TIME’s Joe Klein: Iowans Like Ron Paul Because He Doesn’t Want to ‘Send Americans Kids Off to War, Yet Again, to Fight For Israel’

TIME’s left-leaning political columnist Joe Klein suggests that Iowans like GOP presidential contender Ron Paul because, unlike “Iran warhawks,“ Paul will not ”send American kids off to war, yet again, to fight for Israel’s national security.”
“It’s one thing to just adore Israel, as the evangelical Christians do; it’s another thing entirely to send American kids off to war, yet again, to fight for Israel’s national security.” Klein wrote in his “In the Arena” column.
Below are some of Klein’s observations on what is happening in Iowa:
1. the power of television advertising is reasserting itself. Gingrich is getting killed on the air, ruining the prevailing media narrative–that this campaign was all about debates. It was, when no one was advertising. Now, it’s about debates and paid media…and soon, it’ll be about organization.
2. Iowa Republicans are not neoconservatives. Ron Paul has gained ground after a debate in which his refusal to join the Iran warhawks was front and center. Indeed, in my travels around the country, I don’t meet many neoconservatives outside of Washington and New York. It’s one thing to just adore Israel, as the evangelical Christians do; it’s another thing entirely to send American kids off to war, yet again, to fight for Israel’s national security.
When Klein says “yet again,” in which war, exactly, is he suggesting that American “kids” were sent off to fight for the nation’s ally Israel? And if Iran does successfully develop nuclear weapons, as it is dangerously close to achieving, does Klein suggest that this is only Israel’s problem, and not an equally serious threat to U.S. interests both at home and abroad?

But no matter. We will defeat the War Party, which is hated by ordinary Americans: we will beat and humiliate the regnant elites who think they can dictate the boundaries of the political discourse. Let the media loosen its cannons on their target and do their best to slime a near saintly man, whose gentleness and sincerity is a visible presence on that debate stage – and a stark contrast to the sleazy shifty-eyed Gingrich, the thousand-mile stare of Bachmann, and the palpable insincerity of the robotic Romney. The more the mainstream media attacks Paul, the more the Republican electorate – as well as Americans of all political stripes – will rally to his cause. We shall overcome.”

Posted on December 21, 2011 at 2:33pmAnd this is really the reason for his “popularity” isn’t it. Where all Jew hating, anti-Semitic, individuals can flock to and happily express their hatred behind their support of an admitted anti-Semite. A Ron Paul presidency would destabilize the Middle East and would bring all out war to the area. And would force Israel, fighting for their very survival, to use Nuclear weapons. Don’t ever underestimate the seething HATRED some have for Israel and the Jews. America has many of them but Europe is infested with them. Never, ever, underestimate this hatred for it is ancient and virulent.

Posted on December 22, 2011 at 11:54amIsrael is a great ally, but they have said time and again that they can defend themselves. Yes, they appreciate our support, but we do not need to have a parent relationship with them.
Lets remember that there is a difference between the Israeli people and the Government of Israel. Yes, the Government of Israel is the most Western-style in the Middle East, but it is not without its flaws too.
Did you know?:
Rights for sexual minorities in Israel are considered to be the most tolerant in the Middle East. While Israel has not legalized same-sex marriage, same-sex marriages valid in foreign countries are legally recognized in Israel.[60][61][dead link] Israel guarantees civil rights for its homosexual population, including adoption rights and partner benefits.[62] Israel also grants a common-law marriage status for same-sex domestic partners.
During the second Intifada, the UN Commission on Human Rights reported “widespread, systematic and gross violations of human rights perpetrated by the Israeli occupying Power, in particular mass killings and collective punishments, such as demolition of houses and closure of the Palestinian territories, measures which constitute war crimes, flagrant violations of international humanitarian law and crimes against humanity.
The State of Israel: Anointed by God or was created by man?
Support Israelis with your whole heart, but hold the Government of Israel to a higher standard and not with blind trust.

Posted on December 21, 2011 at 1:15pmIt’s a simple as this.
Let’s say the military is your offensive line, and the American people are the quarterback.
If you have your men spread out ALL over the field, your quarterback is going to get SACKED.
Ron Paul wants to bring the troops home and form a PERIMETER DEFENSE around THIS nation and ITS territorial waters, with a few strategic outposts, submarines and carriers.
That is why he receives more donations from active duty military than ALL of the other clowns combined. Even more than Ohmamma.
We are BANKRUPT and can’t afford to maintain over 900 bases in over 130 countries. We’re borrowing 43 cents out of EVERY dollar, to continue something that is unsustainable.
We have the technology to protect this Nation, but they leave the borders wide open. It is criminal.

Saying a nuclear Iran poses a threat to US security is nonsense. Iranian nuclear capabilities affect only Israel.
Klein and Ron Paul are right. The US’s expenditure of American lives and treasure benefits only Israel.
There’s a TREMENDOUS number of people in this country who are sick and tired of being lied to by the power mongers in Washington in order to take us to war.
The number of lost lives and those maimed was totally unnecessary, and it was the Bush/Rove/Chenby neo-cons who caused it all to happen.
Bring the troops home and put them on the southern border to protect THIS country.

Posted on December 22, 2011 at 1:55amThe reason we have had so few attacks on our soil is because we take the fight to the enemy, not the RP method of allowing them to come here and do their deed. How about the UN do their job and be the free world police? If the UN did the job they are designed to do we wouldn’t have to. You think our pulling out of the middle eastern area is going to have peace reign down on the whole world? No, it will start at Israel, then instantly move into the terrorist cells in Europe. Remember, most of Europe was part of the Caliphate, thus it is a simple matter of purging the non-muslims and take back their property. Why does everyone think there are muslim colonies within all these other countries in Europe wanting their own laws, rules, and lack of acclimation to the coutry lifestyles they go to? All they are doing is pre-staging and building their supply lines. Break out the nukes and whether they realize it or not, it will force WWIII and a scorched earth policy. Joe Klein in a moron at best.

That said, it is utterly foolish for any American politician to promise to “stand with Israel” no matter what any Israeli government, any time, may decide to do. Yet that is what all Republicans imply they would, with the exception of Paul.

No, Iran getting a nuclear weapon is *not* a threat to U.S. interests anywhere. They don’t have the capabilities to use a nuclear weapon on us if they had one, they are not going to use a nuclear weapon on a neighbor when the fallout would immediately blow back on themselves, not to mention that Israel would immediately respond with one of their own 200-300 nuclear weapons. We spent 40 years with thousands of USSR nukes pointed at us and didn’t go to war. If Israel thinks Iran is a threat, let them take out Iran’s facilities. I’m a Christian, I‘m for Israel’s existence, but bombing innocent women and children in Iran to prevent some hypothetical threat is absolutely unethical and unChristian.
