TSA Agent Confiscates Frosted Cupcake

The “gel-like” frosting of a cupcake one woman tried to bring on a plane at a Las Vegas Airport crossed the line for Transportation Security Administration officers, who say it constituted a security risk, and denied allowing the woman to take the cupcake back home to Boston.

Rebecca Hains of Peabody tells the Associated Press that a TSA agent in Las Vegas confiscated her frosted cupcake because he thought the icing could be explosive. The TSA has restrictions on taking liquids and gels onto flights to prevent them from being used as explosives.

“In general, cakes and pies are allowed in carry-on luggage,” TSA spokesperson James Fotenos told WCVB, adding they were looking into why this cupcake was confiscated.

Hains says she had passed through security at Boston’s Logan International Airport with two cupcakes packaged in jars on her orignal trip out west, enjoying the first cupcake so much that she decided to save the second for her return flight.

Hains contacted the cupcake company, Wicked Good Cupcakes of Cohasset, which said it will ship her a new batch free of charge.

“Apparently we’re a tasty, terrorist threat. I guess we were also amazed at what can pass through security in one airport, but not in another,” Brian Vilagie of Wicked Good Cupcakes told WCVB.

    I am reminded of an episode of M*A*S*H where the “Frank Burns” character squeezed all his toothpaste out thinking the Commie North Koreans filled the tube full of explosives..They must higher these “Frank Burns” types as TSA agents….It is only going to get worse folks.

      Last time I flew about a year ago, they didn’t confiscate my cupcakes but they sure did feel them out. Needless to say I won’t get on a plane anymore. Anywhere I need to go, I can drive.

    Lord knows we need to confiscate “Rebecca’s” cupcakes rather than ask Muhammad a few extra questions. I do hope all of you bitching about it are planning to do something about it. Unite under Ron Paul and send a message that this must stop now, or it will only get worse.

    Most of the “Agents” are totally inept and ignorant and could never make it in any real legitimate law enforcement roll….. they make it up as they go….. and I wonder how that jerk liked the cupcake…….

      Most of the agents have previously been military active duty or in some type of law enforcement. Granted, not all of them use common sense 100% of the time, but they are just doing their job. If you don’t want to follow the rules to fly, drive your car. She could have put it through the e-ray machine…and why in the world did she have it in a glass bottle? I would have been suspicious of that. This lady was trying to get attention…and she sure did! May I remind you that there are some very respectable, honest, intelligent people working for TSA. I fly constantly and have never run into this at all. It has to be a setup.

      I saw a youtube video of a TSA. agent, who thought his “victim” (who was a soldier on leave) and himself were off camera, whip out his baton “with a flourish” and proceed to beat this soldier (he was in civilian attire) until other tsa goons arrived and one tasered the soldier multiple times.

      TSA, the EPA, and the IRS …. three powerfull entities that should be disbanded. I wonder how soon the TSA will be checking passenger profiles with various agencies prior to their flight to see if they have a warrant out for them. What’s next? Oh I know …. (terrorists) road blocks/check points on all our system roads….

    I wish I shared your confidence that Biden’s “not our enemy, per se” is growing frustrated.

    I strongly suspect that the first time one of them manages to smuggle a pound of explosives in their bowels, successful ignition or not, times are going to get even more interesting. They can’t x-ray everybody.

    I’m no conspiracy guy, but I’ll bet it will trigger a biometric security tsunami. If you want to go anywhere, they’ll have your number. Of course, there’ll be some agency that will be entrusted with all this data, so why should anyone be worried if they have nothing to hide? As it is, everybody loves and trusts the infallible Department of Homeland Security, the Attorney General’s office, etc., right?

    What say will we have? I don’t know. Perhaps a restroom “ocupado” movement is in the offing?

      You hit the nail on the head! None of us, the voters and citizens, had a say in how the TSA enfoeces its policies no less that this maniac government program began in the first place. Thank your Congressmen and Senators along with the executive branch. They invented the TSA legislated it and hired an administrator who in turn hired the agents. WE THE SHEEPLE HAD NO SAY SO WHATSOEVER!

      You don’t see Israeli airport security strip searching grannies in wheelchairs or patting down 4 year olds. Israeli security focuses on the threat and they use profiling to thwart any threat. Of coures, that would never go in this country. We have to adhere to the PC liberal media and a bunch if PC idiots in Washington who are afraid that if they insult someone, well you know the answer.

      Can it be fixed? Not by the current bunch running Washington. We need to CLEAN HOUSE in 2012!

      Worse yet, this TSA genius most assuredly had this woman throw the cupcake in a garbage can right next to everyone in the security area. Yea, you can’t take the cupcake (or water bottle, or toothpaste tube, etc) on the plane because it could be a bomb, but lets dispose of it where hundreds of people and tsa agents are hanging out.

      TSA has never kept you safe, only under government-sanctioned control.

    The agents do not have an interpretive role. They function by a uniform code of conduct. One agent doing what he wants and another not doing the same, is not how it works. Someone needs to supervise these idiots. Cupcakes… give me a freakin break.

      This is all preparing us to get so fed up with these assinine “screening” procedures (the manufactured problem) that soon, they will offer the “solution”. Your own personal RFID chip, with all of your personal information – medical-finacial- that will breeze you through security without getting groped or humiliated or irradiated or delayed or your stuff taken. And ya know? Soon the sheeple will be begging for it! The more rediculous the security checks, the faster we will get there, unless we ALL band together and STOP FLYING for a month or so. Fat chance of that happening.

    The TSA agents are all humans. Each one has their own standard of work ethic. I’m sure in their training they were taught what to allow and what could be confiscated as a possible threat. Some take their work more seriously than others. No harm done here as far as I’m concerned. Muhammad and Ahmed are growing more frustrated each day, seeing how difficult and risky it is to get a bomb disguised as a cupcake, even stuffed in your underwear, past the TSA screeners.       The problem with your logic is that, unfortunately, Mohammed & Ahmed are waved on through the check point without being groped or harassed, because we wouldn’t want the widdle TSA agents to be accused of “profiling”. Meanwhile, Granny in a wheelchair has her knitting needles taken away & is forced to pull down her adult diaper while the 4 year old behind her is harassed & poked & prodded. Oh yes, I can see how Mohammed & Ahmed would see how difficult it is for them, or any burqua wearing woman, to smuggle explosives onto a flight. The prime suspects & the very reason for this garbage from the TSA are being given a pass because no one wants to have the RACIST or PROFILING finger pointed at them.
