Trump Says He Won’t Run for Prez: ‘Business Is My Greatest Passion’

Donald Trump has just announced he will not run for president.

Trump has been flirting with a presidential bid for months, traveling to early primary states like New Hampshire, and heckling President Barack Obama from afar. He is the second Republican in a matter of days to say no to a White House run. Mike Huckabee announced Saturday that he wouldn’t seek the presidency.

The full text of his statement is below, in which he says that if he ran he would have won:

For Immediate Release:
New York, New York: May 16, 2011

After considerable deliberation and reflection, I have decided not to pursue the office of the Presidency. This decision does not come easily or without regret; especially when my potential candidacy continues to be validated by ranking at the top of the Republican contenders in polls across the country. I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election. I have spent the past several months unofficially campaigning and recognize that running for public office cannot be done half heartedly. Ultimately, however, business is my greatest passion and I am not ready to leave the private sector.

I want to personally thank the millions of Americans who have joined the various Trump grassroots movements and written me letters and e-mails encouraging me to run. My gratitude for your faith and trust in me could never be expressed properly in words. So, I make you this promise: that I will continue to voice my opinions loudly and help to shape our politician’s thoughts. My ability to bring important economic and foreign policy issues to the forefront of the national dialogue is perhaps my greatest asset and one of the most valuable services I can provide to this country. I will continue to push our President and the country’s policy makers to address the dire challenges arising from our unsustainable debt structure and increasing lack of global competitiveness. Issues, including getting tough on China and other countries that are methodically and systematically taking advantage of the United States, were seldom mentioned before I brought them to the forefront of the country’s conversation. They are now being debated vigorously. I will also continue to push for job creation, an initiative that should be this country’s top priority and something that I know a lot about. I will not shy away from expressing the opinions that so many of you share yet don’t have a medium through which to articulate.

I look forward to supporting the candidate who is the most qualified to help us tackle our country’s most important issues and am hopeful that, when this person emerges, he or she will have the courage to take on the challenges of the Office and be the agent of change that this country so desperately needs.

Thank you and God Bless America!

Donald J. Trump

So I agree with what he said; however, don’t know if he planned this from the start or not — but doesn’t matter. Interesting combo. Maybe a Marco Rubio thrown in for good measure. It was obvious to Donald that he couldn’t possibly win the election. I think what the citizens of this country are trying to communicate to anyone who gives a darn is that we are sick of the same faces. We want someone who has fresh new ideas to deal with our massive problems…and we want those ideas and principles to reflect and embrace the ideals of those who wrote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. We want politicians who don’t give a darn about the upcoming election but rather are concerned about the country, striving to do what is right for the country. So far, I see one man in the national spotlight who exemplifies that model. Paul Ryan. He may not be completely right, but he is the only one who has cast fears of not being re-elected aside understanding the need to change course NOW. Bravo Mr Ryan. You have my vote simply for having a plan that will start the ball rolling. Already we see politicians caving in. I have talked to more Americans that have said they are willing to write a check to help pay down the deficit if the check actually went to pay down the deficit. How sad that John Q Public is ready and willing to sacrifice but our leaders refuse to lead.

If he does keep poking, I hope it’s about the economy and why so many businesses refuse to invest in the US (we have one of the highest corporate taxes of any westernized nation, far more expensive regulations, etc., etc.). He‘s well aware of these issues and I think he’d do a good job of representing them.

Overall, I don‘t know if I’m glad or not that‘s he’s not running. I certainly wouldn’t want him to run as an independent, but if he were to run in the Republican primary he might be able to bring more light to business issues. Oh well…

So everything he said about the country being more important that his personally wants or needs are a bunch of New York bullcrap go figure. It doesn’t much matter as he never was the one to pick this country back up anyhow. I just hope a good candidate comes to light soon, *cough*Mr.West*cough*…excuse me. But as I was saying hopefully a true leader will soon stand up to over throw this socialist POTUS we currently have.

Holy smokes! How could he do this to us? We need him! He can make big money any other time- so why not run? What are we going to do?

I am never going to use his casinos any more.

First,Obama would not beat Trump. Second, have fun with another politician. Third, better hope that Obama doesn’t get in office. Sometimes quickly sometimes slowly. That is how sooon things can get real messy.

Too Bad for the USA, Donald. You are abandoning us to Gingrich, Ron Paul and Santorum??

There is NO ONE who takes the bully pulpit like you. What short hairs do they have you by? I hope this is part of your longer term strategy to RUN.

Trump was invaluable for killing the “birther” issue. Thank you Mr. Trump. Frank Luntz called it early and has to be feeling good about his prediction.

I figured he was just seeking the added publicity being the showman that he is. Maybe like others said he will continue to gain headlines in attacking Obama as many were listening to what he had to say even though the birther issue was the wrong one. I would have love him to expound more on the economy concerning inflation, the falling dollar and the high price of gasoline.

Trump is the best example of what is wrong in the US. Someone who made money the old fashion way, that is his father bankrolled him…..and now spends his time feeding his absurd ego and basking in cheap celebrity status. Geez there are people who actually think Brittany Spears is relevant too.

Well again, the chips fall in favor of Ron Paul.

I like all these constitutional “tea partiers” on this site, yet they don’t support Ron Paul, because he is “kooky”, and refer to sound bites created by staged media trying to downplay him.

YET they want to pick and CHOOSE what parts of the constitution they like, and or support. All in all, they would rather have a “strong” America president, that will continue to lead us down the path of destruction, versus a “strong on principle, consistent, and truly constitutional candidate”.

I cannot wait until you all vote for Romney, because you “are scared of constitutional Ron Paul” and this country goes to hell.

Oh i forgot, just in case Blazers here forgot Ron Paul’s policies.

      1) Consistency, ALWAYS votes pro constitution!

      2) Wants to end expensive pointless wars, which not only don’t provide security, merely cost American capital and lives.

      3) Wants to return to sound money, and abolish the Federal Reserve, because the culprit, unlike what neo cons and liberals will tell you for our debt/deficit is not each party, it is the freedom each party is allowed to spend via the Federal Reserve.

      4) Understands economics/the business cycle: HE PREDICTED THE 2008 HOUSING BUBBLE!

      5) Wants to return Liberty to the people again, taking morale judgments about individuals lives away from the government, and back to the people.

      6) Wants to end the welfare state, reducing if not eliminating welfare programs that do more harm than good for this country, creating moral hazard.

The facts are in, the choice is clear Ron Paul 2012!

Sad to hear you pulled out. Your reasons are honest. That’s why I liked you. Now do us a favor. Encourage Rep Allen West to run. Or support Herman Cain. As you yourself have been a target of the ‘racism’ campaign of the Dems, these men would negate their tactics. Please support them. Time to put up a black candidate of their own.

Oh, for all you theocratic blazers out there:

      http://www.youtube.com/user/JFTDDS#p/f/0/4UVxkFAHQSo

Ron Paul doesn’t speak about faith in public forums to earn votes, he lives it.

It is interesting to me how people on this site feel that we can travel the world pointing guns at people’s head spreading Christianity.

Christianity is a choice, and it must be chosen by the individual, people have to accept Christ as their personal savior. If they hear the message, but they do not act on it, you are told according to the bible to continue on.

Even God himself promotes freedom of choice, because he wants YOU to choose him over all things material, not because someone dictated some theocratic laws you must live by.

Vote principle people, and stop falling into the political trap.
