Tiny Dog Dies After Being ‘Scared to Death’ by Rottweilers

Being “scared to death” is usually just a hyperbolic phrase. But for one tiny dog in Long Island, NY, it became a horrifying reality.
In March, Patty Meisoll was walking her 10-pound Chihuahua, Grover. When she and Grover walked past a pair of fenced-in Rottweilers, all hell broke loose.
“Suddenly, the fence literally bowed over, like a wave — and the dogs came with it,” Meisoll told The New York Post.
“I couldn’t see him, but I could hear him — he was screaming. I tried pulling one of the dogs off but they wouldn’t move. They started coming at me. I started screaming for help,” she added.
Just 90 minutes later, Grover died. Cause of death, the veterinarian said, was a heart attack. He was literally “scared to death:”
Meisoll has now filed a lawsuit against the attacking dogs’ owners.

Border Collies are awesome dogs! I have a BC/GS mix, but she favors the collie in her actions and demeanor. She is the best watch dog I have ever had, with an Aussie Shep in second place.
Report Post »‘Missy’ is getting up there in age and we are considering getting another BC puppy so Missy could train her in her territorial ways, before she gets too old and tired.
I also have an American Staffordshire Terrier (pitbull) and she has her place as a guard dog as well. Missy is the real thing and Bumble (see avatar) keeps people away by the sight of her alone. I once had a Mexican landscaper come to the door trying to drum up business, and once he saw Bumble look through the blinds at him, he turned tail and ran back to his truck. :) But she is such a baby. If he had only said ‘boo’, Bumble would have turned and ran.
All that being said, I don’t consider BCs to be small dogs, like chihuahuas are. Which is a good thing! As a female, when a large man walks a small dog, I get the same image as if the man was wearing a speedo. It just doesn’t fit! lol! I love a man to have a caring and tender side, to have a heart for those who are needy and cannot help themselves (children, elderly, baby squirrels or rabbits), like my husband is. But… if he told me he wanted to get a Chihuahua or a Yorkie, I wouldn’t be able to stand it! :)

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 1:44pmBrings to mind a story about a neighbor who had 2 of the friendliest pits you could want. One of them left the yard for 20 seconds, and saw a neighbor walking down the sidewalk. The pit went and jumped up to put her paws on her chest just to say hello, and accidentally scratched her and tore her shirt. The owner of the dog took her in, paid for the shirt, made sure the lady was ok, and later, yet a NOTHER neighbor (who was NOT involved in any of this!) called animal control ,who arrived and issued a $600 ticket for the physical contact, and $1000 for the animal having gotten loose. All on someone elses sayso. The victim had already been compensated for her torn shirt and did not claim any injury.
Report Post »The owner decided to put the dog down because no one wanted her and she was costing him too much money in the end.

Bruce really changed my heart about the tiny breeds, they don’t have a clue that they are to small to rule-just“ask” Frank the german shepherd he lives with. They are wonderfull companions and that is what dog’s lives are about. They have jobs, and fill holes in lonely and broken hearts. I am always amazed at what they can be taught to help us human beings, and God certainly understands how much they come to mean to us. After all, He sees a sparrow fall. Posted on May 24, 2011 at 2:11pmI did come home one time from some pistol shooting with some friends when I found my son backed up to the garage trying to keep 2 german shepherds away from. The lady across the road raised them and had several complaints about her dogs not letting people out of their cars, killing cats, and attacking smaller dogs. She pretty much blew off the complaints and told the other people that they needed to keep their pets locked up even though they were in their own yards. I shot both of them and drug their bodies across the road and dumped them in their owner’s yard. She came out screaming at me an called the police. When they arrived I told them what happened. They were aware of previous complaints, we were outside the city limits, and the woman admitted that the dogs were on my property. She kept saying that if my son had just stood still or had gone into the house they probably wouldn’t have hurt him. At any rate I was not charged or ticketed but the lady was warned to keep control of her animals. We never had a problem with any of her other dogs again. Control your animals and don‘t whine about the results when you don’t. You are responsible for them.

