Twitter Suspends Account of Group that Created Viral ‘If I Wanted America to Fail’ Video During Earth Day, Reinstates at Midnight Without Explanation

Twitter has been used by many groups to achieve ends that subvert, circumvent or impugn many world governments. Yet one viral Youtube video which savagely attacks the Obama administration and its liberal allies for pursuing actions that are (according to the video) designed to make America to fail appears to have gone too far for the administrators of Twitter, who suspended the account belonging to the group responsible for it (Americans for Limited Government) today without an explanation.

Michelle Malkin has already weighed in on the suspension:

This is just bizarre. The Kill Zimmerman account was left untouched for weeks before finally being taken down.
What is Free Market America guilty of? Advocating free markets. Is that against Twitter terms of service?

I’ll update with any word from Twitter about the suspension.

And here’s Adam Bitely of Americans for Limited Government itself making their case:

On Earth Day, the official website for Free Market America was launched and [its] Facebook and Twitter components started to come to life as well. The first video put out by Free Market America, “If I wanted America to fail”, got over 120,000 hits in less than 36 hours!

But you would never know that if you tried to follow the Twitter page–it was suspended by Twitter midway through the day on Earth Day![...]

When it comes to using Twitter as a tool for promoting your political cause, you better hope that Twitter approves of your message or else you will be censored. So watch out, you could be next!

But enough build-up – you probably are wondering just what the video was that started all this mess. It may interest you to know that the Blaze blog posted it back when it first debuted on the weekend. However, here it is, reproduced and unedited, in all its glory:

In any case, one unintended corollary to the video may be “I wanted Twitter to fail, I’d alienate an entire wing of the United States political spectrum.”

UPDATE: Americans for Limited Government’s Twitter has been reinstated, also without explanation.

      Problemsolver, I have found that the majority of people who post here, just belive that progressives are just in the Democrat Party and that it is just the Democrats that have caused all our problems.       Twitter claims to stand upon the principle of the First Amendment and claims in favor of free speech anywhere in the world, and especially in parts of the world they deem to be repressive with free speech rights.

      You’re correct. While they have a right to deny service to anyone, they have no right to deny service without looking like a bunch of G.D. hypocrites.

      This isn‘t the first time they’ve denied service to a Conservative or the Conservative cause. It’s a pattern for them. They’re entirely willing to allow racists post all kinds of hatred, people taking the faces of twitter users off their avatars and putting them into literal pictures of cross burnings, and on nazi flags, threated the death of George Zimmerman and I’m sure hundreds if not thousands of other people, and they even trend racist hash tags, but *this* is too much for them?

      Enough with the Libertarian “they have a right to…” BS. I’m a Libertarian-leaner myself, but you and I only have a right to speak apparently when we’re given one by a bunch of San Francisco Leftists deciding what is proper speech and what is not.

      You’re advocating that they have a right to grant and/or supress free speech, for God’s sake!

      Armed Patriot, I do not care what you do. As for me, and many, many others, we will vote for liberty, or we will not vote at all. Romney will not win, sorry. The GOP cannot win this on their own, this is a proven fact. I am not sure why the GOP wants to lose, but they continue to put up liberal candidates.

      Anybody who really pays attention to Glen knows that there are plenty of progressives in the republican party. I would even say Mitt romney is one but at least he is not as bad as Obama and if we have to deal with four years of him rather than Obama then Im in and then maybe we can get someone in that is better. In order to do that we need to continue to teach people history and our constitution!!!!

The only way to stop the madness is to put someone in that will not listen to them, will not be bought by them, someone who actually believes in the Constitution and ALL the Bill of Rights. Romney is not that person. Ron Paul is the only one that is running that is all that. It is not too late for Americans to wake up to this and elect Ron Paul. It can be done.       With enough reports, twitter accounts are automatically suspended until an administrator can review them.

      Clearly, Twitter is honest in their dealings as is evident by the fact that they re-activated the account.

      Also, Obama has nothing to do with what Twitter does and does not do. They are a private company and can do as they please.

      Lastly, I find it hysterical you can denounce “liberal” technologies, yet watch a video posted on YouTube (owned by Google), displayed because of an article about Twitter, using a website made in WordPress.

    This video is fantastic !! I urge every one here to re-post, re-tweet, e-mail, facebook it etc etc etc. every where. pass it on to your friends and family and ask them to do the same. I also urge Mr. Beck and his mighty machine to create and provide free short and smart videos like this one for us to distribute. If you believe in the power of truth, help us spread it like a virus to the confused masses. GBTV is a wonderful thing, but it informs the choir that already knows and/or believes. Truth must flood all parts of media.
