Two Top Bachmann Aides Step Down From ‘Day-to-Day’ Roles

A few changes in the Bachmann campaign will, no doubt, draw a good deal of scrutiny at this point in the campaign.

The New York Times:

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Ed Rollins, the veteran campaign operative who helped engineer an Iowa straw poll victory for Representative Michele Bachmann this summer, has stepped down from running the day-to-day operations of her presidential campaign, a spokeswoman for Mrs. Bachmann said Monday night.

A spokeswoman for Mrs. Bachmann’s campaign cited health reasons for the abrupt change in the role Mr. Rollins, 68, will play in the presidential campaign.

“Ed is moving away from the demanding day-to-day operations of the campaign and into a senior adviser role,” said the spokeswoman, Alice Stewart. “He is fantastic and will continue to be invaluable on the campaign.”

Politico:

“I wish I was 40 years old, but I’m not,” he told POLITICO. “I’m 68 years old, I had a stroke a year and a half ago. I’m worn out.”

The change is coming just as Bachmann is entering a new phase of the race, searching for the right way forward against the Rick Perry juggernaut, which has sucked away the oxygen since her Ames Straw Poll win.

Rollins insisted this represents a change of schedule but not his commitment to Bachmann.

“I want nothing but the best for her, she’s a great candidate, I’ll continue to be there for her,” he said.

However, Rollins is not the only one stepping down.  His deputy campaign manager, David Polyansky, is also exiting.

Washington Post:

Polyansky’s departure at the same time, of course, will raise questions about whether this, in fact, represents a strategic shakeup for a campaign that has taken a back in the Republican presidential race since Texas Gov. Rick Perry got into the race. Bachmann won the Ames Straw Poll three weeks ago but has struggled to build on that win.

Agree to an extent. But Bachmann would be much worse. Besides she is not really running. She is following the Palin pseudo celebrity business model. She will continue to say ridiculous stuff to get attention, loose the nomination, write some books, make speeches and make money off her devote followers while doing basically nothing.

I think the ideal situation would be to leave it unsettled until convention time, when an Abraham Lincoln could emerge from a field of a half dozen or more candidates as everyone’s No. 2 choice–unfortunately the media has corrupted the primary/caucus season to winnow out the field in favor of grooming its own finalists, and it’s getting to the point to where real races are being sabotaged before the voting for delegates gets underway!

In case the original subject of this article has been forgotten, this from Hught Hewitt:

“Michele Bachmann has won a lot of friends over the years because of her ideas, energy and good humor as well as her willingness to take battles to the left. Her presidential campaign took off after a great New Hampshire debate added to her pre-existing base of friendly supporters built over years of appearances on talk radio and on cable television.

Then a new team of handlers arrived led by Ed Rollins and Bachmann disappeared from the airwaves and adopted an insider approach to everything. Now the whacky left is savaging her and the Beltway-Manhattan media is sinking their teeth into her, and she’s still on the bench.

It isn’t too late for Michele to be Michele again, but she and her old staff have got to ask themselves whether the new team has done them much good at all. Bachmann needs to be back out in the media and leading from the front.”

Sorry, but running a campaign that discards your base, is, well…stupid.

It doesn’t matter how many candidates are put up by the GOP as long as the voters that vote are not voting for candidates that are for true conservative policies. If you say you are conservative and won’t vote for a candidate that wants to make government smaller, cut spending, including Welfare, Medicaid, Medicare and Changing the way Social Security works, then you will vote for a candidate that claims to be a conservative even if their actions prove that they are not, then you are not really a conservative. Every election cycle the Democrats elevate issues that divide conservatives into small groups and make us argue amongst ourselves. It works every time. They use abortion, the second amendment, social security, welfare, medicaid, medicare against us. They make us out to be uncaring for people that need government assistance when they know that we are not against helping people. We are against people that abuse the system and cause the people that work to have to support them while they abuse the system. Until we stand together and stop the Democrats and the media from portraying us as racist haters that want to see people starving in the streets we will never be able to elect a true conservative, president or congress. The Democrats have succeeded over the last 40 to 50 years in taking over what our children learn in school and in college and have made them believe that the federal government should be the end all be all in their lives. Government dole = Dim Voters

until we make these government dole zombies wake up and realize what the Dims have done to them in making them dependent on big government they will continue to vote for DIms because Dims give them everything they want at our expense. It‘s no skin off a Dim’s back to take your money and give it to their constituents that have their hands out every day. Those people don’t know that they are slaves to their politicians and they are making slaves of us, the people that pay for their welfare. So as long as these people can as Ben Franklin said “vote themselves money” the republic will continue to deteriorate because they can out vote the people that are contributors to the system. The ONLY chance we all have is to wake up the welfare zombies.

In 1992, Republicans got a good look at an obscure governor from Arkansas and decided that even though they didn’t want George Bush Sr. – champion of a new world order – no way did they want another Roosevelt liberal in the White House. Their option became “hold your nose and vote” because the elitist power brokers behind the scenes made certain Bush Sr. would be their standard bearer in that election. There was no choice for those of us seeking a pro-Constitution, “America first” president….For almost 100 years, beginning when Wilson was put into the White House, America has been held hostage by outside interests who control our political and monetary systems. How many more elections will Americans go to the polls to vote against the other candidate while holding their noses? How much longer will this insanity continue? While the Left might be excited and misread this as Bachmann in trouble, she may have taken good advice and decided to push Rollins aside. We‘ll have to wait and see who’s right. She needs to do something though, because while her ideas are excellent, her campaign is a mess. She is always on the defensive and needs to be able to deal with the 24/7/365 attacks by the media better.

