Top White House Aide: Romney ‘the Godfather’ of Obama Health Care

Senior White House adviser David Plouffe on Sunday called GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney “the godfather” of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul.

“Mitt Romney is the godfather of our health care plan,” Plouffe said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.“ ”If he is president, remarkably he is running away from that past, and he says he is going to try to throw all this away. We’re going to have a big fight about health care again.”

Romney has come under repeated attack on the campaign trail for the health care legislation he signed into law as the governor of Massachusetts. The state law included an individual mandate, which Obama’s Affordable Care Act put in place on a national level.

The U.S. Supreme Court is set to begin hearing arguments about the Affordable Care Act Monday.

Plouffe, who managed Obama’s 2008 campaign, made the Sunday morning talk show rounds, also appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” CNN’s “State of the Union” and Fox News’ “Fox News Sunday.“ He repeated the ”godfather“ remark on ”This Week.”

Asked by NBC’s David Gregory whether Romney could be credited with the individual mandate if it turned out to be popular, Plouffe said, “Maybe in 2016 when he is a professor somewhere or whatever he is doing he can remark on that.”

The problem with all this about Romneycare is the people of Mass. voted for it themselves. Romney didn’t shove it down their throats like Obama is doing to us. And that is all of it in a nutshell!

      Bingo.

I’d like to add that Romney won the Massachusetts primary with 72% of the vote. Clearly, Romneycare isn’t a big issue for those who are actually affected by it.

      @sicboy,

Pay attention next time. His comment followed a question regarding his connections to the MASSACHUSETTS Republican Party. As in, “aren’t you just like every other republican in Massachusetts?” To which he replied his only tie in with them was that he was also a registered republican, otherwise he had his own vision. Quite frankly we need a better vision than the one Santorum had when he was Senator and voting to spend money like a “teenager with a brand new credit card.” You have got to try harder to pay actual attention to the context of Romney’s often repeated quotes. He is more often right (I mean that in every sense of the word) than he is mistaken.

His proposal was a model for the nation. A conservative answer to an actual state centered problem. What Obama has done with what was right about Romney care is unrecognizable. Romney care is 75 pages, Obama care is 1100 plus. Huge difference. Romney addressed one issue with Romney care, eliminating the cost of free loaders. His state government was already obligated to pay for their care (Thank you LBJ) and they determined it was better to help pay for everyone to be on some kind of insurance than to absorb the costs of those that took advantage of the system without insurance. (Preventative care costs less than emergency care.) Obamacare is a radical take over of the healthcare system. Quit confusing the two, their only similarity are the words mandate and care. Every state should take into consideration what was right and what may be wrong about Romney care.

Romney may speak like a moderate, he may even call himself that ten years ago, but his actions as Governor and the results of his management are most definitely conservative. Santorum may preach conservatism, but his voting record is not. He spent money like a “teenager with a new credit card” and his current behaviors reveal him to be entitled and self centered. He is not our guy.

There is nothing at all conservative about Romney or Romney care. There is nothing conservative about violating your natural rights to appropriate your property for the welfare of others, either at federal, state or local layers.

It is simply immoral, wrong, to use the government to bully people into charity.

      ==================================

As recently as last year, the federal taxpayer was picking up nearly 2/3 of the tab for RomneyCare:

      —————————
“And those government programs are proving far more expensive than projected. Last year the program cost $2.12 billion, but Massachusetts only ended up picking up 18 percent of the tab. Thanks to waivers, special deals with the federal government, and stimulus dollars, the federal government picked up another 64 percent of the costs while private health insurance consumers picked up the rest of the tab (through higher premiums and co-pays passed on by hospitals and insurers). Looking ahead to next year, the state is expected to be almost $200 million short of paying for the program. Overall, total state health care spending has grown from 30 percent of the budget in 2006 to 40 percent today. The national average is 25 percent.”

You speak of Romney as a successful business man, but did you know he used tax payer dollars to fund his businesses? Bain Capital received 44 million dollars of tax payer money.

Romney is pro Patriot act, pro NDAA, pro bailouts, pro global warming, pro UN, pro asking lawyers what to do in reference to our military. We dont need another one of these guys. There are plenty.

If the election is between Romney and Obama (and it appears at this point that this is likely), everyone who opposes Obamacare should vote for Romney because he is the only one of the two who is vowing to get rid of Obamacare.

And for those who like Obamacare, they should vote for Romney because all credit should go to him as he is the godfather of the bill (even though his plan was 75 pages and Obama‘s was thousands of pages so they can’t be equal).

So no matter what you think about Obamacare, vote for Romney – not Obama. David Plouffe says to!

Turn to our Lord Jesus Christ and our Father God in all that you do! For it is written,
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.
Search yourself, your thoughts, your words, and your acts for the works of the flesh; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries. Again I tell you it is written,

And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.
You must put away pride to find such things in yourself! Nothing anyone else does will be accepted as a reason for such things in yourself.
My brothers and sisters in Christ turn to your Lord with every free moment you have! Seek Him, praise Him, worship Him, drop to your knees and pray to him from the heart!

      “Operationally, they are same”.

Romney isn’t Obama. Romney is a businessman more recognizable with the American ideal. Is he a Social-Darwinist; maybe a little more than we like.

Obama is a Utopian; meaning he doesn’t recognize Natural Law. His ignorance is on par with his anger and his greed. Obama greedy? He relishes the life of a King.

“They are the same”. Who are “they”? They are the Ruling Class; Left and Right. Good and Evil. Designing ways to spend the PEOPLE’s money. Always a so-called investment to be made.

