‘Too Many Concerns’: Dallas Morning News Un-Endorses Controversial Candidate Broden

In what could be the start of political fallout for Texas congressional candidate Stephen Broden, the Dallas Morning News has pulled its endorsement of the Republican pastor citing “too many concerns” after he was quoted Thursday saying that a violent government overthrow is “on the table.”

On October 1, the paper originally endorsed Broden over incumbent Democratic Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson in Texas’s 30th U.S. House district.

“[W]e cannot look past the fact that Johnson allowed at least 23 scholarships that could have helped constituents’ children to be funneled to her own family and associates,” the paper’s editorial board wrote. “The constituents of this southern Dallas district deserve better.”

The board went on to say:

We recommend the Republican challenger, Stephen Broden. We don’t make this recommendation lightly. The public knows little about Broden, 58, but we are heartened by the fact that he has been involved at the street level, reclaiming parts of the district in southern Dallas. He pastors a small mission church near Fair Park, whose goal is to transform the lives of pimps, prostitutes and addicts. Having seen the district’s needs from the ground up, he believes much more could be done to create jobs and stability.

At 3:23 pm CT, that endorsement was removed on one section of the paper’s website and replaced with the following:Too Many Concerns: Dallas Morning News Un Endorses Controversial Candidate BrodenBesides the editorial endorsement, the Morning News also published a news story regarding Broden’s original comments to WFAA-TV News 8 in Dallas. Neither outlet’s story had been updated as of Friday night.

Broden, however, did update his website Friday. He posted the following under the heading “Revolution Through the Ballot”:

Too Many Concerns: Dallas Morning News Un Endorses Controversial Candidate Broden

The Morning News responded to The Blaze’s initial request for comment by sending an e-mail with the updated endorsement. However the paper has not responded to a follow-up e-mail requesting information on the specifics of Broden’s “back-track.” WFAA’s Brad Watson, who originally reported Broden’s comments, also did not return a request for comment.

The Blaze has been in contact with Broden’s campaign. The candidate has agreed to an interview, which will be posted in the coming days.

Earlier today Glenn Beck spoke out about the incident, saying that if Broden’s comments were reported in correct context he would “campaign against him.” Broden appeared at Beck’s 8/28 and “Divine Destiny” events in Washington, D.C. this summer.

I have listened to Pastor Broden’s radio program for a long time and he is a great patriot, he is no Bill Ayres. Sorry Glen, you shocked me this morning, you got it wrong, you of all people should know better. Pastor Broden, may God walk and guide you through this difficult journey. Oh! and about that corrupt Eddie Bernice Johnson not only did she steal scolarships to give to her grandchildren and her chronie friends kids, think about all the deserving young people who didn’t get to go to College because of this corrupt evil woman! Vote for Pastor Broden and throw this corrupt evil woman out!

It appears that Glen has heard the talk on the street about violence too, why all his constant talk about “non violence” to us all, here after the election, as he stated once again yesterday on his TV program?.

Why all his talk about things, in the US getting bad?

Why does he tell us over and over to get ready for it, the violence, and in the same breath that we can survive it?

Its gonna get bad, Beck tells us over and over and over, and begs us not to be violent back!

Why all the talk that we are going to see rioting in the streets like France, Greece and now England?

Beck knows what is sitting out there! And he is warning us all.

The only thing that this man did was to voice that same FEARS that Beck has done all these past months, ….and stated because of this, there will be people that will not stand for changing this country into a socialist, marxist, commie state, without a fight. And Beck knows this too. Yes, this is what the Soros’ and Progressives want, so that they will have an excuse to take over our beloved country with force, with our own military, our own police men etc, And all of you who voice your outrage understand that there will be those that “will not allow this to happen, quietly”.

This is what Beck is talking about and that we can survive if we are prepared and realize what is happening. The only way to enact change is to VOTE VOTE VOTE Nov 2. STOP this now, we are the people and we can and will make the changes need through our VOTE.

The talk on the street, every day Joe citizens has been “this will not stand”. No on saying so, but the under current is there, everywhere and that is a fact.

