Touching Video of Black Lab Braving Traffic to Sit Beside Pal Fatally Struck by Car

Los Angeles animal control officials are praising the loyalty of a black Labrador retriever after heart-wrenching footage emerged Saturday showing it refusing to leave the side of another dog killed by a car.

According to KABC-TV, a driver in La Puente, Calif. saw the two dogs in the street and put down traffic cones to alert other motorists. Video the driver shot shows a yellow dog lying motionless on the ground with the black lab sitting close by as cars whiz past.

“When I saw the video clip taken by a passerby’s cellphone, I became emotional,” said Marcia Mayeda, director of the L.A. County animal shelter in Baldwin Park, according to LAist.

Shelter staff have named the 2-year-old lab “Grace” and said even though she looks well-cared for, no one has come to claim her so she’s now up for adoption.

Islam designates dogs as filthy and evil.. Yet Islam would throw their own mother or daughter into oncoming traffic for a perceived slight of their ideas of ‘honor’.

And by the way, this is not a touching story BLAZE writers, are you kidding me? Its sad and tragic and horrific. What if it were humans in this video? Just because they are animals doesn’t make this touching, Blaze writers. OMG. I think I can tell how you writers feel about animals just from the storyline. Find some compassion for all creatures.

Don’t be so grouchy. It IS touching. Just like the many stories of labs who‘ve laid on their dead master’s graves and refused to leave until they die, too.

People like loyalty. It’s a trait we highly prize in other human beings, and when we see it in an animal, especially a cute one, it’s just as powerful. You should get that.

I read some articles abpout dog evilution recently that proposed we did not domesticate them, but reather they endeared us to them. Dogs are the best people ever :)

If America is truly a free country that loves dogs, then someone should challenge the no-pets policies in apartments and breed specific legislation.

Where I live, we have breed specific legislation as well, which is idiotic, and which our national and cantonal veterinarians’ association opposed. But at least here dogs whose breeds are not banned can ride on public transport (reduced fee ticket) and visit stores other than the grocery store, and in my city of about 400,000, we have 20 off leash fenced areas where dogs can run free and socialize.

America is not so free country that loves dogs… Thousands are killed every day for the only reason they have no one who wants them, despite being perfectly healthy and loving creatures, and there is no banning to puppy mills where tortured mothers live their entire life in wired cages, as even chickens should not, are forced to breed litter after litter until death!!! If America loves dogs, commercial puppy mills must been banned. And yes, condominiums have cruel abusive regulations because when time passes human needs can change and to share solitude with a sweet dog can be powerful. There is no better companion for some elderly people who need stimulant to live and feel themselves necessary to somebody else. Dogs are forgiving all and generous friends.

Our dogs (and cats) found us. When we evacuated for Katrina, we had 8 cats. When we bought our new house, (old one destroyed by the storm) we had 10 cats. A year later, two Rhodesian Ridgeback pups showed up. No one claimed them, so they claimed us. Last year, we invited a Catahoola lady into our home. Cats have dwindled to two, but the years they spent with us were special. BTW we live in the country; God’s country – Mississippi.

Tie the dog to a leash, bowl of water, plenty of food – dog turns bowl over – animal control comes by and cites the owner for no water – few days later, owner again takes the dog outside ties the dog to a leash, two year old baby tricycles up the street – dog barks – home owner sees all – next day he looks for another home for dog – sometimes it’s best not to have dog!

Looking at all these comments, I rest my case. Sick world we live in where people place animals above or equal to human beings. You know, in psychology, people like mass murderers and serial killers will de-humanize people to make it easier to murder them. Like in Silence of the Lambs when Buffalo Bill refers to his victims as “it” and how the Nazis would treat Jews like animals. Now, take a look at your comments above and look how you do the same, just in reverse. You make animals superior to humans. Its a sick mind to think like that. You sound like PETA. Now thats a sick organization. You sound like Pit Bull owners who get killed by their own dog. “Oh he’s harmless. Its the owners fault that didn’t train him right.” Yeah, right. Whatever. Really, really sad.

Yes, you must be that Hannibal from Silence of the Lambs that you are using as a comparison (please note, scripted Hollywood fantasies make bad comparisons to real life.)

You sound like a lonely soul. I know, it must hurt to see Ron Paul failing miserably, but it doesn’t mean you should take it out on poor dogs. I strongly advise you get a dog. Or it least get a girlfriend…it helps. Of course, you have to move out of mom’s basement first…

What does showing empathy towards animals have to do with “placing animals above humans”?
If you want to get into a psychological argument it might help you to know mass murderers and serial killers almost always start with animal abuse.
