Two Business ‘Heavy Hitters’ Sympathize With Occupy: ‘We Really Did Let Down a Lot of People’

The financial news site Bloomberg aired an interview with Larry Fink and Bill Gross as part of their “Heavy Hitters series.”
For those unfamiliar with the two businessmen, here’s a quick rundown.
Larry Fink is the chairman and chief executive officer of BlackRock, a international investment management mega-firm.
Incidentally, BlackRock also happens to be the single largest money-management firm in the world.
Bill Gross is an American financial manager who co-founded Pacific Investment Management (PIMCO).
He is “the nation’s most prominent bond investor,” according to the New York Times.
He also manages PIMCO’s “Total Return” fund which is the world’s largest bond fund and fifth largest mutual fund.
Needless to say, these two men are undoubtedly knowledgeable of the financial sector. But does that business knowledge necessarily translate into an understanding of cultural movements and the worries of middle-class America?
During the course of their Bloomberg interview, Occupy Wall Street became the topic of discussion. As you will see in the clip below, the two financial giants had some very, very interesting perspectives.
To put it quite simply: they support Occupy Wall St.
“To them, the protests aren’t strange — Americans have been through this before. This is just what happens in a country when people are unhappy, and they have a lot to be unhappy about,” writes Business Insider, and then gives us these highlights:
- 0:28 — Fink: “I’m actually very happy with Occupy Wall Street because I think that actually for the first time in 3 years we may have fringe element symmetry...The Tea Party shaped the 2010 elections in a very big way and frankly I was personally surprised that we didn’t have a left wing element…I’m not saying I agree with one side or the other, I agree with a lot of fringe elements and what they’re trying to say.”
- 1:29 — Fink: “We have to admit, as members of the financial press and the financial community…Washington…we really did let down a lot of people… To resolve this we have to admit it.”
- 2:23 — Gross: “(I have) Sympathy for labor as opposed to capital…Wall Street as opposed to Main Street…that’s the 1% versus the 99 can basically be differentiated in that way. For a long time, for 20 or 30 years, capital has benefitted at the expense of labor…How can one not sympathize with their predicament?…To not have sympathy with Main Street as opposed to Wall Street is to have blinders.“
- 3:43 — Gross: “The fact is that Washington is dominated by K Street and it‘s dominated by finance and contributions from large corporations which don’t have the interests of Main Street.
Watch for yourself below:
Although one feels compelled to agree that Washington has indeed failed to take responsibility for the financial crash, could it be that the pair drew an unfair connection between the more disciplined and principled Tea Party (no arrests, riots, or public defecation) and the Occupy Wall Street crowd (numerous arrests and acts of violence)?

unlike the tea party spontaneous grass roots events – this occupy movement is a direct result of communists taking over our government and the governments of the middle eastern world!

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 12:22amwhy assume these guys are conservatives? Is Warren Buffet? Anyways, virtually all TEA party people think that the bailouts were wrong. That is a point of agreement ya big dummy. TEA party does not support corporate overlords, that’s just dopey. We’re just not ANTI-capitalists. Don’t try that silly “anti-crapitalist” moniker. Profit is good, and can be done in morally without screwing anyone. We also don’t trust the gooberment to fix the very problems they created.
You spew a partisan argument that is based on a flawed premise. BTW, have you stopped beating your wife?

These two uber-crony, klepto-capitalists are strikingly obvious tools of the global left. I saw it in their first statements. Read the article again! And again! And again! Then read world political history covering at least the last 101 years. Then read the article again! Until you see it! The globalist-left always work toward a conflict between labor and capital, until they can justify a cleansing or purge, if you will. You, therefore have a choice to make. Side with the global-leftists or stand up for this Country and its Constitution! Now, go and take a Time Out and do the homework, then come back here for some adult dialogue.

Posted on November 22, 2011 at 6:53pmIt appears from the statements that Fink and Gross aren‘t agreeing with OWS’s demands..they‘re simply applauding what they believe is the left’s “Tea Party”. Happy to disappoint both Fink and Gross as OWS degenerates into the all too familiar lefty protests of property destruction, disruption and filth and loses more and more public sentiment on the way. By the time this reaches it’s ultimate conclusion democrats will be running from OWS like OWSers from jobs..and baths.

Posted on November 22, 2011 at 5:51pmHey, Fink!!! Dingbat!!! If you REALLY KNEW anything about the two movements, (Occupy & Teaparty) you would know by the sheer numbers the following:
Occupy is the 1%: THOSE ARE “FRINGE” NUMBERS.
Teaparty is a signifigant grassroots movement. Compare several hundred people at a time to 1.5 Million in Washington DC, and a LANDSLIDE in 2010. THOSE ARE “MAJORITY” NUMBERS, Bud.

This would prove that they‘re really contrite and we’d find out if OWS really wants a job or if they just want a free lunch.

These are just lefty businessmen looking for a political bloc like the tea parties. As OWS drags on and more and more people dislike it OWS will become an albatross around the democrats’ necks. I‘d be curious to see if the put in money to Van Jones’ aspirations to create a political wing of OWS. That is..if OWS hasn’t become utterly toxic by that time.

Posted on November 23, 2011 at 1:02amyou have a point. Obama can and will make Wall street do his biding, main street is just considered “a speed bump”. The global community is all set to go. Both the Occupiers and the TEA party are irrelevant, just entertainment for the Soros supporters. Does anyone really believe what these two polar opposite groups represent will have any impact on the controlers of the system? Follow the money, see were it flows, looks like investment firms and those who can legally trade w/inside information and are able to pass regulations, laws and such. I read post against the TEA party, post against the occupy party, pros cons tell you all, it don’t make a lick of difference. Only God can help us now. So buy your 50lb of rice and store it and pray God will have mercy on our souls.
