Total Surveillance? NYPD to Launch an All-Seeing ‘Domain Awareness System’ to Track ‘Potential Terrorists’ and Criminals

New York News | New York Breaking News | NYC Headlines

The New York Police Department will soon launch an all-seeing “Domain Awareness System” that combines several streams of information to track both criminals and “potential” terrorists.

New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says the city developed the software with Microsoft.

Kelly says the program combines city-wide video surveillance with law enforcement databases. He added the program will be officially unveiled by New York’s mayor as soon as next week.

Conservative author Brad Thor has coined the term “Total Surveillance,” referring to the federal government’s ability to monitor nearly every aspect of our lives through an array of surveillance technology. The term certainly seems fitting here.

(Author Brad Thor Dishes on His New Thriller: ‘24 Hours a Day, 7 Days a Week, Our Digital Exhaust Is Being Sucked Up by the Government)

Total Surveillance: NYPD to Launch an All Seeing Domain Awareness System to Track Potential Terrorists and Criminals

But WNYW reports that there are actually some who are concerned that the program doesn’t go far enough.

Kelly spoke Saturday before an audience at the Aspen Security Forum.

The NYPD has been under fire for surveillance of Muslim communities and partnering with the CIA to track potential terror suspects. Muslim groups have sued to shut down the NYPD programs.

Kelly defended the policies as key to thwarting 14 terror plots against the city since the attacks of Sept. 11th.

According to WNYW, the Domain Awareness System is a counterterrorism tool designed to:

  • Facilitate the observation of pre-operational activity by terrorist organizations or their agents
  • Aid in the detection of preparations to conduct terrorist attacks
  • Deter terrorist attacks
  • Provide a degree of common domain awareness for all Stakeholders
  • Reduce incident response times
  • Create a common technological infrastructure to support the integration of new security technology

Predictably, the citizens of New York fall on both sides of the issue.

“It would make me feel safer to know the public being protected that way,” one resident said. “If you have nothing to hide, why would you worry about surveillance?”

Others are more concerned with their right to privacy and remain unconvinced that more surveillance will actually make the city a safer place.

“Yeah, I don’t there should be so many cameras and so much invasion of privacy going on,” another New Yorker said.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

This weekend I finished Brad Thor’s new thriller “Black List” and he just trashed Stephen King. This is one movie I can’t wait for it to come out if the USA survives long enough for it to be made. Clint Eastwood will probably be the producer. On Thor’s research most of what is in the book is already being done thru NSA and many other government agencys.

Nepollitano and Bloomberg have labeled TEA and Conservatives as Terrorists and Criminals. Anyone who advocates smaller government is a Terrorist who must be killed. Our Government has announced to the World that it is prepared to kill its own people in order to carry out its lawless and unconstitutional policies. Obama and the new Federal Government are prepared to make the Gas Changers of Germany look like musical chairs. Remember what the Federal Government did to the American Indians and Mormons in the 1800s. Priests were once lynched and burned to death in America not long ago.

THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT GOING TO BACK DOWN

Your vote does not really count anymore. There is only one thing that Government and all Governments fear and this is annihilation by its people. The first law enacted by Congress grants We The People the right to change the Government when its must. It is a legal moral act to change a government that no longer represents the will of the people. Governments that represent the will of the people do not threaten its people with death.

This is what happens when society has already lost it‘s way and when a man can’t control his own actions then SOMETHING must just to maintain civility. We used to BELIEVE that GOD does watch and see. While we may not all be potential terrorists, we are ALL potential crimminals.

Unless you can keep to the exact speed limits everywhere for starters.

I wonder, if the gps in vehicles to tax road use becomes law, if speeding will become pro-rated.

Instead of just getting a ticket when the cop stops you, will you just get a monthly bill saying you were 2 m.p.h. over the limit here, or 4.25 mph over the limit for a period of six minutes here.

Maybe instead of arguing over the credit card, the most common spousal fight will be over the monthly speeding bill.

