Truly Bizarre: Russian Woman Dies…at Her Own Funeral

I‘m sure you’ve all heard the expression, “You’d be late to your own funeral.” Typically, the cliche is sarcastically thrown at anyone who tends to have a tardy streak. But, dying at your own funeral? That’s a new one. In a story that seems too bizarre to be true, a Russian woman passed away…at her own funeral.
Here’s how the story goes: Fagilyu Mukhametzyanov, 49, a resident of Kazan, Russia, was incorrectly declared dead by doctors (a big mistake, no?). While being prepared for burial, the woman woke up, screamed and then had a heart attack when she realized where she was. Daily Mail has more:
As mourning relatives filed past her open coffin the supposedly dead woman suddenly woke up and started screaming as she realised where she was…
Devastated husband Fagili Mukhametzyanov, 51, had been told his wife had died of a heart attack after she’d collapsed at home suffering from chest pains.
Mr Mukhametzyanov said: ‘Her eyes fluttered and we immediately rushed her back to the hospital but she only lived for another 12 minutes in intensive care before she died again, this time for good.
Her husband is, understandably, angered by the bizarre circumstances. He feels as though hospital personnel could have saved her had they not wrongly pronounced her dead the first time. The hospital’s response? “We are carrying out an investigation.” Typical.
