‘Two Plus Two Equals Five’: Beck Asks Whether Team Obama Is Running a Campaign or a Cartoon

Team Obama on Thursday released an ad accusing Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney of being the type of politician who will say anything to get elected.

The video begins with a clip of Governor Romney quoting the president as saying, “If you got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”

The video then splashes the following across the screen: “The only problem? That’s not what [Obama] said.”

As we detailed in an article titled “Incredible New Obama Ad Tries to Prove Romney Misquoted Obama…by Playing the Exact Quote Romney Used,” Romney didn’t misquote the president. That’s exactly what he said in his infamous Roanoke, VA., speech.

The anti-Romney ad is so peculiar and so patently false, Glenn Beck was almost at a loss for words during his Monday show:

“[The Obama] campaign has gotten to a point that I’ve never seen in my lifetime,” Beck said, “it is becoming a cartoon.”

“I don’t think anybody has actually seen this. I don’t know of a time in American history — and I know the Wilson times — when a candidate and his supporters have not just lied about things and lied to your face … I’ve never seen it like this.”

Beck explained:

You know they’re lying, and they know you know they’re lying, and you have it on tape what they said, and then they take their lies and they tell you, “We didn’t say that.”  And they play their lies and say, “See? It doesn’t say that.”

You’re like: “Wait a minute, that’s exactly word-for-word what it says!”

Beck then played the Obama ad in question:

And this is what the president said:

“We are so deeply in to ‘1984‘ territory, it is shocking. I never understood ‘1984.’ I mean, I did, but it was like, there was nothing that I could really, truly connect to with ‘1984.’ Two plus two equals five,” Beck said, referencing a part in George Orwell’s dystopian masterpiece where the main characters discuss “Big Brother’s” (i.e. the government’s) ability to rewrite basic logic, “didn’t make sense to me. I couldn’t really, truly relate to it.”

“But that’s what they’re doing right now,” he added.

      While I realize GB rarely has a logical flow or rationally based context for most of his rantings, the PRESIDENT did and it makes more than a little sense. Large, medium and small businesses benefit from shipping ports, airports, highways, the Internet, education funding and virtually an unlimited amount of technological development that was funded through the DOD and other federal agencies. Many of the largest corporations would not have grown to the size they did without federal contracts, IBM, ATT and EDS come to mind. And without question the greatest contributor to the post WWII economic boom was the GI Bill or rather government stimulus through investment in the returning GIs. So GB, Billy, Mytheos, Jonathan, and all the other members of the conservative circle jerk can stop repeating a true LIE as to what was said and in what context.

      Only reason I know he‘s not is because I’m still here. Can’t rule him out as one of the 4 horsemen though (pestilence for instance). I still remember when he went to Mexico and the guy he shook hands with died of H1N1 a few days later. Also, when he was in Europe, a lot of folks came down with illnesses (that one could be just coincidence though). Finally it appears everytime he does an interview, flies like are attracted to the guy. You have to remember the shu fly moments he even had at the Colorado condolences speech he made Sunday. Just my observations. :)

      I disagree. I think he may be the false prophet. Another question is what your belief is re: the seven years of tribulation and the rapture. I believe those days will be during the first and second term of an American president. Haven’t thought through past that yet.

      He quoted George Orwell in 1984, not Glenn Beck. That book was written long before Glenn Beck was a common name and long before liberals found their so called Messiah in Pres. Obama.

      When it comes to politics I really think we need to throw everybody out of Washington and start over. Also, no more of this career politician bull crap. New laws should be created that you have to have actually worked at some point in your life (preferably military or own a business)to run for political office and put a cap on the number of years you can be in ANY office. I suggest 10 years, plus one run at the Presidency. That’s it.

      Brother Winston – Please note – there is no one on this site that claims Romney will solve all of our problems. Glenn doesn’t claim that either. In fact, Glenn, has challenged all of us to not let up if Romney is elected.

      When planning for battle, you must analyze what lies ahead of you (it’s almost never perfect by the way), formulate a plan, and get ALL OF YOUR TROOPS on board. Sometimes you have to gain control of a strategic ground before you can advance on the ultimate goal. If a small group of soldiers decide to break away and go straight for the goal, then they end up getting everyone killed.

      You and I agree on one thing. Romney isn’t going to fix the problem. However, the liberals/progressives/communist – whatever you want to call them – have been taking control of strategic grounds for the past 80 years, and only now are they going for the ultimate goal. Don’t let them be smarter than you. We can’t fix it with one election. Let’s gain some ground. Stand with us – or stand opposed – because if you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem.

      America has spoken and Ron Paul will not be conducting this battle. Now you have to choose whether or not you will be part of the solution, or if you are going to go off on your own and get us all killed.

Man plus woman equals wife- man plus man equals wife? You are way too harsh if you define marriage as it is commonly known, and you are thought to live in the stone age if you do not get on board.     You have seen the type: children in the checkout lane with parents, screaming, ‘mommy,mommy mommy, i want candy bars,’ long story short, after the kid hears ‘no’ a hundred times, the candy ends up in the cart.       I never said they didn’t have them. I said it doesn‘t make any sense that Saddam Hussein would give his enemy’s allies his stock pile of chemical weapons. Which could mean several different things. One namely it didn’t happen and the Syrians aquired them independently. Or two they really weren’t enemies. Or Syria and Iran aren’t as tight as the media would have us believe.

    Withe very passing day I am more shocked by our “leader’s” statements. He has drawn a defining line between personal enterprise and the government… without understanding that the government is funded by personal enterprise. What a shameful excuse for a leader. Instead of encouraging hard work and perseverance, he is decrying pride in one’s work. Horrible, horrible statement. And if it’s not what he meant, then he is stupid for having said it. Collectivism is as much a part of this society as individualism and efforts trying to purge it from our culture is just as misguided as any hippie utopian commune.

    Doublethink

    The keyword here is blackwhite. Like so many Newspeak words, this word has two mutually contradictory meanings. Applied to an opponent, it means the habit of impudently claiming that black is white, in contradiction of the plain facts. Applied to a Party member, it means a loyal willingness to say that black is white when Party discipline demands this. But it means also the ability to believe that black is white, and more, to know that black is white, and to forget that one has ever believed the contrary. This demands a continuous alteration of the past, made possible by the system of thought which really embraces all the rest, and which is known in Newspeak as doublethink. Doublethink is basically the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one’s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them.

    These are not the lies you are looking for…….how dare you use the annoited ones words against him, only HE that is master can lie. Besides Mr. Beck, if it wasn’t for the Govt., you would have no fingers to type with, and no pants, therefore you wouldn’t be allowed outside your house. So keep it up Mr Beck, you and Rush won’t have any pants before too long, and then where will you carry your gold. And tell Jeffy, he may be next….Stu already runs around with no pants on, so he is grandfathered in. Pat just sits around and screams.
