Trump Explains His Pro-Life Conversion: ‘I’m a Very Honorable Guy’

If a Republican presidential candidate isn’t socially conservative, it’s probably unlikely he (or she) will get the 2012 nomination. So the fact that Donald Trump appeared on CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network) with reporter David Brody to “Trumpet” his pro-life stance, and how he arrived there, isn’t surprising. But the way he did arrive at that conclusion is interesting.
In the interview, Trump says he became pro-life after hearing about a friend’s abortion experience:
Transcript via The Brody File:
David Brody: “Evangelicals do want to feel secure that they’re going to have a nominee that’s going to at least be solid on those issues, those social issues. Someone that’s not just going to cut and move on.”
Donald Trump: “One thing about me, I’m a very honorable guy. I’m pro-life, but I changed my view a number of years ago. One of the reasons I changed — one of the primary reasons — a friend of mine’s wife was pregnant, in this case married. She was pregnant and he didn’t really want the baby. And he was telling me the story. He was crying as he was telling me the story. He ends up having the baby and the baby is the apple of his eye. It‘s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to him. And you know here‘s a baby that wasn’t going to be let into life. And I heard this, and some other stories, and I am pro-life.”
David Brody: “So those stories did change you, they came around and changed you?”
Donald Trump: “They changed me. Yeah, they changed my view as to that, absolutely.”

Posted on April 8, 2011 at 11:50amWhat is motivating Donald, to speak to all this controversy? It obvious he wants to be TOP dog, but that still doesn’t answer the question why these issues? First he goes after Obamas being a legitimate candidate/ president birth issue, now “pro choice” . In a sense he’s alienating demographics, does he think these are the issues that drive the Tea Party? If that’s the case, he is a BOZO.

Posted on April 8, 2011 at 11:40amAs a Mormon, I am constantly amazed how many principles of our faith that Harry Reid throws under the bus. He is willing to throw out a budget resolution over funding for Planned Parenthood, despite that our faith has consistently been opposed to abortion. How can any member of our Church, in good conscience, plan to shut down the government because he is so committed to abortion? Whatever Harry Reid stands FOR is almost 180 degrees opposite to what our faith stands AGAINST. I keep hoping that one day, he’ll go too far and the Church will excommunicate him! Then, the faithful will recognize him as the wolf that he is!
Harry Reid is more committed to his progressive ideology than the gospel of Christ. He should know better, especially since his political ideology seems eerily reminiscent of what we know about Lucifer’s alternative plan for humanity in the pre-earth world. His politics always win out when a conflict exists between his ideology and his faith. And that’s ALL I need to know about him! He is a true wolf in sheep’s clothing!! He is a tare amongst the wheat!

Posted on April 8, 2011 at 12:56pmNot sure how your post turned from Trump to Reid, but I agree about your comments. I, however, am surprised that the LDS Chruch has not already taken an absolute stance regarding his policies and excommunicated him. What’s the hold up? Certainly the LDS’s have not been sitting in the wings politically. That was proven in California regarding marriage. So why the silence on such an “out front figure” like Reid? It’s baffling to say the least.

But I’m still skeptical of “the Donald” because 1) he endorsed Barack Obama for President 3 years ago, and 2) he’s just got too much ego to be a good president. Some humility would have made me feel better about him, but humility is NOT a word used to describe Donald Trump.

Posted on April 8, 2011 at 11:29amOk, so he wasn’t very eloquent relating the story. It certainly wasn’t well-rehearsed by Trump as he seemed to struggle a little to find the right words….But I used to be ambivalent about abortion until I miscarried my first pregnancy and wept for not only my loss but for the women that CHOOSE to abort, and most especially their babies. The heart begins to beat within 2-3 weeks of fertilization. Simply put, “ABORTION STOPS A BEATING HEART!” Abortion is a billion dollar business and that’s how we need to approach stopping it. Follow the money…..regulate the procedure to be “NOT FOR PROFIT” in ANY SETTING albeit PP or private clinics.

************************************
Here‘s a little taste of his feelings on this from his book ’The America We Deserve, he’s about 2 steps right of center on this, not Dirty Harry but not James Brady’s wife:
This is another issue where you see the extremes of the two existing major parties. Democrats want to confiscate all guns, which is a dumb idea because only law abiding citizens would turn in their guns and the bad guys would be the only ones left armed. The republicans walk the NRA line and refuse even limited restrictions.
I generally opposed gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun. With today’s internet technology we should be able to tell within seventy two hours if a potential gun purchaser/owner has a record “….. source: http://www.gunguys.com/?p=4083

Report Post »You’ve been drinking the anti-progressive Koolaid too long. Most progressives want equal rights, clean environment, corporate money out of politics, free speech, good public education. You can disagree on how to get there, but these are good principles. Where would we be if we didn‘t have previous generation’s “progressives” fighting and dieing for these things. Progressives don’t want to kill babies, that’s stupid, progressives don‘t want Big Goverment telling women what they can and can’t do. I don‘t like abortion but I don’t like the goverment telling women what to do with their life or the their unborn.

If you understood history you would just keep quiet. You know nothing about Margaret Sanger,Helen Keller, Woodrow Wilson and Hilter and the KKK among others…… If you did you would not vote “progressive”. One afternoon search of the facts would render any Democrat silent for fear of making an @ss of themselves. If you know history before it all gets revised then speak.
