Two Pro Hockey Coaches Nearly Came to Blows During Last Night’s Playoff Game

The New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils do not like each other. They’ve regularly started games this season by immediately fighting, and the bad blood is almost always boiling. So the only shock regarding their current playoff series is not that something happened regarding a questionable shot and the coaches nearly coming to blows, but rather that it took three games for it to happen.
In the third period of Tuesday’s game four of the Eastern Conference finals, former Devil and current Ranger Mike Rupp “sucker punched,” as ESPN calls it, his former teammate, Devils goalie Martin Brodeur. That led to a scrum, which led to an exchange of words between Devils coach Peter DeBoer and Ragers coach John Tortorella, which led to finger pointing, which led to leaning over the benches and nearly coming face-to-face.

Posted on May 23, 2012 at 8:16amWow. This story is blown out of proportion. They didn’t even come close to blows. And the one guy only pushed the goalie on is upper chest. Bumping and pushing in hockey….go figure. The coaches coming to blows, pshhh. Somebody needed to write a story to fill a slot. Sad.

Posted on May 23, 2012 at 1:23amThis is why I stopped watching the playoffs this year; Rupp’s hit was not a penalty. Refs once again trying to control the game.
Eh, don’t care.

Posted on May 22, 2012 at 6:07pmIt appears that hockey’s passion might be a little too much for Mr Seidl. Maybe the blaze could have him cover tennis or sailing, even baseball or football are likely too excitable for his dear heart. Hockey is the only left with true athleticism, passion, and toughness. Oh yeah it actually has 60 minutes of actual play unlike football with its 12 minutes of action spread over 3 hours.

Posted on May 22, 2012 at 5:32pmLooked like a good hockey play to me. If anything Brodeur should have gotten a penalty for bad acting.

Posted on May 22, 2012 at 1:24pmI am a Flyers fan, but they choked as usual in the second round to the Devs.
Great game last night, Tortorella was just trying to set an example and get his team fired up. He took some heat last week for “intimidating” the media with his “bad” attitude in the after game press conference…but I think that is what is needed from a NYC coach…he is expected to portray a kind of “baddass NYC we don’t take any crap” attitude…and I mean that in a good way…and I think he did a great job and I found it quite amusing.
Great series, hopefully go 7 games and let’s see who the heck can finally beat the Kings, if anyone can.

Posted on May 22, 2012 at 11:24amThis is why hockey is the only real man’s game left. LOVE IT!
BTW, the coaches nearly go at it in hockey fairly often. Pat Quinn, the former coach of the Mapleleafs, use to challenge the other coaches all the time.

Posted on May 22, 2012 at 6:12pmWith all the short series in the west the Kings should have the cup. If all my former Wild favs couldn’t do it for the Sharks, the Kings were my next choice.
