A conservative radio talk radio show host in Houston hit back at local media Tuesday over allegations that he was involved in a hit-and-run accident outside a gay night club.

Michael Berry, a former Houston city councilman, said during his KTRH show he has been the victim of a smear campaign in a “hit piece” based on “rumors” and “unnamed sources.” He went after local media outlets that he said have breathlessly reported that the alleged incident took place outside a gay bar.

“Gay bar, gay bar, gay bar, gay bar. So many times in the story, I lost count,” he said. “Saying gay bar and conservative talk host in one sentence repeatedly, oh that’s too awesome for a news station to pass up.”

Berry, who said he was addressing the matter against the advice of his attorney, did not go into great detail about the Jan. 31 incident because of potential legal proceedings. According to the Houston Chronicle, a police department crash report said a car registered to Berry is suspected of backing into another vehicle outside TC’s Showbar. He has not been charged in the incident.

Local media outlets have aired surveillance video purporting to show Berry inside the club before the accident took place. Berry said the footage only shows that he ordered a beer and used the restroom, not that he committed any crime.

He said he didn‘t go to TC’s because it was a gay bar, but went for a beer and there were “gay people inside.”

“There was cold beer waiting inside,” Berry said. “Is that a crime? The fact that I’m not afraid of the fact that some of the people inside may be gay? Makes it a bad thing? Would it be better if I was at a strip club? Or a Hooters?”

He said he’s never once bashed gay people on his show, despite the prevailing thought that “conservatives hate gays — or so we’re told. Conservatives are all gay-bashers apparently.”

“Really? I hate gay people? You jackass! You never listen to my show! Get your facts straight, you stupid fools,” Berry said. “I don’t have to bash gays to prove that I’m not one.”

Berry charged that local media outlets, particularly Houston’s KPRC, are on a crusade against him to boost their ratings during sweeps week. He said he’s cooperated with the police “100 percent” and denied he was engaging in any type of cover-up.

“Was it a cover up?” Berry asked. “No, it was a smear campaign. Channel 2, I’ve got my sights on you….You can smear my name without me but I’m not going down without a fight.”

    Berry is a great example of a conservative host that wants all people to succeed, but his way of a traditional work ethic is blasted by those that want to live in a state of excuses. If Berry had his way, all citizens would work hard each day, love their children, be good fathers and contribute positively to our society. Those values now make him a shock jock. Unbelievable. The people that truly are color blind are the first to be considered intolerant. Tough love is love.

    He is a powerful voice in the Houston area, and so there are many that are waiting for an incident like this to smear him on. Isn‘t it ironic that the liberals are the one’s making the “gay bar” an issue? Many liberals have no morale foundation. They use who is useful at the moment.

    I’m curious if Houston area “gays” are going to be outraged that media outlets are degrading them by making the prefered orientation of their club an issue?

    Why doesn’t this conservative shock-jock just admit that he is gay and get it over with? Is it because the majority of neocons hate gays and think that gays are destroying the whole fabric of society? Yeah, this guy just went to this bar for a beer not knowing it was a gay bar. Yeah, right, and I have some beautiful oceanfront property for sale in Ohio.

      Berry was named “Councilman of the Year” by the Houston Police Officers Union.

    Michael Berry is quick, hard-hitting and conservative to the bone. He’s a former city councilman and mayoral candidate (unfortunately, Houston is a lib paradise and currently has a liberal lesbian mayor.) He’s an attorney and real estate investor, but his radio programs have become hotter than a Texas tamale. He was initially local only, but now his show is heard in Portland,, Baton Rouge, San Antonio and Nashville, with more stations coming. He says the things that honest Americans think, but are too timid to say–it‘s a wonder he hasn’t been assassinated by now!! But this contretemps over a parking lot fender crunch is, in a sense, an attempted assassination. Berry is conservative. In the minds of mindless liberals and “haters,” that equals homophobe and racist. I have listened to Berry since he went on air years ago and never heard any homophobic statements. And as for being racist? His son, of who he speaks with enormous pride, was adopted from somewhere in Africa. Berry and his wife are in process of another adoption of a 5-year-old boy from Ethiopia. Would a racist have two African children? And, Berry’s wife is a physician from India. I‘d say that’s a real multicultural family. Enough diversity for ya, Lefties? The bottom line is: this witch hunt is a further attempt by the left (vis Andrew Napolitano and Pat Buchanan’s cases) to silence powerful conservative voices and suppress free speech in America.

