Truce on Social Issues? Mitch Daniels Cuts State Funding to Planned Parenthood

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels has signed a measure to further restrict abortions in Indiana and make it the first state to cut off funding to Planned Parenthood.

The Republican governor is considering a run for president in 2012 and adding his signature to the abortion bill could help his image among social conservatives who say they worry he’s too much of a fiscal hawk to get involved in such issues as abortion.

The abortion bill wasn‘t on Daniels’ legislative agenda, but he signed it Tuesday along with 79 other bills.

Planned Parenthood of Indiana says it will seek a temporary restraining order and injunction Tuesday in federal court to try to prevent the measure from taking effect.

It is sad that the most dangerous place for babies in America is in their mothers’ wombs. And why should my/our tax dollars be responsible for that? Things in this country have become very catawampus and bass ackwards.

This nation will reap what it has sown. God help us!

The ONLY reason he signed the bill was because of the blow back he got from the truce comments. He didn’t have a choice. If he didn’t sign it, his Presidential aspirations (for at least this cycle) were over. (And the ficons wouldn’t be too thrilled either that he passed up an opportunity to trim the budget) His signing the bill doesn’t prove anything other than that he was paying attention when his truce comments generated heat.

I‘ve had enough of ’go along to get along’ Republicans and Daniels is one of them. Pass.

I‘m happy that Mitch just committed suicide with his comments in the easiest election cycle the Republican’s have faced since 1984. Daniels is a loser at the top of the ticket. Perhaps McCain will run again to satisfy all the “moderates” of the GOP.

Let’s try this instead, in what you would call ‘real world’ terms…

With the development of the morning-after pill, the barbaric practice of abortion is no longer necessary. The pills are cheaper and safer than a high risk surgical procedure. They are given at hospitals in cases of rape, either as a matter of course or upon request. In most states, a girl 17 or older can get them over the counter at drug stores when showing proof of age. Under 17 needs a prescription–a service PP can easily provide or refer at nominal cost if not for free. Many county-run clinics do the same.

You infer being a sciences geek. Well, look what science has done: created a safer and cheaper alternative to abortion that has the same result in that there are no babies.

I’ve heard all the lines before, and find them frustrating as you do. If I might offer a suggestion, read the book “Evidence That Demands a Verdict” if you already haven’t. The author (a lawyer) set out to disprove Christianity by applying the rules of evidence used in American courts, and came away a believer.

What’s the line from that old TV commercial? Oh, yeah–”Tryyy it. You’ll liiike it!”

This other guy who scoffs at the idea of Jesus just being a normal guy, I was there once. Afraid to even question it. Jesus was just a preacher. He actually existed. Besides, John 3:16 says, in part, that God gave his only begotten son. Who told God he could only create one? It’s GOD.

“…I care more about people wanting laws passed based on their beliefs…”

      ________________

On what basis, then, should laws be passed? If belief should not be a consideration among men, then the only logical recourse is a superior being.

Or, to reverse, how about nothing? Which way should this go?

Realistically–should we revert to early Roman times, when families retaliated to wrongs done against them as they saw fit, to no limited measure?

I believe it is wrong to just kill a man for fun (for example). By what you posted, my belief is invalid and therefor it‘s okay to just grease a man you don’t know, who never did you harm.

I’m a sciences geek and a history nut.

By your post, if it is universal belief to not kill the innocent, then the belief itself is wrong, a misnomer.

The new Russia has changed to a mixed model of health care with private financing and provision running alongside state financing and provision. Article 41 of the 1993 constitution confirmed a citizen’s right to healthcare and medical assistance free of charge.[30] This is achieved through compulsory medical insurance (OMS) rather than just tax funding. This and the introduction of new free market providers was intended to promote both efficiency and patient choice. A purchaser-provider split was also expected to help facilitate the restructuring of care, as resources would migrate to where there was greatest demand, reduce the excess capacity in the hospital sector and stimulate the development of primary care. Finally, it was intended that insurance contributions would supplement budget revenues and thus help to maintain adequate levels of healthcare funding.
The OECD reported[citation needed] that unfortunately, none of this has worked out as planned and the reforms have in many respects made the system worse. The population’s health has deteriorated on virtually every measure. Though this is by no means all due to the changes in health care structures, the reforms have proven to be woefully indequate at meeting the needs of the nation. Private health care delivery has not managed to make much inroads and public provision of health care still predominates. The resulting system is overly complex and very inefficient.

Why should ANY taxpayer $ go to Planned Parenthood. Hollywood could fund it with private donations if they wanted to.

how about making welfare recipients take drug tests…social security disability recipients take agility tests…I know quite a few people that would flunk the drug test and totally surpass the agility tests…clearing the way for them to make a living on their own…maybe do some of those jobs that illegals have that Americans won’t do….defunding planned parenthood is a good start though.

Actually your boy Barry can steal Older People’s Money (savings ) thru the inheritance tax. And they only account for a percentage of the money he proposes stealing. The other groups that actually Payed Income Taxes, along with most Seniors make up the 47% of ACTUAL TAXPAYERS,. The 53% are made up of FED Dept of Education,Dept of Energy, and many other non essential Federal Gov Workers. I am not including our Military. Barry and his merry band of thieves will be out NOV2012

This is the best he could do – you got to respect all of that. Now he will be feeling better about his future too. It is always best to play your heart strings when time for music arrives.

So here it is, the model for the other states. Planned Parent Hood (who says they do not use the money for abortions) will now have to face a choise as to what services to cut. OR, the money they make from abortions will cover all the expences (includion consuling, bith control, mamagrams….). Oh thqat‘s right they don’t do mamagrams. So if they survive it proves they don’t need our tax dollars for what they do. And if they fold but the population survives it will prove that other resources will provide HONEST services. Either way the taxpayer is no longer on the hook to pay for Abortions!

@banjarmon thanks for the hard hitting examples.

Mitch Daniels has cut the size of the Indiana DMV and made it more efficient
He privatized the toll road taking a money loser and leveraging the proceeds from the lease to take the state from the red to the black. 1 BILLION dollar surplus this year. Can your state say that?
First state to ban money from plan parenthood
Just signed a bill to reduce the legal allowable late-term abortion back another month unless the mother’s health was at risk.
School vouchers for private schools to go along with this existing reform of education
He also cut funding to local municipalities requiring them to re-evaluate and cut the pork from their city budgets

Now tell me again, exactly why you think he is a RINO?
