Two Teens Find $20K While Building a Fort, Then Turn It In!

What would you do if you found a backpack filled with more than $20,000 in cash? Two Utah teens turned it in. The Salt Lake Tribune reprots on the discovery:
“While working on the fort in a wooded area of the Avenues, one of the boys found a golf ball and let it roll down the hillside, according to a police report. When the boy went to find the ball, he spotted a backpack ‘shoved under some bushes,’ according to the report.
Seeing a significant amount of cash inside, the boys brought the backpack home and showed to a parent.
Fearing the cash may have been part of a crime, a parent of one of the teens called police. McGowan said the parent and boys did the right thing.”
The money was stuffed in plastic bags next to a pair of gloves in the backpack. Police were happy to see the teens “do the right thing” and the origin of the backpack is still unknown at this time.
A Salt Lake City police spokesman said of the discovery “It was a needle in a haystack.”
My only question is what were two teens doing building a fort?

Posted on September 1, 2011 at 11:12amClearly the boys need to be taken from their parents and put in foster care for being allowed to build *forts*, play *war games*, and for being so honest. Must be something wrong with their upbringing!!! :-)
No doubt they would have been taken away if this occurred in California, Massachusetts, or New York.
Perhaps the fort was to protect their lemonade stand? :-)

Posted on September 1, 2011 at 9:36amThe anti-racist comments in reply to a blogger make me proud to blog here. As far as the “fort”, they work great for paint ball, etc. As far as the boys, they did the right thing according to their knowledge, take it to their folks, call the police. I guess they weren’t thinking like a pro law enforcement agency. Often homeless people are found with large amonts of money-no one can figure that one out, if they have money why not have a home? Mental illness, I guess. Whatever, the right thing was done.

Posted on September 1, 2011 at 3:37amQuite amazing, isn’t it? They found something that they didn’t earn or inherit, so they knew it wasn’t theirs. I wouldn’t expect any of the low life communist/socialist punks of the Obama dogma to do the same.

Posted on September 1, 2011 at 3:26amWell, that explains it. They are UTAH boys. If they were Washington DC boys you would not be reading this or anyother story about money found…..it would have been spent on drugs faster than you can say“mine”.

Posted on September 1, 2011 at 12:47amThere was a young lady in Dallas that had found $2k and had turned it in as well. She was told at the time she turned it in that if no one claimed it in 30 days it would be returned to her. When she went to pick it up, the police told her that a new policy was in place and that the police would instead put the money to a better use for the police department. There was such an uproar by citizens that they reversed their decision and gave it back to the girl.

Posted on September 1, 2011 at 12:30amI’d turn it in….NOT !!!
No common sense. Not only did they turn the money in, they exposed themselves to retribution by the previous owner of the cash.
They should have kept it and kept their mouths shut.
Report Post »JRntEwing
Posted on September 1, 2011 at 1:36amWhat POSSIBLE retribution could the hiders of/lookers for that money take on those kids if they don’t have the money in their possession? And for what possible reason?
Report Post »On the other hand had the kids took it and kept it…and were seen and identified by the perps…they would have been very possibly been targets of retribution in an attempt to recover the money.
The smartest thing might have been to leave it lay and tip off the authorities of it’s existence so they could set up a decoy or a covert surveillance if the backpack. After all, it could have been a bomb, activated, and with a mercury switch on the detonator.

I can just hear the original owners now, “well, since the kids don‘t have the money anymore there’d be no rational reason to hunt them down just for depriving me of it”.
If the original owner of that cash was a crazed drug dealer or other criminal I guess that wouldn’t warrant any kind of follow-up reprisal for having their property “disrespected”.
Sometimes you have to think like an a-hole to understand an a-hole, and their reasoning capabilities. Take a hard look at the world as it really is…not as you’d like it to be.

Standing as a true Glenn Beck fan, I am proud that you are exercising your first amendment right on a site that has views that seem to be opposite of what you believe. I try to post on Gawker to expose their lack of reasoning and hatred towards our views, unfortunately they won’t let me speak my mind unless I spread hate. But I challenge you to backing up your statements. I defiantly won’t eliminate the possibility that your right, but prove to us that you are right. That’s whats sets people apart.

I don’t recall ANY mention of skin color in this article. Are you suggesting that no black, brown, etc people live in Utah?
What was that little thing MLK mentioned about being “judged by content of character” rather than color of skin? Hmmmm
Report Post »READRIGHTHERE
Posted on September 1, 2011 at 3:46amIn our past there were many “white” folk who held dearly to concepts of black inferiority in an effort to remain useless all the while still feeling like they had accomplished something important just by being born “white.” We look at these mentalities now and we shake our heads in disbelief that anyone, let alone a lot of people could ever survive into adulthood and be that incredibly stupid.
Thankfully, MLK and others came along and changed the debate, not only in public, but in the hearts and minds of many Americans. He challenged the way people viewed race relations, his example encouraged many to shed any vestiges of racist thinking still left in them. The content of our character was becoming more important than the color of our skin.
The definition of racism is simple. Dividing people into groups using arbitrary labels such black, white, red, or yellow, and then assigning stereotypical traits, true or false, positive or negative, to any individual who shares common physical traits with the rest of the “group.”
Peppa has decided that if we are not in favor of Obama’s policies ( as indicated by our participation on the Blaze message boards), then we must likely be white, and predominately racist (why else disagree with the Anointed One?) and therefore appreciate this feel good story about a couple of Utah teens who must naturally be white.
Peppa, you are part of the problem. Whatever progress we enjoy in race relations, people like you keep us from t