By the way the Rangers Won tonight and go to the World Series. Way to do Rangers, beaten them Yankees.

People need to calm down a little bit here. Glenn said that IF THIS IS TRUE, he condemns him and will not stand with him. However, Glenn later said that he doesn’t believe he actually said it. So I’m not sure why there are all the cries of betrayal, here. You know Glenn will get to the bottom of it, and when he does, hopefully it will be revealed that Broden never said these things. A Pastor should never suggest that violence might be the answer.

The black robe group was a major factor of calling to action the citizens in the first American Revolution. I realize that is is difficult to understand, especially if you don’t know our true history. The problem isn’t the situation itself, it is the solutions that you don’t understand, why and how we reason our choices are based on our committment to our Oaths and pledges with historic principals.

I agree with the man and I would vote for him. He is just saying what could happen not what will happen. Sounds like a Juan Williams thing to me. What the pastor said has always been on the table. “We the people” have always had the right to be governed by a people that believe in freedom. Just like we fought Japan, Germany, etc. we will rise up against any country or group of people that try to take our freedom away from us. Glenn this really does not have anything to do with you it has to do with us as Americans.

Glenn should not have denounce what the good Pastor said – as the pastor was referring to the stand of our Founders – including Jefferson and Hamilton. He stated that violent revolt was on the table – which frankly, is a given anyway. It is always on the table as long as there are people in America! He did not call for it – but he did denote it. I remember in the 60′s the radicals calling for it – same for Alinsky and Obummer’s ghost writer – oh yes – he did perform voilent acts. Hhhmmm. Now Glenn – yes he’s a pacifist – but if you watch Glenn over the past several months – it’s obvious that Glenn is beginning to suspec that violence is coming – especially if the Dem’s fraudulent take the the Nov. election away from the TP/Repub/Conservatives. He knows we are getting “fed up” (really pissed of may be better characterization) with the antics going on in Florida, Illinois, Michigan, etc – to stela votes, disavow the military their ability to vote, pychological warfare against our school children, etc., etc. etc. So Glenn expects it to come – while he is still really afraid of it becuase of what he expects Obummer to do – and remember – he and his family are in NEW YORK – which puts him and them on the front lines when the union thgus take to the streets and the response from us red blooded Americans is to plant them in the ground!

Am I missing something gang. Glenn clearly said that if indeed Broden said it, he would denounce it. He was just saying that if that WAS the message, it was the wrong one to send.
And by the way he is not doing what Obama did. Glenn would actually be going against his friend based on principle. Obama made his comments based on race. No matter what the situation he was defending his race first. It was not on principle. I think some of you are not getting this completely right.

The great problem I see here is that, the democratic control of the administration and congress were hell bent to pass ledgislation that many times 60 to 70% of the nation were not in favor of, but they past it anyway. They knew/know what is better for the electorate. The healthcare bill exempted (from what I’ve read) congress and senior congressional staff from participation, but yet mandating all of the rest of us to participate, whether we agreed with it or not. There are many other similar situations, as well; the Stimulus Bill and TARP and so on. All of these ledgislative initiatives effectively left 50 to 60% of Americans out of the loop, we didn’t have a say on them. Don’t get me wrong, I’m an independant. The majority of the American People are walking away because they feel estranged from the federal government, they don’t like the arrogance and elitisms demonstrted in congress and the administration, (my way or the hiway) they are afraid, they are tired of partisan politics, political machines, corruption of any kind in government. The ballot box on 11/2/2010 is the only effective way to change direction. Surely, if the democrats really care, they must come to grips with the results of their actions. Surely, if the republicans really care, they must come to grips with the results of their actions.

      a quote from my blog

I do not at all advocate the armed overthrow of the American government; I am simply stating that civil war is becoming imminent and its aim will not be to overthrow, but to restore it. There are voices that whisper across the land echoes of Patrick Henry’s speech in Virginia; Not “give me liberty or give me death”, but instead “if we are already at war, why are we not fighting?”. These whispers are gathering and will soon begin to be shouts. I have heard some good hearted Americans say, “resist the call to arms, this is just what the enemies of freedom want”. I suggest that if the enemies of free men in America want free men in America to incite violence, that the free might finally be enslaved, they have not learned from history what price free men will pay and have gravely underestimated the resolve of those who might support tyranny. When the next revolution comes to America, be it near or far away, the lines of division will be clearly drawn, not between whites and blacks or wealthy or poor, not gay or straight, or liberal or conservative, Christian or Muslim, but the lines will be held by those willing to die for their freedom and those who question if they are willing to die to try and dominate the free among us!!

