Too Far? New Dem Attack Ad Portrays Elderly Man as Male Stripper

We’re over a year away from the 2012 election, but the attack ads are already heating up, so to speak.
A new ad by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) tries to portray Republicans as ruthless budget cutters who, by voting for Paul Ryan’s 2012 budget plan, just voted to abolish Medicare. The ad shows an elderly man trying to raise money through a series of odd jobs. After trying to sell lemonade and cut some grass, he eventually rings the doorbell at what seems to be a bachelorette party.
“Did someone call the fire department, because it’s about to get hot in here!” he says. The ad then cuts to him in much less clothing while dancing around the room.
“Seniors will have to find $12,500 for health care,” the ad goes on to say:
In a statement responding to the ad, National Republican Congressional Committee spokeswoman Joanna Burgos accusing Democrats of “shameless scare tactics:”
“The Democrats’ shameless scare tactics are merely a way to mislead voters and cover up the real Democrat plan to watch Medicare die a painful death, an unacceptable option for America’s seniors,” Burgos said in the statement. “The reality is that the Republican budget blueprint saves Medicare for future generations with no disruption for those in and near retirement, while the Democrats’ plan cuts Medicare benefits and raises taxes on job creators and every person who receives a paycheck.”
“After House Republicans rammed through a disgraceful budget that would end Medicare — while giving millionaires and billionaires another tax cut — we knew we had to have an eye-popping response,” DCCC Rep. Steve Israel Israel said in an e-mail to supporters.
But as PolitFact — the fact checking website — points out, the claim by Democrats (and liberal site Moveon.org) that Republicans voted to “end Medicare” is “false:”
MoveOn.org claimed that Ryan’s budget plan “abolishes Medicare within 10 years.” The group provided no evidence that backs the claim. To be sure, the plan would change Medicare, significantly, starting in 2022. But for those who turn 65 before then, there would be no changes at all, even after 2022. And for the others, Medicare would change — dramatically — but it would still exist.
MoveOn.org went too far with its claim. We rate it False.
It looks like seniors can keep their clothes on.

Posted on April 20, 2011 at 2:53pmThis is too comical be be taken seriously by any political side! Whoever came up with this kind of silliness should be fired for wasting the money. *LMBO* Realistically–what kind of political weight could something like this carry? This isn’t so much an act of desperation as it is a total lack of creativity and thought. Whose opinions are possibly going to be swayed with this unrealistic nonsense? I can’t even call it a metaphor, an illustration.
I guess the Dems figured out things like “Republicans want to kick Grandma down the stairs” no longer resonates with the public at large. I guess they have no solid place to go, now that they have gone too far. Hence, silliness like this ad.
Just too funny!

These are the same people that want to give a life or death sentence to seniors that are too old or will cost to much to take care of. Stuff your freaky ad Dems where the sun don’t shine…liars.

Posted on April 20, 2011 at 2:47pmThe Republicans need to come back with an ad that goes through each false claim and correct it. Very simple, they show each segment of the dimmie ad with the word false, and then the correct it with the correct part. They should do this as soon as possible.

Posted on April 20, 2011 at 3:08pmYou know what? I see elderly men and women bagging my groceries every week at the supermarket. Why are they there? Because either their retirement plans or their Social Security isn’t enough to live on. And most of these people were in middle life when IRAs and 401Ks were introduced. So, they have our benevolent government, who promised them an income in their sunset years but hasn’t given them a raise in the last three, to thank for that. So, what makes anyone think that Medicare isn’t going to go down the same path as Social Security, the Post Office (yes, I know it is private, but it is also almost bankrupt), Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and the State of California? Change the plan now while it’s still managable rather than later when all us Boomers are forcibly enrolled in the plan.
Report Post »afishfarted
Posted on April 20, 2011 at 3:18pmTaquoshi, if I may, these social programs are relatively new to our county’s history. These programs were introduced when most of these seniors were children. Before then, a person worked untill they died. Families pulled together in hard times. The whole worl throughout history operated that way. It’s painfully obvious that our new “system” is a failure. No government has the ability to provide for it’s citizens. The best thing a government can do is tay the hell outta the way. really

Report Post »First off the people in the meeting decided to whoop it up after a comment by Ryan the the upper incomes are taxed. Well? What isnt accurate about that statement? The upper 10% of wealth in the US pay the upper 40% of taxes (accept of course for the millionaire Obamas who only paid 26% for last year). There isnt anything wrong with challenging the politicians and force them to explain the details which is what I saw goin on here. The meeting was organized with everyone behaving themselves whether they agreed with the budget proposal or not. We dont get annoyed with people who debate and question their politicians, we get annoyed with people who use thug tactics to do nothing more than to be disruptive. Beside since when do 30 people sitting in a room represent everyone anyway? What he said about corporations and those that own small businesses may not have been popular with that group but that doesnt change the fact that he is absolutely correct. How has Wisconsin fared since the dems took over with outstanding majorities in borth houses and the governorship? Not well! In fact the problems didnt start to happen until after they got there hands in the candy jar and started raising eveyone’s taxes and robbed $$ from different funds to balance the budgets.

Posted on April 21, 2011 at 12:32amTo Fish,
Just a point of clarification for me, when you refer to “these programs” are you referring to the Medicare/Medicaid/Social Security programs or to IRAs and 104Ks? I’m assuming you mean the Medicare/Medicaid/Social Security, but want to be sure.
I think that the interesting thing in the entire picture is that the government makes Social Security mandatory – and the government bitterly fought the idea of private retirement accounts as we know them today. However, many of the elderly bought into the idea of the government plan (though in some cases there are those, such as my own grandmother who escaped from a Communist country, never quite trusted the Social Security plan, bless her heart). It wouldn’t bother me so much if we were forced to participate in Social Security, but I know these people did and now can’t make ends meet on their pensions or SS checks.