This is what people are being told about the cameras NOW. That doesn’t mean the use of them will remain the same as it is today. Here in Memphis, TN, the city installed cameras on red lights at intersections where there were many accidents. The purpose was to “prevent accidents from people running the red lights”, but others argued that it was to “raise revenue”. The “raise revenue” was more likely the real reason since it is now being discussed that the cameras be used to record how often people from the surrounding suburbs enter the city itself. If individuals enter more than twice per week, they will have to pay to have their car inspected. It’s called “Bait and Switch”.

Have you heard of DHS Urban Telepresence (TENTACLE) and WIDE AREA AIRBORNE PERSISTENT SURVEILLANCE??? DHS attempts to integrate all camera sources from interior and exterior (with software like Tentacle) and WASS into one system that tracks you even when you enter buildings or lose overhead coverage.
    What is DHS Urban telepresence?

Multi-camera real-time Feature Recognition, Extraction &Tagging Automation (McFRETA), and authored by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The goal of the effort was to design, develop, and demonstrate a scalable framework and software application to enable tracking and feature extraction of uncooperative entities captured in multiple streaming sources and enabling near real-time forensic analysis of the extracted data. http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/Ge...

What is WIDE AREA PERSISTENT SURVEILLANCE ? (ARGUS, Gorgon stare, hawkeye II, angelfire, gigapixel camera, kestrel) CITY-WIDE DRONE 24/7 VIDEO ENABLED WITH AUTOMATIC OBJECT TRACKING OF CARS/PEDESTRIANS IN THE FRAME 50 SQUARE MILES ACROSS
    http://www.pixia.com/solutions...

Commercially Operated Persistent Surveillance Solution (COPSS). COPSS provides customers a commercial turnkey solution to Wide Area Motion Imagery (WAMI) collection, processing and dissemination for public and private sector customers such as law enforcement, border patrol, federal emergency management officials and private companies. We should all fight aggressively to stop Wide Area Persistent Surveillance

I don’t think they would waste the money on so many cameras in other cities, now drones following you once you leave their video network, I totally believe that will happen. They should really be careful about relying so heavily on surveillance in a city, there are many ways to Jam a system like that no matter how robust they think it is, I think that is why the FBI will go with drones nationally rather than trying to keep an easily disabled video network up in every major city. This might work in jolly old England but keep in mind Tesla had a lab in down town NY if he lived today and were irritated enough he’d likely jammed their entire network if not fried the whole thing . From what I understand there are supposed to be 10-20 Tesla level scientists based upon population and education in this decade, all they need to do is really upset them.

This is the case of Big Sister and Big Brother coming out in full force; being done both on the local and national levels one step at a time. Mayor Bloomburg and the other communists who seek to reforge the nation into their own nightmarish image of a utopian ideal of uttermost insanity will spin this more and more as a ‘needed means to guarantee the public safety.”

As was once said, “those who trade freedom for security will not enjoy either for long.”

So it is here and now, we are seeing the example set with a socialist/communist control of items being banned, lifestyle and family choices being made for them, and now security implemented, which will soon be followed in other communities around the nation.

One step at a time, and the communists are gaining power.

We need to end the madness of them across the board, local, city, county, state, and federal while we still have time.

    1st NY then USA.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, … that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, … Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” – Declaration of Independence

Obama routinely omits ‘Creator’ when speaking of unalienable rights.

Glenn must stop omitting Art 2, Sec 1, of the Constitution when speaking of Obama!

“The usurper Obama is not eligible for multiple reasons including:
    1. Failure to be a “natural born citizen” as required by Article 2, Section 1.
    2. Being born a British citizen pursuant to British Nationality Act of 1948.
    3. Law enforcement investigators have concluded his birth certificate is fraudulent, which along with other identity anomalies i.e., suspected fraudulent selective service registration, suspected fraudulent social security number(s) and multiple aliases, very likely means Obama is not even a U.S. citizen!

The most authoritative source for the meaning of a “natural born citizen” as one born in U.S. of U.S. citizen parents (plural), is in fact the Constitution. The meaning of a natural born citizen is further confirmed by American history, the Founders, Congress and the Supreme Court.”[1]
