Totally Drug-Resistant Form of TB Emerging in Second Country

Mycobacterium tuberculosis generally affects a patient's lungs but it can be found in other organs as well.
Three years after the first reports in the world of a totally drug-resistant (TDR) form of tuberculosis (TB) in Iran, at least 12 cases of TDR-TB have been confirmed in India over the last few months.
According to the Times of India, cases began emerging in October 2011, making it the second country find this deadliest strain of TB among patients. The U.S. Center for Disease Control categorizes resistance levels of TB as multi-drug resistant or extremely drug resistant. TDR is not even classified yet on the CDC’s website and there has been no reported cures for such a strain of this bacterium yet.
What’s worrying, according to the Times of India, is that 10 of the 12 cases were of city dwellers:
“The TB bacilli have obviously mutated. The emergence of TDR-TB has grave implications for public health,” said Hinduja Hospital’s Dr. Zarir Udwadia, whose observations have been published in the latest issue of the US-based Clinical Infectious Diseases (CID) peer review journal.

Dr. Amita Athawale, who heads KEM Hospital’s chest department, said TDR-TB was a reality in India. “The cases we clinically isolate are just the tip of the iceberg,” she said. TB is one of the biggest killers in India, along with heart attack.
So far, the Times of India reports, one of the 12 patients has died. Worldwide, there are 8.8 million incidents of TB and 1.45 million deaths occurred in 2010, according to the World Health Organization.
Wired referrers to the first outbreak of TDR-TB in 2009 in Iran as “underreported” in the media. It notes that while only 15 cases of this strain were reported then, 146 of the multi-drug resistant version were cited with a high percentage of those cases being among traveling immigrants.
According to Wired, only two-thirds of countries with forms of drug-resistant TB have labs capable of diagnosing the bacterium as resistant. This means that only about one in every 10 patients with multiple drug-resistant TB gets treated. The likelihood of treatment leading to a cure ranges widely. Estimates state that for every one person with TB, 15 others could get infected.

To Minimize deaths and suffering, and to create an area that is natural and limited to be able to scientifically find the limits and influences of a disease.
Now our goal seems to allow it to spread uncontrolled until People are effected enough to allow the taking of everyones liberties instead of just the few directly effected. What happened to Free and Humane societies.

My county in washington state has the highest tb rates in the country because we are a port city with a liberal government that imports many folks from over seas and are a sanctuary city here in seattle. king county wa tb rates highest in the nation for years and no one gives a rip. they do absolutely nothing to prevent those of us who pay taxes from getting these diseases they would rather import democratic voters to keep their power.

I’ll just share it with those who ARE able to understand the dangers…
He told me that illegals are coming into the US with TB, and that each one passes it on to ANOTHER 12 – 15 people EACH. He said it is most predominant in the Mexican and Chinese illegal immigrants. He attributed it, in part, to their living in crowded conditions, and lack of sanitation/sanitary practices (like covering your mouth when you cough, or washing your hands frequently).
Now, before the haters start in on me, I’m telling you exactly what a very liberal (obama-ite) doctor told me.

Posted on January 10, 2012 at 11:13am@Tom…I’m the wife of a firefighter…every one of our guys tests positive for exposure..Your very liberal doctor is telling the truth..There was actually several cases of Human Bovine TB that broke out a few years ago that were directly linked to illegals and the the bathtub cheese being made and then sold to restaurants. My doctor isn’t liberal, but he’ll tell you the same thing. He has treated diseases he had to look up, as he had never seen a case. When a state next to mine cracked down on illegals, a lot came to my state, next thing we know there is a Scarlatina outbreak.

I’m not sure if it is available to the public as of yet, but is a mandatory vaccine for healthcare providers in larger hospitals [just as the flu vaccine is now becoming a requirement of your employment-no more opting out for religious/personal reasons]. Now, even after receiving the BCG vaccine, we are still required to receive an annual TB test [I assume its only the one step that's necessary??].
As a side note, ‘new TOTALLY drug resistant’ ANYTHING causes a healthy level of doubt and suspicion for me. Now, understanding that all organisms mutate as a general rule of survival, I just can’t help but have my doubts.
AND MANDATORY VACCINES, as made by our govt scare me even more. EU GEN ICS???

What i really dont understand is the USA continues to stick people with needles from 2 step TB testing, when in Asia they have something called BAC which is a vacination, that you get stuck once only, and that would eliminate the need to test yearly. aahhh! the FDA, lookin out for everybody again.
