(The Blaze/AP) — A Tibet activist group says two people have set themselves on fire in southwest China in the latest in a series of apparent self-immolation protests against Chinese rule.
The London-based Free Tibet said witnesses saw a man set himself on fire Friday near a monastery in Aba prefecture in Sichuan province. It says security forces put out the flames and took the man away. His condition is unknown.
Free Tibet says someone else died about the same time in a self-immolation nearby. It gave no other details.
The claims could not be confirmed. A woman at the prefecture government office Saturday said she knew nothing about the incidents.
China says Tibet has always been part of its territory, but many Tibetans say it was virtually independent for centuries.
Shocking video emerged in November of an alleged buddhist nun engulfing herself in flames on a city street in protest against Chinese rule. If true, Free Tibet says Friday’s self-immolation are the 13th and 14th such acts in protest to Chinese oppression since March of last year.
Chinese authorities routinely deny Tibetan claims of oppression, although they have confirmed some cases of self-immolations and accused supporters of the Dalai Lama of encouraging such acts. The Dalai Lama and representatives of the self-declared Tibetan government-in-exile in India say they oppose all violence.

Posted on January 8, 2012 at 7:25pmTo quote the article “China says Tibet has always been part of its territory, but many Tibetans say it was virtually independent for centuries.” Not according to the Wikipedia. Just Google Tibet History and hit Wikipedia and it shows an eons long independent Tibet. The Chinese called that land “Tufan” and not as part of China. Since outside of Sri Lanka, China are the only two ancient nations with an unbroken written history, China’s history treated and labeled the land we call Tibet as a separate entity by calling it Tufan is differentiates it from mainland Tibet.
Report Post »In addition the Tibetan language belongs to the family of Tibeto/ Burmese languages which are spoken from Tibet to Nepal to north east India and it is not Mandarin.
The Tibetans are not Hun Chinese, They do not consider Mandarin their mother tongue and Vajrayana Buddhism is unique to Tibet. In addition her history is separate from China till China invaded raped an annexed Tibet while the UN and the world stood in silence.

Every time i turn around, a Tibetan is lighting themself on fire…I don’t like physical pain…
I’m not setting myself on fire for no movement, no cause or no religion…
That‘s whay ’hell’ is for…and I’m not trying to rush that experience…

Posted on January 8, 2012 at 8:22amGood question. I am old enough to remember them doing the same thing during the Vietnam War. Didn’t understand it then, either. Sad to think that killing yourself will further a cause.

Posted on January 7, 2012 at 6:25pmMaybe by doing a mass immolation. Say maybe one of those unwashed Hippie Wanabes sets fire to one of their squalid “tent cities” during a drug soaked rampage after raping one of their women. And then everyone can attack the police and firemen when they come to help because they represent the 1%. And MSNBC can cover it and the White house could claim it was Bush’s fault and Chris Matthews could once again find his “tingle” and Olberman could rant that it was a plot by the right and Sharpton could blame “Whitey”. Yea, that would work……Just sayin’

Apart from Tibet, I can think of several other “disputed” areas namely Kashmir, Northern Ireland, and Okinawa. We only hear about Tibet because its cause is trendy. But there is one BIG trend about Tibet of which I want everyone to be CONSCIOUS: Will the Dalai Llama’s “Ghandi-style”, conflict resolution oriented PEACEFARE work on the Red Chinese? I think it might be significant if it proves out that the “Ghandi-method“ only works on that ”cancer of the world” white man but not on the noble, peaceful, misunderstood, COMMUNIST, Han Chinese.

Posted on January 7, 2012 at 5:34pmWhy does theBlaze use the word “allegedly” when referring to the self-immolation of these Tibetan protesters? Is the China-loving US State Dept mandating that? Is theBlaze worried about China’s State Dept.? Why is it “allegedly”? I am not trying to be clever here; I really want to know. Whose rights are we protecting by using “allegedly” when reporting these protests? Or is it “allegedly” because the possibility exists that the protesters were SET on fire instead of having immolated themselves?
