BERLIN (The Blaze/AP) — The bones of Adolf Hitler’s deputy, Rudolf Hess, have been removed from their grave in a small Bavarian town that had become a pilgrimage site for neo-Nazis.

Before dawn Wednesday, workers exhumed Hess’s bones from the grave in the Wunsiedel cemetery, then cremated the remains and scattered them secretly in a lake, whose name and location are not being divulged, cemetery administrator Andreas Fabel told The Associated Press.

“The grave is now empty,” he said on Thursday. “The bones are gone.”

Hess was captured in 1941 when he parachuted into Scotland on a mission to negotiate peace between Britain and Germany.

The attempt was denounced by Hitler, and Hess later told British authorities that the Nazi leader knew nothing of it.

In recent years, Hess has come to be seen as a martyr by the far-right and thousands of neo-Nazis have used the anniversary of his death as an occasion hold large rallies, with Wunsiedel — near the Czech border — often a focal point.

Most such rallies have been banned since stricter laws were implemented in 2005, but the grave continued to attract far-right extremists to the town.

With the lease on the burial plot coming up for renewal in October, Hess’s relatives and Lutheran church authorities in the town decided it was best to remove the remains, Fabel said.

“Both sides were in favor of it,” he said.

Hess was an early confidant of Hitler’s, and, while Hitler was imprisoned in the 1920s, the Nazi leader dictated much of his infamous manifesto “Mein Kampf,“ or ”My Struggle,” to him.

Hess eventually rose to the position of deputy Nazi party leader, but by 1941 his influence with Hitler was waning. His flight to Scotland is widely seen by historians as an attempt to restore his importance.

Instead, Hitler said he was delusional and the British treated him as a prisoner of war.

At the Nuremberg trials after the war Hess was found innocent of war crimes and crimes against humanity, but sentenced to life imprisonment for crimes against peace and conspiracy to commit crimes against peace.

Hess was the last inmate at Spandau Prison in then-West Berlin when he died on Aug. 17, 1987 at age 93. Allied authorities said he hanged himself with an electrical cord. The prison was demolished shortly afterward and the rubble secretly disposed of.

Hess was buried in his family plot in Wunsiedel, at his request.

      The Nazi Party had nothing to do with “the far-right”, except in the minds of the revisionist Left. National Socialism is demonstrably the Left’s tarbaby, but they’ve spent the last 50+ years trying get as far away from their monster as possible with marginal success. The quoted portion of the article shows just how simplistic and sycophantic journalists have become.

    Yes Hitler and Rudolf Hess were very murderous and vile persons. But everyone seems to forget about Vladimir Illich Lenin and Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin. the two who arguably murdered more people than hitler and hess. Maybe these two guys should be dug up, cremated and their ashes dumped in the ocean. The left in this country would go crazy. “Semper Vigilantis!!”

      Yes, because of Marxist class hatred, it’s hatred of religion, it’s hatred and paranoia of anyone who dared disgree in any way with the life of slavery and poverty in their Soviet paradise millions were arrested and sent to forced labor camps in closed box cars in the USSR. If these people were not executed by a bullt to the back of their skull after their “interrogations or ”trials” they were sent north to the Soviet Artic to labor camps like Solovki or East via closed box car trains to the numerous labor camps in Siberia to be worked to death. All this happened twenty and years or less before the Nazi Holocaust of the Jews in Europe from 1939 to 1945 when millions of Jews were also stuffed into box cars and sent East to their extermination, because of Nazi race hatred, to be killed by gas at those camps we all know so well about in Poland. When will Hollywood make a movie about those tens of millions who went in filthy box cars to their deaths in the Lenin and Stalin‘s Soviet Gulag after 1917 until Stalin’s death in the early 1950′s? Why is it that the greatest mass murder stastistics of human beings in the last century or ever was by the Communists, perhaps as many as 150 million human beings died because of Marxist ideology. Yet this enormous killing of human beings is totally ignored in our schools, universities and by our cable history channels and also by Hollywood. It’s a shame. No. it’s an outrage and a disgrace.

    @Sound the Trumpet in Zion – They did persecute Christians. They had catholic priests and jehovah witness’s in Auschwitz, not to mention college students as well. The Hitler Youth Handbook condemned Christians because Christians believed all people were equal in the site of God. Read Auschwitz, a New History by Rod Gragg.

    That photograph shows a lot. I am tickled to see Nazi party members wearing the “Jodhpur pants” created by the Hindu Maharajah of Jodhpur in the late 19th century, which the British royalty adopted and soon spread as the uniform of all European leader and military leaders world around.

    Going back in history in the island of Sri Lanka when the Dutch conquered and wanted Buddhism elemenated from that land they went to the Dalada Maligawa where the tooth of the Buddha was kept. A Bikku (Buddhist priest) who being warned replaced that tooth with a another tooth. The Dutch then took the false tooth, crushed it into powder and tossed it into the river. After they were replaced by the English the Buddha’s tooth was returned to that temple.
    The reason for that story is that anyone could secretly put someone else’s bones that date around that time and claim that a “miracle” had happened and the bones have come back to it’s resting place. Believe me the neo Nazi’s will take this propaganda and run with it claiming a “new day is born” heralding this “miracle” as a sign of a “new day” and people will buy it hook, line and sinker, and that organization will grow.

    It is very apparent how weak and effete Western democracy is. It fears a man who died twenty five years ago and has had his grave dug up and his remains desecrated because of their fear of their deteriorating culture and social order. Hess lived his last forty years in confinement and premature senility. Spandau prison was kept open at tremendous cost just to incarcerate one old man who had not been found worthy of the death penalty in 1945. How scary this old man was to the degenerates who now control the new world order and have brought his form of socialism to fruition.

      I’ve read the history on Hess and have come to the conclusion that he was trying to stop Hitler by flying to Scotland and meeting with Joe Kennedy to give vital military information. (I‘m sorry I am unable to cite the histories I read since my study was done in the early ’80′s). I DO NOT condone anything Hess, Hitler, et.al. did, but I do find it sad that a sad and deranged old dead man’s remains had to be dug up and destroyed because a bunch of idiot Neo-Nazi‘s we’re flocking to his grave. I’ll always believe Hess tried to aide the Allied Forces.

    This should have been done to the remains of Hess just after his own death in prison; the simple fact is that the bodies of those convicted and executed after Nazi Germany fell — the leaders and the true war criminals that had been caught, precisily for this reason. The leaders of the allies in the time did know that a day may come when there would be those delusional and misguided humans who would come to see these monsters as martyrs and heros of humanity.

    So their bodies were cremated and the ashed reputedly dumped either among the waters of the Rhine, or more likely into the oceans — depending on which story you wish to believe.

    This is one of the other reasons why OBL’s body was sent to the deep six after his death; to make sure no one would turn his grave into another shrine for the forces of darkness and death.

      It’s unfortunate that his ashes were scattered on a lake. If only the victims of the Holocaust got treatment as humane. Hess’ vile remains should have been treated less delicately, like letting an animal “pay its respects,” cleaning them up, and throwing them amongst the filthiest garbage out there. Nazis were and are no more than pieces of vile filth.

      Hitler hated the existing institution of the Communists, not the principle thereof. Ergo, he hated Soviet Russia, not the concept of Socialism, of which the Nazi Party = National Socialist Worker’s Party in common parlance.

      National Socialism is simply Communism with a different governing structure and a different operational dynamic on how it controls the nation’s industry. In all other respects, they are just as brainwashed and corrupt as the other.