The “Cleansing” of the cancer that is the socialist/marxist/democrats should be relatively easy. The comments I heard Glenn say and posteed here on the Blaze did NOT qualify his condemnation of Broden. Glenn did the exact same thing as Obama did with the policeman in MASS. Jumped the gun without the facts. He has been manipulated by progresssives.

Isn’t it interesting that this Broden psotion became public two days after Glenn exposed Soros. I‘m sure that’s a coincidence. Perhaps the $1 milkion was spread around to the Texas news media???

for the average American, I agree with you, but you have to understand there is a different frame of reference in the great state of Texas, a different mindset. Their history has been one of not backing down from such ideas as seceding from the union since their state began. That is why I said he was walking a tightrope. We are not talking national politics with this story. It is state politics for many Texans.

I’m going to add 2 Chronicles here again to show everyone who is in control of our future. The first thing that we don’t do is panic and allow FEAR to grab ahold of us. I’ll just add verses 1 – 30 here for those of you who want to read it again.
After this, the Moabites and Ammonites (both races were descendants of Lot, Abraham’s nephew) with some of the Meunites came to make war on Jehoshaphat (the King of the Southern Kingdom of Judah). Some men came and told Jehoshaphat, A VAST ARMY IS COMING AGAINST you from Edom (the descendants of Esau, the brother of Jacob) from the other side of the Sea. It is already in Hazazon Tamar (that is, En Gedi). ALARMED, Jehoshaphat resolved TO INQUIRE OF THE LORD, and he PROCLAIMED A FAST for all Judah. The people of Judah CAME TOGETHER TO SEEK HELP FROM THE LORD; indeed, they came from EVERY TOWN in Judah to seek him. Then Jehoshaphat stood up in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem AT THE TEMPLE of the Lord in the front of the new courtyard and said: O LORD, GOD OF OUR FATHERS, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the KINGDOMS OF THE NATIONS. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you. O our God, did you not drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend? They have lived in it and have built in it a sanctuary for your Name, saying, If calamity comes upon us, whether the sword of judgment, or plague or famine, we will stand in your presence before this temple that bears your Name and will cry out to you IN OUR DISTRESS, and YOU WILL HEAR US and SAVE US. But now here are men from Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir, whose territory you would not allow Israel to invade when they came from Egypt; so they turned away from them and did not destroy them. See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession you gave us as an inheritance. O our God, will you not judge them? FOR WE HAVE NO POWER TO FACE THIS VAST ARMY THAT IS ATTACKING US. WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO, BUT OUR EYES ARE UPON YOU.
All the men of Judah, with their wives and children and little ones, stood there before the Lord. Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite and descendant of Asaph, as he stood in the assembly. He said, LISTEN, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! THIS IS WHAT THE LORD SAYS TO YOU; DO NOT BE AFRAID OR DISCOURAGED BECAUSE OF THIS VAST ARMY. FOR THE BATTLE IS NOT YOURS, BUT GOD’S. Tomorrow march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the gorge in the Desert of Jeruel. YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO FIGHT THIS BATTLE. TAKE UP YOUR POSITIONS; STAND FIRM AND SEE THE DELIVERANCE THE LORD WILL GIVE YOU, O Judah and Jerusalem. DO NOT BE AFRAID; DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED. GO OUT TO FACE THEM TOMORROW, and the LORD WILL BE WITH YOU.
Jehoshaphat bowed with his face to the ground, and all the people of Judah and Jerusalem FELL DOWN IN WORSHIP BEFORE THE LORD. Then some Levites from the Kohathites and Korahites stood up and PRAISED THE LORD, THE GOD OF ISRAEL, WITH A VERY LOUD VOICE.
Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! HAVE FAITH IN THE LORD YOUR GOD AND YOU WILL BE UPHELD; have faith in his prophets and YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL. After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed MEN TO SING TO THE LORD AND TO PRAISE HIM for the splendor of his HOLINESS as they went out at the head of the army, saying: GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD, FOR HIS LOVE ENDURES FOREVER.
As they BEGAN TO SING AND PRAISE, THE LORD SET AMBUSHES against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and THEY WERE DEFEATED. The men of Ammon and Moab rose up AGAINST THE MEN from Mount Seir TO DESTROY AND ANNIHILATE THEM. After they finished slaughtering the men from Seir, THEY HELPED TO DESTROY ONE ANOTHER.
When the men of Judah came to the place that overlooks the desert and looked toward the VAST ARMY, THEY SAW ONLY DEAD BODIES lying on the ground; NO ONE HAD ESCAPED. So Jehoshaphat and his men went to carry off their plunder, and they found among them a great amount of equipment and clothing and also articles of value – more than they could take away. There was so much plunder that it took three days to collect it. On the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Beracah, WHERE THEY PRAISED THE LORD. This is why it is called the Valley of Beracah to this day. Then, led by Jehoshaphat, all the men of Judah and Jerusalem returned joyfully to Jerusalem, for the Lord had given them cause to rejoice over their enemies. They entered Jerusalem and went to the temple of the Lord with harps and lutes and trumpets. THE FEAR OF GOD CAME UPON ALL THE KINGDOMS OF THE COUNTRIES when they heard how THE LORD HAD FOUGHT AGAINST THE ENEMIES OF ISRAEL. And the kingdom of Jehoshphat WAS AT PEACE, for his God had given him rest ON EVERY SIDE.

