Tough Dog: Game of Catch Ends With Heart Impaled by Stick

Tough Dog: Game of Catch Ends With Heart Impaled by Stick

KOMO-TV:

KIRKLAND, Wash. — If it weren‘t for her strength and her owner’s quick thinking, Abby may not have survived the harrowing experience.

The 4-year-old German shorthaired pointer was impaled through the heart with a stick while playing catch with a ball in the woods.

“She just started crying,” said owner Adam Becker. “I went over there and saw a hole in her chest, about four inches.”

Becker saw that the stick was actually in Abby’s heart, pulling it to one side.

“And I put my shirt on her and carried her out,” he said.

Miss Jodie, our lil gal who is 9 yrs old is a german short haired pointer. The love that she has given us is beyond unconditional. Not only are they loving and dedicated, they are extremely sensitve to those they love who are in anxiety, depression, ailments. I fractured my wrist several months ago, I did not know it. I assumed I had just “had a bad sprain”. No biggie, but when I settled down for the night she would “zone” on my hand and gently touch my wrist and inhale as if she was “pointing”. She is normally is your typical “wig it” happy GMS, a beauty to behold, like a small version of of stallion on GPS..lol. Yet every night she would side with me and repeat her gentle touch. She was right, she knew. 6 weeks in cast and my doctor said “what took you so long?”. Wigit..now is happy girl.:)

We just lost our dog recently. He was just nine years and all of a sudden got ill and died within
two days. We were in shock. We also had a great Vet but she could not save our Tauzer.
We rescued him when he was a puppy from a crack house in L.A.. He talked to us in his
dog language all the time. Never knew a dog that talked so much. He was so unique.
    We miss him terribly!

Someone I worked with years ago had a Lab with an amazing fetching drive. I won’t bore everyone with those stories but I have never seen a dog who would go to the trouble this dog would to bring back what was thrown for him. One day he jumped into the brush to fetch a stick his master had thrown only to return with the stick and a second stick protruding from his chest. The vet said the stick in his chest had pushed his heart to the side and that is what saved the dogs life. Our canine friends are certainly amazing animals.

    One more medical wonder.
Ah…those sweet brown eyes,, and the slight whine of concern for her master when he got a little choked up. Made me want to go into baby talk mode: “Goo girl Abbey” She’s. the definition of true love and friendship, and deserves to be dubbed man’s best friend.

Another comment. Had a Golden Retriever for 14 years. He loved turtles. He would bring me one and go get another. When he passed at the hospital, I made a headstone of a turtle. Almost every day I bring back 4 or 5 from the busy roads and place them at his grave. They are well taken care of.

Getting where I can’t hardly stand this southern heat any longer and besides I really feel that the US is going to fail economically and I do not like the demographics of the south.
