TX Woman Finds Razor Blade in Her Walmart Ice Cream

Stephanie Granger of Kilgore, TX was looking forward to curling up in front of a movie on Saturday and eating a small carton of Walmart ice cream. But her serene night was interrupted when she bit down on a broken razor blade that had found its way into the bottom of her Peanut Butter Stars treat. And while she’s not threatening a lawsuit (and is surprisingly understanding) the response she got from the retail giant when she called to report the incident is not what she expected:
From KLTV:
Stephanie says she’s heard of people finding things in their food, but never thought it could happen to her. Still, she says it‘s no one’s fault.
“I think it was just one of those random accidents that happen. When you make that much of a product, and that many products, you’re bound to have a machine break,” Stephanie stated.
Stephanie called Wal-Mart on Monday to tell them what she found. After the call, she told us that the response wasn’t what she was hoping to hear, “I don’t think ‘I’m sorry, I hope your day gets better,’ is an appropriate response to, “I found a razor blade in my ice cream.’”
Stephanie tells KLTV that more than anything, she wants Wal-Mart to find out how this happened, and make sure it doesn’t happen again, because it could have been a much younger person biting into the ice cream.
“As an adult, I know that that’s a danger. But, a child’s not going to understand that. They’re just going to see it as a toy in their ice cream, like they get toys in their Happy Meals.”
When contacted by the news station, Walmart said it is taking the incident “very seriously” and has launched an investigation.

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 2:09pmLooks like a blade from a utility knife. I have one with just such a blade, it‘s designed so you can break off the end when it starts to get dull and then you have what’s almost like a new blade. Someone made a boo boo working on a machine….. at least that’s my guess. Glad she found it and wasn’t hurt….. a very good reason to eat slowly and not wolf down your food.

No need to wait for the facts and “investigation”. The county sheriff needs to get on the local news TONIGHT and start calling for more civility from the Democratic Party.

It’s highly unlikely that Wal-Mart is using the cheap plastic throw away knifes anywhere in its operation.

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 1:49pmPaulamadden has the right idea! Walmart didn’t make the ice cream they just sold it, the responsibility rest on the manufacturer! I do agree though that Walmart should have handled the situation better! To me “I’m sorry, I hope your day get better.” just doesn’t cut it (no pun intended)!

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 1:48pmI many years ago opened a can of peas from a super market who will be nameless and at the bottom of the can were RAT DOPPINGS.I took the can to the store showed the manager they were very polite apologized asked if I wanted another can or preferred fresh frozen I did take the fresh forzen and thank them and went home I still use some canned veggies I just take a better look at them no I didn’t sue them or call a newspaper or any of that stuff happens rats due go where a food source is so it was where their cannery was.I don’t shop there anymore not because of that I shop where I get the most for my money like Wal-Mart or Dollar Tree,Save-A-Lot,Big Lots they are all very close to me and that saves money on gas to pay bills or stock up on food.Have to set your priorities. Many, many years ago we were at a pizza restaurant won‘t name it and they forgot we said we were eating in and had boxed up our pizza and when we asked about our order they realized the mistake and brought the pizza to our table as we were eating something jab me in my gum and when I pulled it out it was a staple that apparently fell in when they ripped the box open to bring us our pizza when we looked closer there were staples all over it so we called them over showed them and they gave us a whole new pizza no charge and apologized and that was good enough for us but we did give them advice maybe they shouldn’t use staples to hold the lids down on their boxes for take out or delivery they would be begging for a law suit and they gave us another pizza and thanked us for the common sense advice.

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 2:47pmGet updated…the vast majority of products we buy in the U.S. are made in China.Pick a store…any store, and read the labels.Whether it be top name tools, eating utensils, light switches, home appliances, duct tape, ice scrapers, shoes, hair brushes, telivisions, cell phones, ball caps…the list goes on and on and on. The true culprits in all this are our beloved politicians, left and right, who gave us NAFTA, GATT, the WTO, and a myriad of other wonderful things they did to us, eh um, for us.

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 1:52pmI guess that they got confused and when they said cutting prices, someone must have thought that they said cutting customers. That could make it a very common misunderstanding. I wouldn’t worry too much about it though unless they start selling Solyent Green.

True, the remainder of the blade is probably still in the machinery or the shop floor; the fact of this is it could have been much worse, the blade could have shattered to a multitude of small peices that she would have swallowed and been lacerated inside her throat, stomach and intestines.

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 2:06pmA lot of food products pass metal detectors to make sure no bits of metal, machinery, etc. fall into the packaging. I don’t know how much this precaution would add to the cost of the product, but it might be worth it. It depends if this is a one-in-a-thousand or one-in-ten-million occurrence.

Agreed, this may be just the proverbial one in a million mess up; at least the store is going to check into it further and hopefully if added safeguards are needed, it will implement them.

Seriously ? How exactly did the broken blade land in a sealed ice cream container ? If it were from cutting open the box, don’t you think there would be a noticeable hole in the ice cream container ? Have you ever used a box cutter ? Come on now, lets all try and use our brains instead of our rear end shall we ?
