‘Tis the Season: December Saw Highest Monthly Gun Sales On Record

Americans received plenty of guns and ammo in their stockings this past Christmas season as gun sales were the highest ever on record for a single month.

Tis the Season: December Saw Highest Monthly Gun Sales On Record

Britain's Telegraph has the details on the Holiday firearms buying spree which it gathered from FBI statistics on mandatory background checks:"Over 1.5 million background checks on customers were requested by gun dealers to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System in December. Nearly 500,000 of those were in the six days before Christmas...It was the highest number ever in a single month, surpassing the previous record set in November."

In fact, the gun buying ramped up just before Christmas, as 102,222 background checks were conducted on December 23rd, making it the second busiest single day of firearms purchases ever.

Despite already breaking records, the data doesn’t even reflect the total number of possible guns sold, as in many cases, individual buyers could have gone home with multiple firearms.

All of this has sparked a lively discussion in the media and blogosphere about the reason for the surge in American gun sales.

Some suggest that the gun purchases are a reflection of crime concerns as police layoffs gather steam and the economy continues to be poor.

Others believe that tighter firearms controls could be on the way and thus felt a sense of urgency to purchase legal guns while it is still possible.

Dave LaRue, of Legendary Guns in Phoenix, Arizona, told the Telegraph that:

“There are a lot of people concerned about pending gun legislation and the sense about the current administration. People think future availability will be limited and there’s a feeling of get it while you can.”

LaRue also said Christmas sales were up 25 per cent on the previous year and ammunition sales were also “brisk.”Rumors circulating the web of a major ammunition shortage seem to be overblown, as some gun bloggers believe the market is in flux due to competition, not a dearth of production capacity.

In any event, it looks like there are many happy gun enthusiasts across the country who got just want they wanted on their Christmas lists.

For one thing, basic taxation of the people should and must primarially go to emergency responders and police protection. This is the first and foremost mandate of government…to protect its citizens. But local politcians always lay off these folks before identifying and cutting needless spending such as social programs. So many new gun laws went into effect once AGAIN and every year, that people want to get ahead of the new laws. Buying ammo too before the new laws in Cali that require merchants to gather ID info for every ammo sale. I think too the anxiety of the direction of this country under BHO leadership and with the signing of NDAA into law has just added more fuel to the fire their feeling to arm themselves for what they feel is coming against them.

The year 2010 was the water mark for firearms purchases. Americans purchased enough firearms and ammo in 2010 to equip 4 US Army Infantry Divisions. If 2011 was a bigger year, then we now have privately owned weapons to equip 8 infantry divisions. We don’t have air support but the Tala Ban did not have any air support either. What a mistake, Congress declared war on the most powerful people on earth, the American People.

      This is not a drill.

Tell the truth. The people buying guns are preparing to arrest the government as it has become dangerous to freedom and liberty and has broken the Constitutional laws. It has killed their unborn and left their children to the homosexuals. People are chomping at the bit to exact justice and payback on those Godless who are trying to put even more chains on them and their children. Beware. The people will kill with prejudice those who would take their Republic. Fools will be slaughtered as pigs.

      Yupper!

I got one, my wife got two, and even my 9 year old got his first (BB gun- yeah, I know it doesn’t count, but it’s a start).

Remember, folks, they only background check handguns. The rifles are take ‘em the same day. If they processed that many handguns, you *know* they had mayby 25-50% more because of rifles.

As to me and mine? I got my M-4 (yes, a papered M-4 and not an AR-15), wifey got a stripped down MP9 (she didn’t want the bells and whistles) and a 22LR (basically a .22 variant of an AR-15), and we both got lots and lots… and *LOTS* of rounds.

No tellin’ when Obammy brings the hammy down on your mammy. He’s got to hate that the biggest gun sales months in history all came under his watch. You know he’d love to make it otherwise.

Don’t waste your money buying hunting ammo for .223/5.56. Just got Winchester .223/5.56 Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) for $9.01/20 rounds. The .223/5.56 is good only for varmints and humans; very efficient and a small wound bleeds a lot. This 55 grain round chosen for use in Vietnam. The desert wars require 62 grain. Hunting ammo for deer-sized game should be .30 cal. The most popular is the .308 Winchester/7.62×51 NATO 150 grain round. This is the cheapest FMJ for defense and target and there are many hunting loads and weights available for game up to Moose. Would go Winchester Magum or the like for Moose; many loads and bullet weights available. All hunting ammo should be SOFT-NOSED. Defense ammo is FMJ or hard-nosed by Geneva convention.