The economy is only a symptom of the disease that’s eating this country alive. We must get the present regime stopped even if it only means keeping the disease from spreading further while we work on the cure.

gaffe after gaffe after gaffe. She says something, then has to explain that that wasn’t what she meant. Either she is a an idiot, or she needs a spine. I supported her to start off with, it was hers to lose for me. And she did just that. Maybe its her advisors, I don’t know. But the damage is done.

Ron Paul is far too isolationist for my tastes. Sarah is too polarizing, and is better off working as a fund raiser and Tea Party whip *******. Romney….yeah, no ty. Huntsman…what a joke….Christie? Ummmm isnt he up for cap and trade and freedom to choose death for unborn babies? Thanks, I’ll pass. He comes off as just plain arrogant to me on top of that. Cain I like, but has no GOVERNMENT executive experience.

For me that leaves Perry, who, as the governor of my state, hasn’t dissappointed me at all. The things he has done that I was upset about, I have come to understand his reasoning for trying. You wont hear the reasons from the media, tho. Just the issues that have at times raised some Texas hackels…

    I’m liking the looks of a Perry/Cain 2012 ticket at this point….but we’re still a long way off yet….

@ StaggerLee32….you named yourself after a murdering street thug pimp. I’m thinking you really have no room to call anyone an idiot.

Perry the Dream Act guy? The Guy who said the following: “The message is simple,” Perry concluded, “educacion es el futuro, y si se puede.” Education is the future, and (echoing Cesar Chavez’s slogan) yes we can.” Didn’t Obama use that slogan too? The Same Rick Perry who said that the Border Fence is Ridiculous? The Same Rick Perry who said people should be able to go freely between the United States and Mexico? Herman Cain, the one who said that Gun Laws are a States Rights Issue? The same Herman Cain who said that the Federal Reserve is Constitutional because Congress said so? Then you have Ron Paul the Leftists darling. The one who never gets attacked. He’s anti-Israel, pro-Islam, anti-America, and where again is Pork Projects Constitutional?

Bachmann or Santorum is our only choices if you want to end this “Serfdom” (progressive) movement.

Well I have said it from day one and this is another notch in the belt. She is done, can not be elected, and is a total flake and now her managers are fleeing just like Newts did. Now if people would wake up on Perry and Romney we as Americans might get out of this mess. Perry and Romney are RINOS. Now who to elect is just the question, and do not start screaming Ron Paul either, he is out with Ross Perot right now hanging out.

If true, the reactions to this story are a little confusing to me. “Ed is moving away from the demanding day-to-day operations of the campaign and into a senior adviser role.” That doesn’t exactly sound like jumping ship. I like Bachmann a lot, and would love to see her stay in the Congress to keep fighting the good fight, but she’s not the right candidate to serve in the Executive Office. She has no Executive Experience and has really become the “Jerry Lewis” of this campaign, thanks both to Media Spin and her own gaffes. (Don’t get mad at me: I’m just sharing my opinion.) Perry has a lot going for him, and a lot going against him, but he’s a lot better than Mitt Romney could ever be, and a lot more likely to win than Ron Paul. The fact remains that we CONSERVATIVES (to Hell with the Republican Party) need to focus on gaining control of the Congress & Senate if we are to reverse the destructive course that this Administration has taken us on.

Perry drew support because Texas has 47% of jobs created in the US and people are looking for someone who has the experience of a governor with a successful record of creating an atmosphere that attracts employers. . He has brought businesses from states like California who closed up shop there and created jobs in Texas. . He is far from perfect but a job creator is a job creator is a job creator.

Yes he has created jobs, but he is still a Rino. He want to keep our boarders open and give amnesty and that makes him a liberal. Both Perry and Romney are not right for this country.

AMEN! The more The People see her, the more unsettling some – to me, unidentifiable – elusive quality became subtly more piquant – and it was not a flavor I found to my liking.

I know I didn’t like her jabs at Sarah, when Sarah so graciously campaigned for her, fund-raised for her, AND DONATED TO HER CAMPAIGN for the MAX LIMIT from SarahPac!
Just so totally unnecessary. And very ungraciously not lady-like! For a Tea Party leader, it was decidedly RINO-ELITIST in attitude. She is a fabulous Congressional Leader, I wish her the BEST. But it seems time for her to graciously exit before it becomes clumsy.

That’s “cue”, Model, not “queue”. Queue is mostly used in England and means “line of people” as in “get in the queue for tickets.”

Regardless, I agree the rats are jumping ship. Bachmann has no chance of winning, nor do any of the other nominees. If God is a Republican he‘ll get Chistie to run because the other Republicans don’t have a chance of winning the general election.

I don’t get how Rick Perry has drawn support from Bachmann — she is Tea Party, Perry is RINO (or “near RINO” if there is such a thing). Seems like Perry would only draw from Romney. What am I missing?
