TV Legend Chuck Woolery Spoofs Buffett’s Tax Stance in New PSA

Legendary television personality Chuck Woolery is well-known for hosting a slew of American game shows. From “Wheel of Fortune” to “Love Connection,” his wide-spanning exposure has made him a familiar face for decades.
And now, in a comical, new PSA of sorts, Woolery takes on the contentious issue of taxation. But rather than railing on with platitudes and long-winded lectures, the television veteran takes a humorous tone in his two and a half minute video.
Aside from calling billionaire Warren Buffett and actor Matt Damon out for their stances on taxation, he sarcastically encourages the wealthy to voluntarily pay higher taxes (he even gives them directions regarding where they can send monies to help lower the nation’s debt):
“To those suffering with the unbearable pain of obnoxiously high back balances or low-back pain from sitting on overstuffed wallets. I say forget waiting for Congress to do something. Let’s act now!”

Look at your numbers again….and recount. They are not on tract for 3 Billion….they are on track for 3 Million. You have 7 numbers before the decimal point….that means millions.
3 MILLION…..Or….about 1/6th of what Matt Damon made for his last movie.

Posted on September 13, 2011 at 4:26pm@JZS – LOL No, that’s not what makes someone a Communist. (and you are wrong about Regan, but let me address your confusion) A Communist would be someone more along the lines of 1) implements marxist policies 2) raised by radicals 3) mentored by a communist 4) attended church of radical socialist and listened 5) hired at least one or more communist/marxist/socialist to work for him 6) works to undermine Capitalism and redistribute the wealth that does not belong to him. Not picking anyone in particular, of course. That isn’t the exact definition of a Communist, but it’s closer than what you had.

Posted on September 13, 2011 at 7:11pm@ JZS Title 26 of the United States Code (aka “Internal Revenue Code”) was significantly changed in 1986 to eliminate a whole lot of “tax shelters” (often structured as limited partnerships). For most of Reagan’s term in office, those methods of reducing taxes were available — and used — by all sorts of high income Americans. The formula for “tax fairness” in 1986 was to eliminate many “loopholes” while reducing tax rates. Seems to me that they kept too many deductions in the Code and didn’t lower rates enough. Some politicians are of a similar mindset.

I am not going to debate the accuracy of the figures in your link, but we all know that Politifact / St. Petersburg Times, is know to lean to the left. (Thought I would use one of your tactics)
But we’ll say the numbers are correct for now. Look at the rates when Reagan took office, and then again when he left office .From 70% down to 28%. Quite an accomplishment considering he had a democrat house for both terms.
His policies set us up for the great economic run we had. You know, the one that you guys like to give Clinton all the credit for.
But the real question should be this. Do past rates have anything at all to do with what the current rates should be?
If the answer to that question is yes, then I say we go back to the original 1913 rates.

To be fair, Beck visited Wilmington on December 15. You stated the article was from today’s paper when actually they just have the current date atop the page. The article was published on 1/21/11, roughly 5 weeks after he attended, which could explain why they hadn’t received money at that time. I am not criticizing you because I believe it was an honest mistake. Still, the overall tone of your link was gratitude towards Glenn from the people of Wilmington.
I look for an up to date story like the link you posted but fear its life as being relevant to the media may have passed as none discussed as of yet if he has still not gave his part. I also notice a lot of liberal sites accusing him of charging for $125 per ticket which is incorrect as noted it you link.
In all, if he has yet to give them the donations, I will side with you. I will look for more info.

Posted on September 13, 2011 at 8:51pmBilly you make a good point or two, but Reagan‘s legacy isn’t all it’s cracked up to be (although I was alive then and liked Reagan, if not his policies). The budget deficit tripled under Reagan. Yes, he cut income taxes, but seeing the deficit spiral out of control, he raised business taxes in ‘82, payroll taxes in ‘83 and energy taxes in ’84.
http://www.forbes.com/2010/02/02/barack-obama-ronald-reagan-budget-taxes-opinions-contributors-rob-shapiro.html
The only other point I’ll make is this. Bush lowered taxes dramatically two separate time. You know the theory, lowering taxes creates jobs and improves the economy. Except the Bush tax cuts did neither. Not even an upward blip. The only thing that went up was the deficit (and the economy crashed).
The only real effect was to make rich people richer, and the poor and middle class poorer (and we’re poor enough already). Republicans say they want to help the “job creators” but I suspect, after Bush, they know in their hearts that is a fallacy. The only job they are considering is the one they’ll keep with all the campaign donations from rich people.

Posted on September 13, 2011 at 8:53pm@JZS – Sure thing. The basic definition of a marxist is someone who buys into the analytical (but not practical) philosophy of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels in which class struggle plays a central role in understanding society’s allegedly inevitable development from so-called oppressive capitalism to a socialist and ultimately classless society. We know from history his ideology doesn’t work and has made the world a worst place. In the end, the elites gain the power and the riches. Socialism is nothing more than oppressive governmental control of it’s citizens. Marxists are quick to denounce the wealth of capitalist country citizens, however Socialist leaders all very wealthy lives.

Even the Chinese and the Russians are becoming more and more capitalistic (although Russian swung to unrestrained capitalism and is know swinging back). Yes, everybody knows. That’s why the contention that Democrats are “Marxist” is ludicrous and is nothing other than a baseless insult that appeals to no one except the abjectly ignorant.
I love this statement of yours: “In the end, the elites gain the power and the riches.” That does sound what is going on right now in the US thanks to the TP. Right now 400 people own half the wealth of the United States.
http://www.politifact.com/wisconsin/statements/2011/mar/10/michael-moore/michael-moore-says-400-americans-have-more-wealth-/