The debt/GDP and the spending/GDP (vs revenue/GDP) is their calling card. They write laws that protect themselves from losing money. They leave crumbs for the Dependent class in exchange for votes.

“They” are on government welfare. By definition, government overspending is a welfare subsidy. Tax laws is their means to welfare.

“They” are too dependent on government welfare to balance their budgets.

Romney talks about balancing budgets. Obama, well he just doesn’t care; revenge has a price.

The highest virtue in the Universe; spend within your means to create revenue, honestly. Only the human tries to spend dishonestly.

Humans like to spend more than we earn. And now we are in a big hole. One man recognizes the hole; the other wants to keep digging.

Romney is probably the best chance we have at President; only if because he won’t stand in the way of Congress.

After all; it is Congress that controls

Too bad your weren’t held more as a baby. Your neediness is very apparent.

Baloney, White House! The Democrats had Obamacare planned out for DECADES! Remember how soon Obamacare was introduced after Obama was inaugurated? Do you think they were able to come of with 2000 pages of healthcare legislation that quickly? Congress is usually tortuously slow. Romneycare was only 75 pages long. The Devil is in the details, and even if they did look at Romneycare as a model they bastardized it with 2000 pages of details. This is what happens when you get a bunch of attorneys together along with politicians who have to add their own “pet projects’ into a bill. There also is a HUGE difference between State laws and Federal laws. Tennessee has “Tenncare”, who says that wasn’t the model for Obamacare? What about other states that have their own healthcare bills? Romney is simply the scapegoat because he is running for President, and this is all the Democrats have against him.

A couple fun facts: Tenncare was introduced in 1994 and Romneycare was introduced in 2006.

      Another fun fact:

      ——————————
“Although some influential libertarians condemned Romney, most conservatives praised the plan. Robert Moffit, a policy expert at the conservative Heritage Foundation, which helped write parts of the law, spoke at the ceremony. “The real trick is to retain what is best in American health care while correcting its deficiencies and expanding upon its indisputable benefits,” he said. “Massachusetts has done just that.”

Romney signed the bill at a wooden desk using fourteen different pens, which he later distributed to the dignitaries on hand. “It’s law!” he shouted after the final stroke. On cue, the sounds of the fife-and-drum corps filled the hall with Colonial-era music. Behind Romney stood the people most responsible for passing the plan, among them Senator Ted Kennedy and Salvatore DiMasi, the Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. In one photograph, the Governor is looking over his shoulder at DiMasi, laughing, and Kennedy is smiling at Romney. Kennedy died in 2009, and DiMasi is currently on trial for extortion and corruption and may go to jail.”

There is a great news article regarding Romneycare at
    Conservativesamisdat Sept 12 2011

It explains the evolution of Romneycare all the way to the MASSholes in the DEMOCRAT legislature that added overwhelmingly to the costs of the laws. MITT vetoed the additions, but was overridden by the LIBERAL DEMOCRATS. Goes to show, NEVER compromise with DEMOCRATS. Crush them with Conservatism

If I didn‘t know better I’s swear the White House is blaming Romney for obamacare. Supposedly obamacare is one of obama’s (many) great achievements (second only to personally killing Bin Laden). Now it seems obama wants to at least share the glory of obamacare with Romney.

    1. Romney pushed to try State Wide run healthcare, not National…
    2. Romney now see’s it failed, its 3 times more costly then expected and it still doesn’t cover everyone.
    3. Romney simply has to go to the podium and his argument when he repeals “I was an advocate of State run healthcare in MA. and it failed, on a National level it is a failure of great proportions, given this, Obamacare must and will be repealed and replaced with a more aggressive and competitive set of Free Market solutions that will be more beneficial to all.”

    That’s it, end of argument.

But he won’t. He’s proud of Romneycare. And he’s already flip-flopped on so many things, he can’t afford to do so on this.

And besides, whether socialism is tried at the state level or the national level, it’s still socialism. And the one who advocates for it is, by definition, a socialist.

Chary is correct. Your argument doesnt hold water because romney defends romneycare to this very day. Romney says there are some things he would do different – BUT HE HAS NEVER REGRETTED THE INDIVIDUAL MANDATE. That is some terrible judgement and leadership on romney’s part.

Romney is DEAD IN THE WATER over this issue. The average american is so dumb – they would never understand what you just said – they would just see romney as a hypocrite

A plan 80 years in the making was created by a right leaning republican governor 10 years ago.

They wanted control of healthcare from the time of Woodrow Wilson and they did for a time but that was just the large hospital institutes. That us until industrialized healthcare insurance and the industrialized pharmaceuticals was created when anyone could get pills and did not have to go to the state hospital to be institutionalized and lobotomized.

No this is the reason they don’t want Romney because nobody knows this legislation better than any of the others. Romney knows more about the economy and job creation than all of the putters combined..

Obamacare won’t be an issue probably because the Supreme Court will very likely declare the law unconstitutional next week. It will be a harder road to repeal it if they don’t.

you crack me up with your nonsensical arguments. So you are saying the white house and media are rooting against romney? Thats a riot. Supreme court hears agruments next week but they dont decide until summer. That will give republicans plenty of time to vet romneycare

If romney knows so much about the economy – why does he want to increase minimum wage and why does he support the progressive tax code?

I will never understand how people like you could be passionate about someone like romney. oftentimes it is a fellow mormon but i’m not sure in your case

Love how the O administration is deflecting from their failures. “Look, over there, a bright shiny object”, they say. We know about Mitt and ‘Mittcare’. We will let the Supreme Court decide the fate of Obamacare starting this week… ALL politicians are shady, even cartoon characters know that.
