Tom Cruise‘s New Movie Trailer for ’Jack Reacher’ Premieres Amid Divorce Drama

LOS ANGELES (The Blaze/AP) — Amid new-found scrutiny over his adherence to Scientology and with his marriage in an upheaval (i.e. it’s ending), Tom Cruise has had a challenging week. But it’s still business as usual for the studio promoting his next movie.
Paramount Pictures has released the trailer for Cruise’s crime drama “Jack Reacher,” which opens Dec. 21. The trailer launched on Cruise‘s 50th birthday with Tuesday’s debut of “The Amazing Spider-Man.”

The start of the movie‘s marketing campaign coincides with the breakup of Cruise’s marriage to Katie Holmes, who filed for divorce last week.
The divorce has brought fresh scrutiny to Cruise’s ties to Scientology. His beliefs played a role in Paramount’s split with the actor in 2006 over his discussion of his religion and his erratic behavior regarding his romance with Holmes.
Paramount has since made up with Cruise, releasing his blockbuster “Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol” to a $690 million worldwide haul.
“Tom is a huge movie star for the right reason. He’s a very talented actor whose movies have entertained millions of fans,” Paramount said in a statement. “His ability to make a great movie, as we saw with the most recent installment in the `Mission: Impossible’ franchise – the most successful of the series to date – is the thing that moviegoers remember above all else.”
Adapted from a novel by Lee Child, “Jack Reacher” stars Cruise as an ex-military investigator caught up in the case of a sniper accused of killing five people.

Posted on July 4, 2012 at 11:41amSo disappointed. Tom Cruise is NOT Jack Reacher…..I picture some one like a younger Harrison Ford. Not a little twirp. Love the books. Have read them several times and will do so again….but NO movie. I want to think of Jack Reacher as he is described in the books.

Report Post »Have read almost all of the books. Reacher is 6′5″ if I’m not mistaken and tough as nails without any editing or fight enhancing so that puts Cruise in park with the parking brake on.

Posted on July 4, 2012 at 3:14pmHollywood has an investment to protect–they have made an number of female hero movies featuring five foot four inch, 120 pounds that cream diminutative male actors. A six foot five inch, 240 pound Jack Reacher would destroy any believability of these flicks. I don’t watch diminutative heros llike spider man, GI Jane etc. This is hollywoods attempt to make us belive the 120 pound women are suitable special forces contenders.

That’s what happens when an author sells the rights to his/her work to Hollywood. Usually the author has nothing to say about the final product. Just ask Janet Evanovich.

Posted on July 4, 2012 at 11:15amHollywood cares not a whit about the character when they completely ruin a franchise. I remember hearing about a year ago that Cruze,(Cruise? Cruz? Cruse?) would be cast as Reacher. I emailed Lee Child to express my dismay. I will continue to read, but won’t pay a nickle to see this movie. I must admit that Tom is a good actor…the movies I have seen him in never revealed that he really is a wimpy lunatic.

Posted on July 4, 2012 at 10:57amI‘ve read them all and just couldn’t think of anyone who could pull it off. But rent “Faster” with Dwayne Johnson aka the Rock. He was definitely Reacher. Unstoppable!
That said, Cruise may be a freak, but he’s got the chops to pull it off, if not the imposing presence. See “Collateral” for an example. I’ll just have to pretend the title is something other than Jack Reacher.

Posted on July 4, 2012 at 8:19amJack Reacher is 6-4 lower 200lbs. Jason Statham IS Jack Reacher. Maybe Tom is going to play the Mini-Me version of Reacher. Or maybe the screenwriter and casting people misread Lee Child’s books and think Reacher is a Ninja Smurf hence the casting screw up.
