U.N. Preview: Is Obama Losing His ‘Rock Star Status’?

“What a difference a year makes.”

That’s how CBS News starts a preview of this year’s U.N. General Assembly meetings, which begin this week. And while CBS points out that last year the president was treated with “rock star status,” this year presents many more challenges: high unemployment at home, tense relations with the Muslim world, and domestic poverty at an all-time high.

Ironically, then, eradicating poverty is one of the four main goals the president will present during the meetings. Others include improving the U.N.’s peacekeeping and security, promoting human rights, and tackling environmental challenges.

But as National Review points out, those goals and the speeches that will present them may be empty. “Twenty months into the tenure of our most multilateral president, what has [Obama] accomplished at the U.N.?” writer John Bolton asks. “The short answer: Not much.” Bolton is a former U.S. representative to the U.N.

For example, last year the president made nuclear non-proliferation a priority. But a year later, Iran and North Korea are closer to, not further from, nuclear weaponry. And just as the U.S. has secured a spot on the Human Rights Council, so too has Libya, while Cuba has obtained the vice chairmanship and Iran has been rewarded with a seat on the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women.

“Given this dismal record, what can we expect from Obama’s upcoming U.N. speech, and what lies ahead in the remainder of his presidency?” Bolton asks. Much of the same, he says — mostly talk with little accomplished. “Perhaps the most surprising conclusion about Obama’s U.N. record is how anemic it is.”

Obama is set to make two speeches this week: one during the U.N.’s anti-poverty Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) meeting on Wednesday, and another during the General Assembly debate on Thursday.

So there we go. Almost 2 years in and the best we can say is… Well at least Jimmy Carter has a challenge to the worst Presidency in the last 100 years.

Obama is like the snake oil salesman from Hell.

So lets be perfectly clear….. Like Carter, Obama has to go in 4.

Congress has to go Nov 2nd!

Thanks to you & all of staff & guests I believe this country will be great again for my children & grandchildren.
Please keep an open mind about Mitt Romney. I wanted him to be candidate last election & I feel he is the person to lead this country to GREATNESS. He is the one we need now!

If there‘s one thing that I’ve learned since President Obama’s election (well I knew it before the election but it has since been confirmed) is that you ALWAYS believe the EXACT opposite of what he says. The same goes for almost all of the Dems especially for Pelosi and Reid.

Everyone used to talk about how awkward George Bush was when giving a speech, or doing a press conference. And then they talked about how smooth our new president was as he spoke, head moving from side to side, looking at the ‘audience’ and making eye contact… but wait! He wasn’t looking at the people! He was reading from those slick teleprompters! Watch him speak without them sometime. He is almost as hesitant and awkward as George Bush. At least Bush didn’t pretend. America is waking up… our national debt remains a growing entity, unemployment has not come down as planned, and it’s all about to get much, much worse with new taxes, the possible end of the Bush tax cuts, and oh, man, we’re in for it. And sadly, this president the counsel this president surrounds himself are self-proclaimed socialist and communist sympathizers; some have publicly subscribed to those ideologies and for some reason, and they still hold their czar posts! .

You need a spelling/grammar lesson. Your posts are full of mis-spellings: When you type “your” that is possessive. You should have typed you’re. And then when you typed “there” you should have typed they’re. Please educate yourself and then come back and comment because thus far, your (possessive, see?) comments lack credibility.

Remember, the UN is about equality of results. Not quality. So everything makes sense. Why expect exceptionalism when everything can be equally bad. Why just have women mistreated in one country when they can mistreated around the world? You cannot have a poor class when everyone is poor. Why have freedom in one country when everyone could be ruled by dictatorships?

The UN makes me sick sometimes.
