‘Awkwardly Touching’ or Cringe-Inducing? Check Out This Hilarious Prank

Depending on how you feel about being touched by strangers, the following video will either be “awkwardly touching,” as Gawker’s Neetzan Zimmerman puts it, or flat out cringe-inducing.

We chose the latter (although, we have to admit, we laughed).

The video is called “Holding People’s Hands.” We’d explain its premise, but we figure it’s best if you just watch it:

The video was made by Losing All Hope Was Freedom, a group that seems to specialize in making awkward videos about awkward things. They’re the same crew that brought us “Holding The Door Open For People That Are Far Away” (which is hilarious) and “Staring at People” (which is hilariously uncomfortable).

      People are strange when you’re a stranger. And on ones more stranger than some unknown guy trying to hold your hand. Use a pretty girl on those dudes I bet you get a different reactions totally and about the same reaction from women. Women are touchy feely guys aren’t but they do like hot chick.

      Ha! This is totally at Utah Valley University. I didn’t attend, but I recognize the hallway. Plus, I can tell by the way they’re dressed and the one guy recognized the other from Bountiful (high school near Salt Lake). Can’t those Mormons find anything better to study or do with their time? ;-)

    Back around 1995, my father and I were walking through the local mall, when a hand grabbed mine. When I looked to see who it was, it was a little boy, maybe 6 or 7, on the verge of crying. He’d lost his parents and I guess I looked trustworthy (I was 40 or so, and add 30 to that for my Dad.) Being taller than most of the crowd, we spotted a couple that looked borderline frantic. Making our way in their direction, the boy broke and ran to them when we were about 15 feet away and he spotted them. No big deal, but in a small way I felt a responsible part of a greater whole that day.

      I teach my kids if something happens and we get separated to “find a mommy”. Women are much less likely to be pervs and much more likely to help a child. FYI for parents out there. Keep your kids close, but if the unthinkable happens “find a mommy”

      I got lost in a department store when I was about 5 and a man took me to the men’s room and you can guess (or fantasy) what happened to me. Started me on a life long suspicion of everything and everyone. My philosophy: Don’t even trust yourself or you will be betrayed. Now-a-days, I trust the hollowpoint doomsday rounds in my various guns. I touch them a lot.

      I have a 22 year old special needs “child”. He knows if he gets lost to find someone in uniform. That could be a store employee or a police officer. He also knows where customer service is. I let him and my almost 13 year old shop by themselves while I ran to the spice isle yesterday. I was about to go somewhere else when I saw them in check out, so I went ahead and checked out. By the time I got done they were no where is sight. I asked the door greeter if she’d seen them leave, and she hadn’t. I was on my way to customer service when I saw them…they had gone to spices to see if I was still there, and were headed to customer service. But if a strange man, even much younger than me, were to try to hold my hand, I’d pull back and be very suspicious. Hand holding is just such an intimate thing, between friends.

    Its harmless and funny, but he’s gotta be careful, you try that say in the NY subway and most likely you’d get maced, hit, or punched. People are very protective of their space and with all the things you hear and see in the news, people don’t like to have strangers do stuff like that.

    Seriously, there are so many things wrong with the premise of the “prank”. Aside from violating someone’s personal space, there is a whole list of why this is a bad, inconsiderate idea. The other ideas are fine, but this one is crossing the line.

    On a side note, who was hired at The Blaze that there is a slew of stupid, feel-good (or bad), social stories on here now. I thought this was supposed to be different news, it’s turning into the local news.

      Did I read that right? You consider the man NOT being beaten as proof that Satan is taking over this country? In your mind, the lack of violence equates to a lack of Godliness? If that is correct, I find your behavior more disturbing than his.

      @IBELIVER,

      Wow, dude, either (1) you misspoke or (2) you are a total psychopath. I see a prank, you see Satan. It seems like most Christians on here are so stoked about the end of the world and seeing everyone burn in Hell that they are aching to kill anyone whom they deem as “a follower of Satan.“ Is it any wonder why Atheists on here keep falling back on their ”no religion = no war” arguments?

    So what’s the point? There is absolutely nothing wrong with people being startled, angry, or upset with a stranger approaching from behind to try to hold hands. I would be more concerned with people who responded readily because it exhibits a certain loneliness in that they would be so quick to grab hold of a perfect stranger without knowing that person’s intentions. Kind of reminds me of sleeping with strangers after a night of bar hopping, which so many young people do.
