When American soldiers can survive having all their limbs removed in the field, many would say America’s enemies should be frightened and (perhaps more importantly) God should be thanked. Such is the case with Travis Mills, an army staff sergeant who was caught in a blast from an improvised explosive device (IED), which blew off both of Mills’ arms and both of his legs. Miraculously, he’s still alive, breathing and conscious, according to Fox News:
Army Staff Sgt. Travis Mills, of Vassar, Mich., was injured when he stepped on an IED April 10 while serving with the 82nd Airborne in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. He is recuperating at a hospital in Germany and hopes to return stateside on Tuesday, three days after his 25th birthday, his father told FoxNews.com. [...]
“Travis was scheduled for surgery [Sunday]; however, they said he is stable enough to wait until Monday morning just so everything is freshly done before his flight home,” Mills’ wife Kelsey wrote. ”The nurse told me what an honor it is to be with Travis, and what a great man he is, and how everyone there loves him (as well as everywhere else). She was able to finally give him a glass of milk and he was so happy.”
Mills is only the fourth quadruple amputee in military history to survive his injuries, according to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation, which have reached out to Mills’ family to offer support.
You can also watch Fox‘s full report on Mills’ condition below:
Mills has a website that provides regular updates on his condition, and includes links that can be used to send money for his medical treatment.

Civilian…. And I know many family members and friends who are in the military, and know family to Sgt. Mills as well. I am close to several injured soldiers.
You may be a soldier as you claim, but that is not how the soldiers and families of the soldiers I know talk.
I don’t have to be in the military to appreciate them and love their sacrifice. My family is alive because the military liberated my parents’ country in WWII
You, Sir, show disrespect to this mans spirit and his families spirit, when you speak of wanting to quit when it gets tough and your family wants you alive the most, after a tragic injury.
Just tell me this, what purpose do you serve by inciting the quitter’s attitude first of all, and then come on here and condemn others who commend this man & his family to life and liberty and freedom?
My freedoms were afforded my by the sacrifices of our military men and women, and I will not diminish them or their sufferings, by speaking about quitting and dying when they come across difficulty. A man of honor does not speak of this. If my grandfather had done that, my entire family would not exist.
So my credentials Sir: I am a concerned patriot who is holding FIRM at the home front!

It is interesting that know Soldiers… but it does not mean that you know what they Think or what goes on in their Mind! In the Military Code Of Conduct, the Number One Rule was Never Be Captured (Die Fighting)!
I met Ronald Reagan… but I do not claim to know his thinking or be him!
My Father was, also, WWII… as my GrandFathers in WWI… as GreatGrandFather in Spanish American War. These are not my Credentials!
You simply seem to be highly opinionated… but without actual experience. And, nothing that I have said Condemns anyone. On the other hand, you seem to reject my Opinions and Condemn me.
I think this is Funny!

That’s fine. If this is your stance, we’re done here then.
I’m a civilian, so I don’t have “credentials” as you ask for them.
I just simply disapproved of you comment being simply that dying is a good option for this man, if you were him.
I quite honestly disagree. His family wants him, his family is proud of him, Our Nation should be proud of him.
So you’re right, I don’t have “credentials” as you would like, and yeah, I don’t know what my grandfather or my current living friends from the wars are feeling or think in their heads. You are right.
But you’re trying to tell me that by not having “credentials” (ie. a civilian), that therefore I lose all right and ability to speak up for LIFE and HONOR for Sgt. Mills and the many others like him.
I again disagree. I don’t have to be in their minds, and a military man, to say that dying should not be the suggestion (and I’m not referring to allowing yourself to be captured, I agree with military conduct to die fighting of course).
“You simply seem to be highly opinionated… but without actual experience. ”
Report Post »- So what are you saying? No Personal experience in a war means no right to stand up and support the troops, encourage them not to give up and die? I‘ll guarantee you we don’t do that with my family and friends, but we give them all we can as outsiders, not personally in the military.
That’s OUR duty that we have as the ones left at home.

To save the continued appearance of insulting you or others… I’ll just leave this question with you and allow your response respectfully. Thanks
When they come home to us (injured, mentally unstable, etc), what are we supposed to do then?
Do we encourage them to keel over and die? Or only when the injuries are most severe? What about their families?

Posted on April 16, 2012 at 11:28pmWe’re fighting a politically correct war, which is a type of war that is winless.
If we were fighting to win, it would have been over 8 years ago.
After we beat Japan, we forced the emperor to go on Japanese national radio and declare that he was not divine. We also wrote the Japanese constitution for them. THAT is how you win wars. You don’t win wars by playing nice, or by handcuffing our soldiers with absurd rules of engagement. And, you certainly don’t win the peace by allowing 12th century Islamic warlords to write the constitution.
