Top Bush Aide Calls for Attorney General Holder’s Resignation

The video clip in this post if from Friday night‘s edition of ’The O’Reilly Factor.’ Michael Gerson, former chief speechwriter for George W. Bush, makes his case for the resignation of of Attorney General Eric Holder. Later in the program former Bush aide Dana Perino describes Gerson as thoughtful and “non-political.”
I would agree on that point. I wish I had some scandalous story from when Gerson and I were roommates in college. But he was pretty thoughtful back then too.
In his Washington Post column Gerson analyzes the prosecution of Ahmed Ghailani:
Under Holder’s influence, American detainee policy is a botched, hypocritical, politicized mess.
The case of embassy bomber Ahmed Ghailani – the only Guantanamo Bay detainee the Obama administration has brought to trial in the United States – was intended to increase public faith in civilian prosecutions. But a terrorist hugging his lawyers in victory can’t be considered a confidence builder.
Days before the Ghailani verdict, the White House admitted that Mohammed, because of massive, public resistance, would not be seeing the inside of a Manhattan courtroom anytime soon. “Gitmo,” one official told The Washington Post, “is going to remain open for the foreseeable future.”
Where do these developments leave Holder, for whom failure is not only an option but a habit? A recent profile by Wil Hylton in GQ magazine attempts to put his tenure in the best possible light – the lonely, naive man of principle undone by politics. But the portrait is unintentionally devastating. Holder clearly views the war on terrorism as a distraction. “The biggest surprise I’ve had in this job,” he told Hylton, “is how much time the national security issues take.”
The rest of Gerson’s column is worth reading. I like it’s bipartisan conclusion:
Obama seems to be realizing – gradually, reluctantly – that applying the rules of war in the midst of a war does not destroy the credibility of the rule of law or encourage terrorist recruitment. But his public inability to admit this shift seems to be leading to the worst of possible outcomes.
In all likelihood, Mohammed won’t be tried in a civilian court. But Obama’s progressive allies would revolt against a military tribunal for the killer of Wall Street Journal correspondent Daniel Pearl and the mastermind of Sept. 11. So Mohammed is left in legal limbo. This, in its own way, does seem at odds with the rule of law – a prisoner condemned to detention without trial because a president cannot admit he was wrong.
How does Obama back down and accept a tribunal? He could begin by appointing an attorney general who understands the requirements of national security. Some on the left believe Holder should resign out of principle. Some on the right believe he should leave because he is out of his depth. Such bipartisanship should not go to waste.
Update: Ed Morrissey notes Tim Pawlenty sounding the Holder alarm as well. Read it here.

Posted on November 20, 2010 at 10:09amI don’t know whether Holder should go or not. Technically, yes he should, but what else would we end up with? Attorney General Patrick Fitzgerald wouldn’t be much of an improvement, and I don’t think anybody else Obama would replace him with would be much better. Just another aspect of that elections have consequences thing.

GQ asks a lot of softball questions and doesn‘t question some of Holder’s questionable statements (which I guess shouldn’t be surprising coming from a liberal rag), to both Holder and GQ the whole DOJ has become about race which I find absolutely absurd!

What it did show is our government is incompetent to do its job in bringing terrorists to trial and showing the world we will not put up with it. Once again, we have come out of this looking weak, wimpy, and we have to be the laughing stock of the terriorist regime. Eric Holder is either an idiot or its all part of a grand scheme in Obama’s attempt to bring American down. Dump Holder and better yet, IMPEACH Obama before he does any more damage to us.

What most here fail to see is we have been being beaten to our knees since Bush 1.. it was more gradual but it was happening..as they passed treaties with countries that took away our jobs our lively hoods, our self respect slowing.. Obama is just doing it FASTER.. we found each other and said STOP.. Soros said the boat was ready to sail.. WHAT he didn’t expect was the PEOPLE to actually STAND UP and putting holes in his boat having it slowly sink but.. we did.. Now the RATS are scrambling.. trying to figure out what they can do next to quiet down the people.. they are banking that they are right and people have SHORT memory spans.. to bad they will be proved WRONG.. they are hoping we will get bored and quit watching because to the holidays and be more interested in material thing again however they are wrong.. it will give us more time to watch and compare notes as to the failures of Obama’s administration like HOLDER and his failure at bringing any security to our country.. The only thing Obama is good for is making us look weak and have other countries laugh at us..

Posted on November 20, 2010 at 12:40pmIf Holder and Obama are the examples of graduates from Columbia I would strongly suggest finding another school for college bound young people to attend. It is apparent that either their degrees were bought and paid for or they didn’t learn a thing while they were there. In either case, Holder and Obama are in way over their heads and both should resign before they make themselves appear more foolish than they already have – they are the jokes that can be heard ’round the world.

“If Holder and Obama are the examples of graduates from Columbia I would strongly suggest finding another school for college bound young people to attend.”
Amen to that. I am constantly warning parents about checking into the universities that their children want to attend. If their children come back home and have been brainwashed to hate their country, and their own parents, then the parents have only themselves to blame if they failed to check out the university prior to paying for their kids brainwashing.
I have paid good money for family members to attend good universities. There is a catch. They do NOT tell me where they want to go. They tell me what they want to go to college for, then I do the research and give them a few options. If they don’t pick one of mine, they pay, not me.

Both boys are very conservative after having to “earn” a living before earning a degree and took it very seriously. Daughter now going back to school after working and 3 children. They went a different path but the end’s the same. The only message schools will get is if their revenues go down with a lower enrollment. You’re right on with your selection method – love it!