      Nothing new here, because I lived in Houston for years, and got to see first hand how it has been totally taken over by the uber-liberal left, and that includes their local media mouthpieces. After all, what should you expect, from the city that gave us all Sheila Jackson Lee, who for those of you out there that don’t know, got her start in politics, in the city council.

Then The communist media loved calling him a Hypocrite.The Thing is,I had listened to Rush for many years,On up until his “Family Guy” Appearance(Thus causing my Boycott). In all those years I never heard him Address drug abuse or the Drug war. Maybe the guy was at a Gay Bar.I Would not know. Maybe they guy is like me?       You can listen to Michael on iheart radio (ipad/iphone app). He is a firebrand and I really enjoy his hard-hitting radio program. We could all use a little more of his honest approach to national issues. I am sure he is a target because he is a conservative host. How many traffic accidents receive this much attention?

      It’s hardly news anymore when a Christian, family values Republican gets a little gay action in a bathroom. I’m not saying this guy was doing gay things in a bathroom. Christian family values Republicans go into gay bars all the time without knowing the place is a gay bar. How could you tell if you walked into a gay bar? Public officials, especially Republicans walk into gay bars or airport bathrooms, take a wide stance and tap their feet without having any idea that they are inviting advances.

      And of course he didn’t back into that car. He should sue for slander, even if his car is dented.

      From Google street view, the neighborhood looks like a sort of run down commercial area, and while the the place in question doesn’t appear to have anything flamboyantly advertising itself, it, nevertheless, looks like the kind of place you wouldn’t just causally go to for a beer (no neon ads, few and/or darkened windows). And the bar’s website leaves little doubt about the clientele it serves.

      That said, so what.

      His going to the bar does not prove anything about his lifestyle (other than the fact that he seems to enjoy a cold beer), and it does imply, as he states, that he is not a homophobe.

      Everyone and their mother knows that montrose is a flamingly gay neighborhood. We’re talking thermonuclear. It was actually a drag bar, I guess they dont all like to play dress up. With that said I have been listening to Mike here in Houston for about two years and he says things live on the air that most people would only say among their closest friends. He has pissed off the local left wing media and that is why they jumped all over this.

      From my extensive research (of Police Academy movies) you don’t know until you order your beer, then you realize their are no women in the bar. Then some big hairy muscle bound dude grabs your hand and says, “let’s dance.”

      There was a drag bar somewhere near Daytona Beach that had a primarily straight clientele. The tourists liked to see the drag queens lip sync Cher and Madonna and such.

      It was a hot day outside. It turned out to be a Gay bar. We drank our beers and left.

      Piper60.—There is no evidence there was a “fender Bender”. It was a news station that reported that a police report said there was. A report given second can always be changed so as to let the tv station say “ we were mistaken” or misunderstood. It’s all a smoke screen to Smear the radio host.

      Just because a man is married to a woman does not mean that he can’t be gay. Happens all the time especially when some gay guy is too afraid to come out of the closet and especially if his beliefs and values are in the public arena and his income depends on that public persona, he (or she…) will pretend to be hetero just to have a job and earn money$$$. For example, look at Marcus Bachmann. He is definitely gay but he is married to Michelle Bachmann and they keep up the facade in order to continue raking in the millions of dollars that US politics allows them to scheme from.

Channel 2 in Houston just does not understand that Michael Berry is an icon here and his public will support him. Noone loves NBC…….we all love our Michael Berry.
