Toy Pig Removed From UK Farm Playsets to Avoid Religious Controversy

A UK toy shop has become the target of mothers‘ ridicule after it removed a toy pig from a children’s farm set in an attempt to kowtow to religious preferences. (h/t Weasel Zippers)

Sky News reports:
The animal was missing from the Early Learning Centre’s (ELC) HappyLand Goosefeather Farm when a mother bought it as a gift for her daughter’s first birthday.
The set did contain a cow, sheep, chicken, horse and dog, but the pig sty was empty – even though there was a button that made an “oink” noise.
What? No accommodation for Hindus who might find a farm cow offensive?
When the mother named only as Caroline complained, she was told in an email the pig had been removed in case it upset Muslim or Jewish parents.
Eating pork is banned in both religions because pigs are considered unclean.
Thankfully, the company has come to its senses and promised to “reinstate the pig” after parents complained. One parent even condemned the whole episode as “political correctness gone loopy.”
But some defended the toy store’s move even suggested the company should have sold two separate versions of the toy, one with a pig and one without.

Posted on November 16, 2010 at 4:29pmHow ridiculous! those who don‘t want the pig don’t have to buy the playset or can throw it away. No one seems to have similar worries about what offends Christians and/or Jews. Pigs were never left out of the playsets for Jewish people who don’t eat pork, were they? But then I can’t remember Jewish people who made threats against those who offended them or their religion in any way. Maybe my memory is just failing me, but I don’t think so.

Schools will have to make sure to take that verse out of the song so as not to possibly offend some sensitive classmates. What a JOKE this pc crap has become!! I feel sad for England. They’re not some less than 300 year old country like us, they have centuries of history and culture, and to be reduced to accomodating one group every time you turn around — just sickening. When the hell did it become acceptable for immigrants (although legal) to demand the host country change their customs, traditions, and toy sets because they are offended? If I emigrated to another country and was offended enough times, I would leave. I would feel like an idiot expecting THEM to change for ME.

The political incorrectness (attempts at being fair minded in public at 85% of everyones opinion) & the complete devastion of what was an inadequate medical system when I lived there. Seriously a 2 hour drive to the closet ER on a major hwy at 70mph not Inc the then 10 hour wait to be seen first by a “P.A.” with a concusion & a bleeding head wound. Luckly my friend lived.

Posted on November 16, 2010 at 10:56pmIt’s time to grow up all you people out there in Muslim land. If you buy a toy farm set and it has a pig in it, which by the way is plastic – you carefully get either tongs or a glove, remove said pig and toss it in the garbage. Problem solved.
I am SO tired of the rest of us having to accommodate Muslims and other minorities. They must be utterly helpless if they can’t handle this kind of problem by themselves. Honestly. How does the fact that one group objects to pigs morph into the rule that no one can have a toy pig?
I’m lactose intolerant. Does that mean that no one, anywhere can have milk? No, it means I can’t have milk (and thanks, others have already told me about Lactaid and such. Even if I could drink milk, I wouldn‘t because I don’t like the taste. ) My inability to digest milk is my problem, not yours.
I need to deal with it and I do, by taking responsibility for my food and not drinking milk.
People are so eager to be “culturally sensitive” to others that they don‘t realize they are trampling on the rights of people who aren’t in the targeted group. Believe me, Muslims will happily walk all over you if they could — and they are working on it.

May be they should have just put a label on the box… this toy contains a pig, If pigs offend you do not by it.