This is the same thing that God can do for HIS PEOPLE again. We must trust God and PRAY for deliverance, for another enemy has come against us again. Whether you are a praying person or not, NOW IS THE TIME TO TURN TO GOD and he will help us. The Bible tells us that in the last days God is going to again do awesome wonders for his people. It’s a good time to start looking for those awesome wonders. What do you have to lose?
Judah did not fight this battle; God did. But the people had to do their part too. Fast, pray, praise, and then take up your positions and see what God will do!

This is truly sad! So very sad…

My heart is breaking for this man. A man of honor and his words used against him as if he meant real harm to anyone. God, I pray… I pray that people listen to the holy spirit on this one. This man doesn’t appear to be evil. He was making an observation that many American‘s today feel as we all are watching our liberty’s and our country get destroyed by communism.

I just will cry… cry to our Lord, our King… please hear us. Please guide us.

      Amen…

We all know it’s on the table — just like using a nuke on Iran — or any other ‘last resort’. We just don’t talk about it till we need to, or the Progressives will pull a FDR and put you in an interment camp like the Japanese did. The Progressives would do it in a heartbeat.

Nice mess indeed. When Broden said that, I assumed (and maybe I’m naive) that he meant he didn’t want or advocate a violent overthrow. Indeed, that was the last thing he wanted, but he couldn’t take it off the table if it came to that. Remember the context in which the Second Amendment was written.
They had written letters, they had protested, and the king sent troops to shoot them. What choice did they have? Broden wasn’t advocating violence. He was saying that, just as the Second Amendment, it can never be taken off the table. Once that option is gone, we are no longer free.
I don’t advocate violence AT ALL, but if someone is shooting at me, I’m not going to just stand there.

Honestly Texas wouldn’t need a Revolution as they are the only state that can seperate from the union legally. I think the Pastor is misunderstood and believe him when he says that he doesn’t mean right here and right now we need revolution. I believe I have heard Glenn say on his program that everythign should be done peacfully, but when all peaceful resolutions are exhausted sometimes we must rise up against our government. The Progressives are doing it from the inside now and if they ever get their way they will destroy our government. Pastor Broden is not wanting to revolt against the government, but he is reserving revolution as a last ditch effort to defeat the Progressive’s idea of government, aka Socialism.
