Baby Dies After Being Left By Babysitter in a Sweltering Car for Hours

In a tragic story coming out of Akron, Ohio, a 13 month-old baby died after she was left alone inside of a sweltering car for hours last Friday.

The details are still a bit murky, but the incident occurred after a babysitter brought five children to a day care center for a “play date.” While she took four of the children into the facility, she apparently left Aolani McCray in the vehicle. WEWS-TV reports:

The play date was set for 9:30 a.m., but it wasn’t until 1:55 p.m. that the babysitter realized the child wasn’t with her.

Upon discovering the baby, she was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead. Charges have not yet been filed against the 30-year-old babysitter and investigators are still working to sort out the details. The New York Daily News has more:

Police Capt. Dan Zampelli told the Beacon Journal that she appears to have died from heat exhaustion.

“As we do with every sudden death, we always investigate,” Zampelli said, adding that the 30-year-old sitter has not been charged with a crime.

The child’s family is heartbroken by the incident. Among other details, detectives are currently attempting to figure out exactly how long the child was left in the car.

If you let idiots take care of your kids, they might end up dead. 13 month old olds dont have play dates.from the looks of they people in Ackron Ohio, they were probably smoking crack in the basement or couldnt count to 3. Pay peanuts, get monkeys. Very sad for this innocent baby

Can’t we develop a sensor inside a car that can detect movement/breathing in a car that combined with the temperature inside a car would notify someone? One that would either roll down all the windows and set off an annoying alarm, or turn on the car’s air conditioning, or even use an onstar like calling device that would call for help. For God’s sake, if we can make cars that park themselves, and call 911 after an accident, SURELY we can develop this technology. This is AMERICA, and while it might seem impossible to be an inventor these days, we can do this.

There you go. Why don’t YOU develop this sensor. Open an AMERICAN company to produce it. And get rich.
Then BARRY and his merry band of DEMOCRAT thieves can call you a Rich Republican, TAX you to death and China can produce them.
Very sad story. Another piece of fodder for our prison systems.

Interesting idea, but I think then if the sensor fails and a child is injured or died, the manufacturer gets sued and not the negligent parent or babysitter.

I understand why you think an invention would be good for something like this, but what I find disturbing is that people are putting such little importance on babies that this could happen in the first place. I live in AZ and every year we have at least one of these situations. A web site suggested putting something “important” in the back seat so you dont forget your child, such as a cell phone or your purse, Even my 13 year old son said “shouldnt the baby be important?” One woman left her three month old in the car while shopping at a mall. At some point in a mall you will see something that should remind you that you had a baby….a stroller, other babies…etc. I raised three children and did daycare for several years. You do not just “forget” one of the children in your care. Bless this little one’s heart.

A better way is for the idiot doing the baby sitting (30 years old?) to use a marker and write a number otn the farhead of each child. DUH ! There is NO EXCUSE for this. How does a 30 year old NOT know how to count to FIVE? Another product of our PUPLIC School System (no doubt).

Very sad story….the Great Society has claimed yet another victim.

Many years ago, I was working a retail job in company which catered to the low-end types. One day, this welfare recip came in with four kids to exchange an item, which clearly was not sold by this store. She was high as a kite and pitched a fit that the service desk would not take back this item. When she left in a snit to catch the next bus back the city, she only had three of her children with her.

About an hour later, a little boy who appeared to be about 4 years old, was found wandering about the sales floor without a parent/guardian. Store security took him to the office and called the police. Shortly after the police arrived, “mom” shows up and was promptly arrested; I guess her high was wearing off and she realized that she had only three kids instead of four. She had a long rap sheet and was well-known to the police.

I often wonder what happened to that kid…did he survive childhood in that environment? Did he make anything out of himself or did he become a statistic?

I have been a nanny for the last 12 Years with two different families. The last family I was with has two children aged 8 and now 5. I can honestly say I would have given my life to protect the children I watched. I can not think of any other profession that I would be as good at then as a Nanny. I also have 3 grown children of my own. I have been blessed to witness the True Blessing that Children bring to this world. If more parents or caregivers Would Only Play WITH their children instead of saying GO PLAY SOMEWHERE This world would be a much better place. You would be amazed to learn that you can teach your child pretty much everything if you only take the Time to Stay Next to them and Play.

I can’t understand how some of you can stick up for her and say she just forgot. How in the Hell do you forget a child in your car on a hot day, or any day?
I don’t think murder charges are proper but manslaughter sure is. It doesn’t matter if you have one child or 10, you just don’t forget them in a car. You do a head count to make sure you have them all.
I’m 65 and my wife, I won’t mention her age because some wives are sensitive about husbands telling people that they are a year younger, but we have NEVER forgotten any of our children in the car, or anywhere else. It is unacceptable and should be a just punishment for it.

Yes t00nces2, through prioritizing my life I have left the hose on. Getting back into the house to something that was a larger priority is the cause.

I dont leave my loaded guns around kids as i put a high priority on locking them up safely so there is no way it will just slip my mind. It only takes a few seconds for that to become a deadly ordeal, This “babysitter” had 4+ hours of a child slipping her mind and probably would have been somewhat ok in the first 2 hours before it was life threatening.

Oops, 1 year kid has my loaded .45 pointed at her face again. Must have slipped my mind to put it away after cleaning and reloading it because dancing with the stars was on. But its ok because i turned my hose off before it died. My kid is dead but my hose is ok, nothing to see here folks.