Oh, btw Guns are illegal and banned in India, yet they have the highest kill rate via firearms on the planet.

There are two things that will cut down on gun violence:

The majority of people that are willing to have background checks are not a threat. Private gun sales or guns that are stolen will always get in the hands of criminals. No matter what the law is. People know the threat that faces them in this nearly Godless society. The OWS, the black panthers, the gangs, murderers, rapists, theives, many illegal immigrants, homegrown terrorist, and the progressives who have called for violence are the reason we choose to own guns. Also we may need them for hunting our food supplies when things get out of control. This day and age private gun sales are up so that the government can not trace them, and yes many good people purchase them this way now to secure their own safety. Bad people will ALWAYS have guns and weapons regardless of ANY law the progressives try to enforce. Most of us choose not be sitting ducks for the evil and dangerous portion of our population that have no thought or respect for human life or personal property that belongs to someone. We are nonviolent by nature but have had to be realistic about what lies ahead. We will not be the ones that resort to stealing and killing because we have enough sense to prepare the neccessay provisions to protect our families .Without a method to protect ourselves and hunt for food, we would be easy targets. We are not willing to do that, only a fool would be. The fact that there have been so many sales in guns proves the fear and instability the progressives have put us in.

Mr. STRAY DOG . .. Don’t sell yourself short We think you are INCREDIBLY stupid.

And that is exactly why you are going to lose. You think it is going to be easy and always go all your way just because it is for now. Just like those idiots in zucotti park who thought you could sleep in the street and not get robbed, raped or beaten by the cops. Things went Hitler’s way for a long time and for the Japanese also and the USSR said that they would bury us. You will end up on the trash heap of history next to them in the end.

Lots of good comments. Just want to add if you are in a mind to, think about reload equipment and supplies. There is an up-front investment, but it really cuts down on the cost of rounds long term. Also actual bullets and sealed bottels of powder will last long past Cass Sunsten’s attempts to render our firearms useless by making ammunition scarce. Expecially larger caliber casings last multiple reloads. Just follow the experts literature. It’s perfectly safe if done correctly, and you’ll find your accuracy is improved. Good luck and pray it won’t come to this, Amen.

I agree, I have been reloading for the past 20 years and each time I go to the ranch with family and freinds I pick up all their brass for pistol and rifle ammo. For pistol ammo you can get cast bullets very inexpensively and stock up. When OBAMMER is a lame duck, either for the last 2 months of this year or 4 years hence he will pass the most draconian anti-gun AND ANTI-AMMO laws you can imagine via executive order. They will make it where buying weapons and ammo is still legal but the cost via taxes will be so high it will be out of reason for the normal person. Check the ammo pricess in the few countries that still let you own a rifle or shotgun for hunting.

I have actually shot a criminal before a few years ago. I was at a local McDonald’s late at night with my family. Some of us made a bathroom break before leaving and on the way to the car 2 men cornered me while family was getting into the van and asked me for my wallet. I was paralyzed with fear as then one of them pointed a gun to my head and demanded I give him my wallet and car keys. I am a conceal carry holder and so while pretending to get my wallet I unholstered my gun and I fired 2 shots into his chest. The other one got away. But to make a long story short, we later found out these same men had mugged another couple only minutes before in the same parking lot. If not for the 2nd amendment I would be in a coffin somewhere.

Uncertainty may be leading folks to a new level of self-reliance & self-awareness.

As a long-time proponent & defender of gun rights I am always happy to see folks excercising their rights. I just hope folks are going to get some “range-time” & practice with their new acquisitions. More accidents are caused by folks who think just owning a firearm is enough.

Practice & familiarity are essential, especially in a self-defense situation.

GUN atheists are the reason, I live in california and personally I am embarrassed as to what they say we can and can’t own. It makes you want to break the law. I have owned many many firearms over the years, I am 46 and I have never been in a situation that would require me to use one defensively. My family shoots nearly every weekend, I train more extensively for the coming insurrection. I will be damned if this or any Government attempts to take my weapons. We have been trying to sell all of our properties in CA so we can move to a more tax payer/firearm ownership state. Yes we will leave our homeland just because the left wing retards make most decent firearms illegal.