I used to be a “dog catcher” years ago and it was better for her not to have picked up the dog. Likely if she had done that then the dogs probably would have tried to or succeeded in going through her to get to it. Then there would have been more injury than just to the Chihuahua. I picked him up and yelled at the dog and he jumped on me while the owner sat across the street in a lawnchair laughing and saying the dog was after my sons flashlight. Posted on May 24, 2011 at 1:20pmHey Betsy, what if it was a kid? The dogs would have licked the kid? This rat people call a dog was not bitten and neither was it’s owner. Probably a congenital defect with the dog. I’ve known lots of Rottweilers and very few Chihuahuas and have never been bitten by a Rottey, but I have been bitten by Chihuahuas. Plus 10 lbs for a Chihuahua is huge, probably obese, besides Chihuahuas are a liberal’s type of animal so good riddance.

Report Post »perhaps my post was not clear enough. The dog walker and her charge were not at fault here. And if it had been a kid, the kid PROBABLY would grow up with a fear of dogs that wasn’t there before. It’s irrelevant that there was no direct harm done. If your dogs are behind a FENCE, you should probably try to make sure they stay that way – BEHIND A FENCE. There was obviously a reason why they were behind the fence.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 1:58pmA small dog dies as a result of being attacked by 2 larger dogs, even if it was not bitten. Somehow some of you are taking that as a reason to attack the small dog. To you the victim is at fault. The owner of the Rottweilers is responsible. The fence was not sufficient to stop their dogs and they attacked another animal. I have spent most of my life owning either dobermans or labs. Now through happenstance I find myself owning some cats. I loved my dogs while they live and I now love my cats. To me they are part of my family. I am not blowing hot air when I say if one of my cats died because of negligence on the part of the owner of a large animal I would kill it. If I didn’t get the chance to do it for a year, I would kill it. I would also be very tempted to kill the owner since ultimately they are the responsible ones. Since that is more or less out of the question, I would then go the route to make their lives as miserable as possible. A law suet that hopefully bleed them dry would works for me. I am the first to admit that I am a vindictive person who strongly believes in payback. Those who seem to think that a small animal has less of a right to live then a large one make me sick. I am sure the sound of that woman’s pet screaming will stay with her for a long time. Go for it lady, an eye for eye is bull, take the whole head.

You think your a tough guy because your big? Let me tell you somthing. Just becaue your “big” doesnt mean your a skilled combatant. The bigger you are the harder you hit the ground. Believe me, I know. I have spent all my life going up against you so called “big boys” wit your big egos. Big aint “BAD”. And just because someone chooses to use big dogs for security and intimidation, doesnt mean they have an inferiority complex. All dogs are companions or tools to be used for those purposes.
Sounds like you have been living your life, thinking your tough when you probably haven’t been in real “life threatening” hand to hand combat in your life. Most big guys rely on reputation and ,just like rottweilers, intimidation. When in reality, they are scared just like the rest and get hurt and feel pain just like the rest of us. As slow and uncoordinated as a lot of “big” guys are, I am suprised “anyone” is intimidated by you. I’ll tell you somthing there “big man”, I can teach a 90 pound 4′11″ woman to take you out with out even breaking a sweat. so don’t let your big ass over ride your bigger ego there, you might find yourself lying on your back with some smaller man monkey stomping your head in someday. Just a tip. so…hows that for an inferiority complex? As for the smaller endowments…well just because your “big” head is large, doesnt mean your other one is…

I‘m saying that I don’t think for a second that the owners of the rotties knew the fence would come down. I have had homes with chain link fencing and I would never guess that it would fold under the weight of two dogs. Maybe the fence was improperly installed, if so, not the owners fault since they probably didn’t know. Were the owners supposed to run a truck into the fence to see how hard they could hit it before it collapsed?

