Two Mammoth Skeletons Found on One Farm…in Iowa

Earlier this year, scientists uncovered a nearly complete mammoth skeleton on an Iowan farm and more recently found the remains of a second. Researchers have confirmed these are two distinct mammoths, which suggests there could be more in the area.

According to Omaha.com, Jim North, a professor at William Penn University in Oskaloosa (the town where the farm is located), said the discovery of two individual mammoths in such close proximity is a rarity.

The bones were first spotted by a farmer’s children a couple years ago and the dig for the more recent mammoth discovery has been occurring since the spring. Omaha.com reports that over the weekend scientists from local universities and even local high school students were participating in the excavation of the more than 10,000-year-old bones.

Iowa’s KCCI reports that with this more recent find scientists will be remaining on the farm for a few more months to conduct further research. Sarah Horgen with the University of Iowa has more on the discovery:

“We have half of the skull here, and it’s facedown. You can see the tooth in the jaw,” Horgen said. “This is only part of the skull. It’s broken down on this side, so we’re hoping the other side is buried under the stump here. We’re not sure, we haven’t gotten there yet.”

[...]

“To have so many different parts of the body showing up at this point gives us some idea that there should be more around here,” said Horgen.

“Especially the tooth that appeared today… Teeth are the best for getting dates off the mammoth because of the enamel protecting the insides and also keeping out contaminants from the environment,” Horgen said.

Among the bones, fossilized remains of vegetation were identified as well. Naturalist Dave Brenzel with the Indian Creek Nature Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, said these provide further clues as to what the animal’s environment was like at the time.

“Two were entombed in their environment,” Brenzel said.

See more photos of the new mammoth bones here.

This ABC News report from June discusses the first skeleton found on the farm:

Anyone ever wonder who else is in the garden with God?

      HA HA HA HA!!!

You mean, . . . 4,400 years ago, . . . but somehow failed to destroy major cultures of the planet [Egyptians, building huge pyramids, . . . . Chinese dynasties]. That is truly laughable. . . . unless your comment was supposed to be sarcasm.

In all seriousness, . . . I am amazed that people still believe that geneologies of the bible, and the required time frame for the Noah flood, are so true that they completely overlook actual reality. Anyone who does needs to open THEIR eyes. . . . . . remove their “rose colored stained glass window” glasses.

If we‘re able to clone them and grow them in an Elephant’s womb, I am sure we should be able to bring them back to life. But there are so many complexities that could arise, that it will be going against the wishes of nature and the g-d who created her.

I find these bones all the time on my property in Missouri, but I never tell anyone because I don’t want a bunch of hippies running around my property tearing up my fields, digging big holes everywhere, and them trying to tell me what I can and can’t do here.

I just smack them with a sledge hammer so they look like normal rocks.

Maybe if you were a true Christian and read between the lines, you would understand. Evolution never happened. All of God’s creatures are exactly like they were from the beginning of time, 6000 years ago. This so-called “mammoth” is a fabrication conjured up by atheists and evolutionists to turn us away from God’s Truth. This is merely an elephant’s skeleton with a deformity. I choose Jesus as my Lord and Savior, not science.

I cannot tell if you’re serious or not, 1984. You SOUND sincere, but are SO misinformed that it comes off as sarcasm.

In case you’re not kidding, . . . . go to talkorigins.org to see MANY examples of why evolution has happened, and continues today [remember, small changes over LARGE amounts of time].

And I hate to be there bearer of uncomfortable news [for you, if you're truly serious here], but there are plenty of places in the christian bible that are untrue. . . . for example, “hail stored in heavenly warehouses for ”days of battle”, “lightning reporting to god for orders as per where it will strike the earth”, just to mention a couple. And , there were never “fire breathing dragons” or unicorns, either.

You may think that you are very very well bred. It just shows me how unlearned you are of your creators word. All knowledge comes from God and all of us were created by God at the same time. What do you think eternity means? To this point none of us are dead. Some like you are spiritualy dead but none the less still alive. No one has had judgment day yet. Some are taught that all flesh & blood came from one family…Adam & Eve which is ridiculous Here is an easy question for you, when Cain went into the land of Nod and took a wife where did she come from? Why isn‘t Cain listed in Adam’s geneology? Abel ins’t listed because his blood was shed. Only Seth is listed. So before you get jiggy read up on it and get the whole truth. Our Father is the Father of the living not the dead. To be a fact of truth those that have died in the flesh before us are still alive and waiting judgment.
    Example:Luke 16:19-31 Lazarus& the rich man.

Proves that this earth is millions of years old just like God tells us in His story. Check out Ashfall Nebraska to see what whole herds of animals that were found. Genesis says chapter 1:1 In the beginning. There is no date. Moses would have been instructed by God to put a date like He did in other places in His Word. Genesis 1:2 The earth BECAME void and without form reference Isaiah 45:18. God has never made anything without form and void. He is perfect and makes everything to function with His command. One day=1000 years(2nd Peter 3:8). Enough said and just think about what you read. His word is simple so don‘t complicate it with man’s traditions of self & pride.

      COMMONCents5,

Your whole argument is centralized on the assumption that it took God thousands of years to “create” earth. While your argument is ignorant in its approach you somehow try to justify the claim where it seems that creation is somehow linked with the “old world” theory of evolutionists, which you believe is scientific based. The theory of evolution (and creationism) is origin science and starts from a assumption to derive its theory. Just because some math wizards and biologists/anthropologists can build a technical “dating” process does not mean their assumption is correct. Merely it shows that we are nowhere near understanding our origin, because the claim was based on an assumption using an assumption to somehow prove that it is not an assumption.

Now if we could put the theory of evolution (the assumption) in a technical science (the science that math and engineering are in) model and get the results proving it, based on the factual analysis then you win, but for now deriving all of your data from a assumption with no true scientific venting is nothing more than a mere theory, just like creationism.

This is not to say game set match, this is merely to expose the lie that is propelled in our educational system to just get seeped into sheepish brains like yourself. I do not try to prove creationism by making up data models derived on my assumption just to come out with numbers that prove my assumption based on an assumption.

Remember, ACTUAL science is what’s important. Not those who build upon fallacies, then bring them to either a very young audience, or a gullible christian audience looking for ways to satisfy the cognative dissonance of what they hear from true science reviewed papers.
