door AFTER the wall/ceiling supports were already up. It looks like the took the rest of the supplies in through the little door after it was completed as well.

Like a guy building a car/boat in his basement.

I love camping, and these people are far from Democrats. They depend on each other to make their own way in this world and prosper according to their beliefs and way of life which has been around for hundreds of years longer than our great country. They rely upon no one, and ask for nothing. You’re a knucklehead. I wish more people in this country had those self sustaining beliefs.

Yurts are good alternative housing. A lot of the state parks are using them also. If interested take a peek at some of these……http://blueridgeyurts.com/

Hmm….I bet one of these houses would drive an OWS hippie crazy, since he would be frantically running around trying to find a corner of the room he could pee in.

My friend owns a large Ger. he’s married to a Mongolian woman. I’ve set the thing up and camped in it before. It’s very strong, and there are no center poles like in a pavillion, and it’s extremely spacious.

Maybe you can tell me? How do they make sure a really strong wind won’t get under the thing and lift it? Maybe I missed it in the time lapse, but it looked like they didn’t stake the thing down.

What is funny about all that, if you attempted to live in such a place in the US, you would get fined and arrested in the US for code violations. Now, if the government wants to build for say the homeless, they are allowed to bypass the codes. Look at Fresno California, they built a bunch of huts for the homeless there and they were allowed to bypass all codes.

The codes in building even include how many square feet of windows you must have. California is still working on mandating fire suppression systems in older homes. If they come up for sale, you will have to retrofit the home. I do not know if that has gone through yet. All being forced through by…………..Fire departments and the related fire suppression industry. But hey, you might be able to get your house for $450k for a 1000 sq ft!

These Yurts are amazing. You can buy them prefab and set them up anywhere. They’re really very roomy. For about 30 grand, they come complete with bathroom and kitchen, as rustic and basic, or as modern as you like. They use them in the arctic because they can be easily insulted AND they can avoid almost all building regulations because they are totally mobile. The perfect Prepper abode.

And they hold up how well to bears? I’ll stick to my brick house thank you. Liberals love these things. Go ahead… if you’re a liberal move into one, out in the woods, with the Grizzlies and black bears…. don’t worry, guns are dangerous, you don’t want to keep a gun around your kurt, someone could get hurt in your kurt.

BFD! With that many people helping, I could get a 12 man tent up in half the time and it would be more comfortable and safer for all. Perhaps we couldn’t cook within it, but we could hook up a generator and be heated and playing video games in an hour or less.