Ever notice why the big guys have small dogs? We don’t have something to prove. I’m sorry for all the little men on here. Hopefully someday you won’t be so self-concious.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 1:24pmCouldn’t care less? Wow, what an arse. Too bad for you and your hardened heart. I was holding my poodle one day when the dog next door (huge German Shepard) jumped the fence and came after us. I had to kick the damn thing in the ribs to make it stop attacking—it’s owner was standing next to me and she did NOTHING. This dog wasn’t after me, it was trying to get my dog and in the process of me trying to protect her, I got scratched up pretty bad.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 1:42pmRottweilers need to be socialized. My 15 month old Rottweiler pictured here has her AKC CGC canine good citizen and therapy dog certifications. She always has a friendly submissive look on her face. Dogs 101 on animal planet did a good job describing Rottweilers. Its a tale of two dogs. Unsocialized they can be very aggressive, but a socialized Rottweiler makes a great family dog and will absolutely love kids.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 2:22pmOH! Lemming, you cut me to the quick!
Insulting people really is not the best way to have a conversation. You jumped in on this story to say you are a big biker dude with a little dog trying to imply that you are big in the pants and also implying that anyone who prefers a dog that they can hike with or hunt with or that will protect their homes and families is somehow trying to cover some physical shortcoming. I have big dogs and although I am not a man, I take it as an invitation to confront you about the fact that,
A) You feel it necessary to insult large dog owners
B) You like also to insult women, and
C) After telling everyone how big you are, you called out my online friends about their personal preferance in a pet.
You’re silly, move along.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 2:25pmlemmings4obama: Ha! I’m a big a guy too. My mother bought a tea cup for my father about 15 yrs ago. I blessed her out over the ugly little dog.. Then my father has a major heart attack and is in the hospital for over a month in which time I have to care for the little dog.
Needless to say she became my best friend and was constantly by my side for 13 years.. She loved children and would get crazy when my sister brought her little ones around. She never got bigger than 3-4 lbs and since she loved babies so much we allowed her to mate from which 1 pup survived. They both passed away in my arms over the pass two years.. Cried like I’ve never cried before in my life.. ha. Not ashame to admit it.. Couldn’t even hold it back around the Vet..
I didn’t even get that upset over the loss of young love or even my father. That’s the only drawback over having pets imo.. Their life spans are much shorter than ours.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 3:50pmMy sympathy goes out to the Chihuahua owner. I had a Chihuahua for 11 years and recently had to put it down for medical reasons. My dog had more personality than most people. I hope she wins her lawsuit.

A) You’re wrong, I didn’t feel it necessary to insult large dog owners, just people who think small dogs aren’t dogs, or people that don’t care about animals, i.e. your “friend.” My sister has 3 Great Dane’s and the all love my Chi.
B) If you’re a woman, more power to you. I only insult people that rudely intervene on statements I am making to others. Ever heard of the AB conversation?
C) I’m big ok,(@Lantz) not tough. Never said that. And your ‘online friend’ you are ‘protecting’ said, she/he “doesn’t care about dogs.” So way to go there, good person to stick up for. Obviously has a huge heart!
Great job with the bullet points though, please keep them coming, only problem is that I have a life and may not be able to tell you how ridiculous your thought process is anymore.

Posted on May 26, 2011 at 3:45amIt sounds like this web site has been taken over by hoards of Democrat Underground members.
You people who are deriving pleasure from what happened to this tiny dog are just a bunch of untermenschen, as far as I am concerned.
People who have so little respect for life, even the life of a tiny dog are not deserving of my respect or any further communications on my part.
I will be canceling my account here and adding “theblaze.com” to my DNS blacklist so that I never have to have my network polluted by any further poisonous remarks like those I have read associated with this thread.
Don’t any of you dare to have an injury auto accident anywhere I happen to be. I’ll leave you to bleed out alongside the road, because that’s what you do with snakes.
