Two Firefighters Dead, Over Two Million Acres Burned, 400 Homes Destroyed. . . But It‘s Not A ’Disaster.’

Imagine the response from the Federal government if the entire state of Maryland, all of it, was engulfed in a gigantic, uncontrolled wildfire. And the next week, all of Rhode Island was burned to a crisp… More than two million acres of land burned, 400 homes destroyed and at least two firefighters lost their lives trying to stop the worst wildfires in almost one hundred years.
Do you think the President would be visiting the area, declaring it a ‘disaster’ and providing truckloads of aid and support? Of course he would.
But this is not about Maryland or Rhode Island. This is about the state of Texas. Since January, Texas has been experiencing a drought like nothing they have seen in a century. The lack of rain and dry brush have created ideal conditions for wildfires. And the state has not really hit the peak of ‘wildfire season.’
The current details on the Texas Wildfires:
- Two firefighters have died battling the wildfires
- 2.2 million acres burned in over 7000 different fires
- 400+ homes destroyed
Governor Rick Perry has requested that the state be declared a Federal disaster area, which would allow them to access needed financial assistance. This request was first delayed and then denied.
Listen to Gov. Perry’s interview with Blaze friend and syndicated radio host Joe Pagliarulo.

Posted on May 5, 2011 at 11:11pmHey STU PEDASO, I gotta idee how ta hep y’all out there in Texas. Put together a system of pumps and valves and pipes and reservoirs to remove water from flooded or rising rivers in one area of the country and send it to those areas that NEED the dang stuff. Like Texas for example, or maybe New Mexico or Arizona. Them places is sure dry. It’ll cost a heapa bucks to do it, but I think that having, water when you need it where you need it just might justify the expense. It would also lessen the need to BLOW UP A DANG LEVEE that we paid good money to build, so‘s other people won’t lose their homes, lives and jobs. This ain’t rocket science. I know, cause I ain’t no rocket scientist. But, dangitall hit makes sense. Doing this would put a lot of people to work and you can get a lot of different types of pumps that don’t use anything except wind, sun, or water to work. Green Jobs! The CRAP OF ENGINEERS don’t even need to be involved. Good thing too. Lookit the job they been doin’ wif flood control as it is.

Listen, most of the fire departments here in texas are volunteer fire departments which all help each other out anytime. Fund-raising is done with fish frys, barbeques and selling chances on donated hunting equipment etc.
Anyone wants to know how to help with funding should just pick a town in one of the fire areas and donate directly to the vfd.

Posted on May 6, 2011 at 8:39amApparently you weren’t here when the fires broke out. Yes, fire-breaks are helpful when there are no winds to contend with. However, many people lost their homes because of 60 mile per hour wind gusts blowing fiery grass and tumble weeds into their wood structures, so no amount of clearing helped those people. WE WILL Survive without the Federal Government.

Posted on May 6, 2011 at 5:33pmRick Perry, all on his own, came up with his secession comments. He joined in with the Republican rants about the government spending too much money especially what they call hand outs. Perry went on about how well Texas was doing and how we didn’t need federal money. And now? Perry, along with Senators Hutchinson and Cornyn, are crying for the federal government to come bail them out so the State doesn’t have to pay for the damage from the wildfires. Sounds like they want a hand out to me.
FEMA is covering 75% of the costs and Rick Perry says that’s not enough!?! Perhaps Rick Perry should remember that it was Republicans who cut funding for FEMA. FEMA now has to decide who is more in need. Is there any doubt that the tornado stricken areas with the massive devastation and greater loss of life deserves more than our scrub land burning? Yes, we’ve had some lives and houses lost but nowhere near what Alabama has suffered.
What happened to the swaggering hot head who wanted to secede, who said we would be better off without the federal government? How can he complain about not getting enough money from the government when he constantly criticized the money that was given out by the government? I guess it makes a difference when you are the one in need.
Not that I expect this will cause Perry to understand how others, who are in need, feel. He would actually have to think of someone other than himself.
Nothing but pansies in Texas.

Report Post »Nice bible quote there moron, why is it considered crying if we pay our taxes just like any other state. I mean the federal government is still paying people that were harmed by Katrina but Texas can’t get any federal help? Yea we want to succede but we haven’t yet so we should receive federal money because of a natural disaster just like any other state, we pay into that disaster fund just like everyone else in this country. As far as you are concerned you can kiss my Texan ass.
